UMVC3 SRK Tier List/Theory Discussion. (NEW THREAD NOW AVAILABLE)

This mentality is exactly why the structure of these threads is so counterintuitive. People assume that there are only a few people who are worth paying attention to at all. How exactly do we know that these people have put in the lab time with every character in the game? Their opinions aren’t necessarily valid on absolutely everyone. The idea of “You don’t have a combo video so your opinion doesn’t matter” is completely counterproductive and is part of the reason why these threads never go anywhere.

Exactly! Zoning is typically offensive in nature, while keep away is typically defensive in nature, or offends from a distance.

I see my many posts regarding Vergil have been forgotten. :coffee:

The only place you will find sanctuary on all your PW nonsense is Gfaqs. The topic isn’t being derailed because of Wright being told to be thee low tier character of UMVC3. Only you PW fans think he is above what he actually is.

I will be open to which characters I am huge fans of. Magneto, Nova, Spidey, She Hulk, X-23, Arthur, Haggar, Zero, Viper(can’t play her, wish I could). I barely even mention those is the funny thing.

And chars I am interested in playing there games: Ammy and Joe.

You missed the point dude…you totally missed the point.

I was just listing examples. You don’t have to put up media, I just need to see some kind of post that implies you’ve put serious work into something and yielded results. All I’ve seen so far is fandom.

Sorry! I can’t name everyone. You are certainly a Vergil scientist who have changed my mind on Vergil slightly over time. We’ve had some heated debates over Vergil if I recall, but nothing that became disrespectful.

I’m still a Vergil hater though

Keep persisting then with your arguments if they just become derailed. It will be much more healthy than being another gopher poster who comes in and just goes lol at this thread from time to time.

But that’s EXACTLY what most of these threads turn into. Even when people are willing to listen to arguments, if anyone who is “popular” disagrees, that’s it, GGs arguments.

I hate all trenchcoats… They can burn well except for Jubilee and Fantomex.

But I respect there global saturations, there stupid hitboxes on invulnearable moves, and amalgam moves of everything except good recovery.

Why don’t you just give us your argument already instead of whining about how people won’t listen.

He does that all the time because outside of gamefaqs, PW is listed as the lowest tier. The majority of the people at gamefaqs hate it when negatives on PW gets posted.

You can gain respect by being a well equipped poster.

I don’t feel like I’ve become popular. I mean I just got to 1000 post, I haven’t been on this thread long, but I feel like I’ve gained some respect from this thread. Maybe not a lot, but Nissan and DJ were convinced enough to include me in the tier list discussion. It’s a good thing to have leaders in discussion. Over the internet it becomes harder to define because of anonymity, but think about it. If you were in a room with Jwong, MarlinPie, 4 guys you’ve never seen, and yourself who would probably lead the discussion? Exactly. Not to say that I’m, or these other guys, are as qualified as those individuals, but we’re the best we have right now. We can all work together to discuss civilly!

Yeah he made some pretty fucking obvious points about the character. When you give a character a dive kick command that hits overhead, it’s not rocket science that if you tigerknee it, you get interesting results. Same deal with his plink dashing. He has a super slow wave dash. It’s not a surprise that his plink dash is more effective, infact plink dashing is better than wavedashing for most characters. It’s just everyone in this community, including me, is just so lazy that we don’t know shit about like 60% of the cast. The stuff he preached about was like day 1 shuma gorath stuff, including the combos he claimed were the epitome of a new revelation of shuma gorath technology. You must remember the wrong mysticray because I just remember him being flamed for making posts that exaggerated the strengths of the character and when peeps pointed that out, he was simply completely oblivious to the replies. That being said, I do believe in the potential of shuma as I’ve played him since day 1 consistently, but he has some flat out weaknesses that are just impossible to ignore. With the proper team though, anyone can be a force. Shuma has a bunch of cool shit, but it simply boils down to being watered down stuff from other mechanics. Exs:
*1 frame command grab… why is it “watered down?” It has a RIDICULOUS amount of recovery and is essentially worthless midscreen.
*Chaos dimension… why is it “watered down?” It deals 100k (?) less damage than dirt nap. He doesn’t turn invisible… which although pointless at first is a mindfuck for the opponent. He also cannot combo out of it which means the potential for incoming characters isn’t a TOD setup.

Shuma has a lot of cool tricks though that will mindfuck opponents who are not familiar with him, which is what he feeds off in wins due to the limited amount of shuma players, equating to no matchup experience.

Or better yet perfom with the character and make people have to respect your opinion through your play with said character.

so tell me what I"m missing;

as of now, PW’s positives are a good instant overhead and that Turnabout is really really good if you get there.

his negatives are bad damage and zoning out of turnabout and 0 mixups aside from the above mentioned overhead.

Is that about right? Because that doesn’t add up to good :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll just copy and paste my (ignored) arguments from ages; some from a month ago and others from just after release, so some of the information is outdated, but these are a few arguments that I made in favor of him ages ago. Again, ignore some of the outdated information.

Honestly, I just feel like no one is playing him right. Half of the people I see discussing him don’t think he’s difficult enough: they think it’s just throw out Maya shield -> gather evidence -> court -> land objection, and when that doesn’t work, they just write him off. The other half treat him like a complex math problem that takes way too much work to ever be worth it. PW is a fairly difficult character, but he’s not horrible and isn’t nearly as hard as people make him out to be. A few bullet points on him:

    1. He’s not nearly as worthless in Investigation Mode as people make him out to be. He’s not great in it, but he has more tools than just “Gather evidence and get out of IM ASAP lulz”. Maya M or H are both amazing as projectiles, and his overall damage output isn’t atrocious in it.*
    1. No one is flexible enough with him. Most of the time hen I see him discussed, people act like Wright has to follow a set gameplan. He doesn’t. When I play Wright, I’m constantly shifting my strategy as the match progresses.*
    1. Gathering evidence isn’t that hard. Yes, Wright needs assists, but people act like it’s a dealbreaker that he has to gather evidence. In reality, getting 4-5 pieces isn’t hard at all, since he can get 2 off of airthrows, 2 after knockdowns, etc. I usually summon Maya’s shield and wait to get a punish opportunity, then take it and gather after knocking them down. Gathering from Maya’s shield isn’t horrible, but there are a lot of moves that can shut it down. The only problem with evidence is when the luck factor kicks in and you have to gather 6+, then it becomes a bit much. But really, most of the cast has a solid assist for Wright, so it’s not hard to build a team around him.*
    1. Randomly fishing for Objection is never a good idea. I’ve ever seen pros do this. Wright can combo into it solo (with a simple LMHH f.H, or simply going into it immediately after a launch), can TAC into it, or can get it if you DHC into him with the Maya super. Oh, or he could just punish assists if possible. In any case, fishing for it is stupid and is way too common.*
    1. Abuse that assist. You have to either be heavily outmatched, or are just horrible, if you have that assist and still manage to lose. TM Press the Witness is very very easily the best assist in the game and basically lets you derp around as much as you want and cover yourself for free with no risk of anything getting punished.*
    1. TM Wright is a zoner. I have no idea why people feel the need to run in blindly when they get to TM with him. Cell Phone, Knife, and Photo (in that order) are absolutely amazing. Level 3 XF TM Wright (which is where he should be after getting to TM) can projectile lockdown a good chunk of the cast and can fire off a level 3 on literally any attempt to punish him (which gives him time to gather more evidence after a kill). If they come to you? Start abusing those fingers and use his easy touch of deaths to wipe anyone out.*
  • Do I expect this to change anyone’s mind? No. But I don’t think he’s bottom by any means, he just needs to be played differently than most people seem to be assuming with him. Even the limited times that I’ve seen pros playing him, I’m usually facepalming when they do idiotic things with him. But he has a helluva lot more potential than the characters he’s lumped with, and is downright amazing in TM…He just requires some real thought to get there, which is more than most people are willing to put into him at this stage. *

What Wright is:

  • -The most difficult character in the game to use. You have to be good to use Wright unless you’re just plain lucky.*

  • -In Turnabout Mode, the closest thing to an instant win button since Vanilla Dark Phoenix.*

  • -One of the game’s best zoners. Projectile lockdown with cell phone = godlike.*

  • -Tremendously underestimated.*

  • What Wright is not:*

  • -A character for derpy players or people who don’t like to think.*

  • -A good idea to use against teleporters.*

  • -The end all answer to winning.*

  • What Wright should do:*

  • -Focus on gathering evidence in Investigation and zoning in Court/Turnabout Mode.*

  • -Be ready to fire off the level 3 at a moment’s notice to punish almost anything.*

  • -Use Maya when at all possible, either as a super, as a shield (he can hide inside of her entirely, lololol), or even as a normal attack to pressure people.*

  • -Take punishes when he can get them, rather than simply gathering evidence when someone is doing something unsafe (like a whiffed super). Gather evidence after getting a knockdown after a basic air series.*

  • -Switch out (safely) ASAP in Turnabout Mode and abuse the assist.*

  • What Wright should not do:*

  • -Blindly rushdown in Turnabout Mode.*

  • -Get too greedy. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. Getting greedy with evidence gathering = risking getting hit = ending up in a bad spot to be pressured. Gather evidence sporadically, don’t go for too many pieces at once.*

  • -Get too eager with the level 3. It’s an insanely powerful tool, but don’t try to beat invincibility with it. You will lose.*

umm didn’t break the witness get nerfed to fuck?

Otherwise your arguments are
[]No really investigation isn’t that bad, really!
[
]Gathering evidence isn’t that hard!

People are playing him wrong
Again, those aren’t good arguments.

ONLY good PW I saw was from that collection of Japanese UMVC3 vids from eventhubs.

That PW player was good, the problem was that his opponent looked very under skilled and he barely had any other good matches with PW. After one loss he would swap Wright for Hulk.
