His command-grab is only fast if you kara it. Did’nt know about it being hyper-cancleable(?) but then again I haven’t touched UMBC3 in weeks due to my sparring buddy going AWOL =[

Kara with what? Doesn’t the whole action kara’ing something ADD frames to the start up, essentially making it slower?

But that’s not really my point, his command grab is pretty bad on the whole. He has better mobility, screen control, and mixup than Iron Man, but even that isn’t why he’s better. The reason Sentinel is worlds better than IM is because he can generate respect. TO be a good character in any game you have to give people a reason to respect your tools, otherwise they’ll just smash buttons and kill you. Sentinel has alot of ways to force respect, the most obvious of which is his armored normals. Iron Man can space you out a bit, but really has no way to either gain enough respect to use his limited mixup, nor does he have the tools to really force someone into being careless ala Trish or Hawkeye.

Sentinel is one of those characters where if you are watching him on a stream or youtube video and see someone get hit with a spoon or cr.m or grab you go “LOL I would have so blocked that” but when you actually face a competent one (especially if backed by decent assists) you are going to get bopped by those things as well.

I think he is pretty underrated. In no way do I think he is amazing or even really good for that matter… but he has shit you need to respect or it is going to hurt bad (for almost no execution too). Especially his aerial normals, everyone knows about spoon, but air M is incredibly useful (especially for trying to push someone to the corner which is his goal) and I think air H can be somewhat deceptive as well.

Also not enough Sentinels use his standing M. I have hit so many Dantes out of their sj air dash H with that and people who are just coming down from the air in general.

And yeah it’s hyper cancel able. It’s an nice OS, and sometimes you’ll catch unaware opponents sleeping and hit them. Sentinel usually has meter anyways.

Also, to add to what Ve said, Sentinel adds more utility to a team. Sure, Unibeam is just as good as an assist as Drones, but Sentinel adds a extremely safe DHC, THC tricks, and a really damaging DHC that’s relatively compatible with everything.

Speaking of Sentinel.

I used to have a pretty low opinion of him, but watching how players like Rayray and F. Champ can really control space with him has made me rethink the robot.

Frankly I find the way they fly around the screen and zone with those j.Ms to be rather erotic.

How does this make it faster? If the command grab has (I’m just pulling numbers out of the air here) 5f of start up and you kara a normal into it, even if you do it as fast as possible you’re still adding 1f to the startup of the move. :confused:

Sentinel is a very solid character (remember what solid means in this game), with one of the best and most versatile assists in the game. So there’s some very good reasons to pick him.

if you Kara his command grabs with a mouth lazer all of them are fast really, but telegraphed so you have to option select them with HSF

Also, j.M is so important in Sentinel mirror matches or other take to the sky characters. He’ll boot your ass back to the ground.

Simply for the sake of saying, in my personal opinion I think I like Bonuspokus’ tier list out of all of them. I feel other tier lists are good but am quite fond of Bonus’ essay of explanations and while I original thought we shouldn’t really have a second tier list devoted to assist after going through his wording of the matter I feel more inclined to say that we should have one. I believe most the other tier lists are great but the breakdown of “Overall self capability” is very important, even though this is a team game.

No doubt, I get that. Valid point by the both of you. However, i was just saying that big problem with using Vanilla early tiers/opinions/dynamics is because of it being the time where the majority still had the “spirit” of MVC2 with in them.

Ve can you reference me to any good Jill gameplay videos? I have been playing her for awhile and I have been getting the impression she is overrated. Granted my Jill isnt good at all, but I was playing some matchups like Magneto, Dorm, Dante, and Trish (especially this one)… and I was like what the hell do I do? They all feel hopeless lol.

It is probably just me playing her wrong, I dont think I use her teleport nearly enough.

back when i played sent that what i used to do for defense it helps when you trying to not get hit by people with good normals but can’t hit u in the air.

I don’t have any links off the top of my head, and Jill gameplay is tough to come by as she’s DLC, non-functional online, and unpopular… :frowning:

But check Pulsr’s youtube and streams with Clockwork, he’s been repping Jill some recently and he’s not bad at all with her.

What am I missing here? Unless I’m missing some special property of spit, or vastly misunderstand the mechanics of the game, kara’ing specials makes start up slower. 1f of spit + 2f of command grab = 3f, and that’s assuming you kara on the first frame. Is there some special property that makes you negate frames of startup?

XD. I gave you my little bit of insight already. The only things I didn’t say that I think of now is:

You super jumped a lot. I think it might have been more advantageous to stay grounded behind your drones. When you were playing against an opposing Sentinel though, I can see how this was hard to do. Maybe Jill would fair better with a beam assist, especially in those situations.

You have to make every combo count with Jill because her incoming mix ups are pretty damn strong. She’s really momentum based like Wolverine. Though, we were playing online, and it’s impossible to make those Jill combos count lol.
