UMVC3 SRK Tier List/Theory Discussion. (NEW THREAD NOW AVAILABLE)

Which is ironic because you certainly don’t need to be an evil genius to play she hulk/wolverine/akuma :sunglasses:

Well yea not many characters can 300% a team off a crouching jab that is mashable (with certain team set ups and flawless execution of course… probably wont ever see it happen in a match but it just gives you an idea of what he is capable of)

The fact that other characters can raw tag after Bon Voyage to do massive damage is also amazing. Seriously Firebrand into Viper is dumb duh dumb dumb dumb.

He is also a amazing character without that stuff I mentioned above. Beating dead horse here but he is Trish on crack. He also has an abare that is reminiscent of some stupid MvC2 Magneto stuff. His fuzzy guard is down right ridiculous and even if you block his first mixup it just leads into another and if blocked leads into another and what not. As Chrisis has said he pretty much can just shred right through push block as well.

I dont think we will see true Firebrand S tier for quite sometime though… Chrisis will have to show the world how dumb he is as he is one of the few who play him. People are really put off by his damage but it doesnt matter when he can hit you 20 times before you can get a clean hit on him once o_O.

I don’t mean to be a dick, but if even with some pretty slick presentation Viper hasn’t (well at least IMO, but then again I have different qualifications for S tier) proven her to be the Hogan-like momentum stopper of the whole game as she’s hyped up to be and she doesn’t have to deal with apparently have of the execution barriers that pop up around Firebrand…then, well, to quote the bird bitch herself, “What chance have you got?”

Spiderman can TOD 900-950K characters off a full screen webthrow, without X-factor with 1 DHC.

It’s really too bad that his projectiles do next to no chip damage.

Vergil is solid A tier.

Strider ended up being pretty damn good too.

Chrises took 1st at TnT on January 5th with Viper/Firebrand/Strider, and it wasn’t Viper doing all of the work.

Firebrand is legimitely scary, he has a lot of potential and people are figuring out ways to work around his generally low damage output. Raw tag combos, DHCs, and double fire super with Strider assists are few tricks.

He’s still in the realm of theory fighting atm due to not a lot of showings of the character, but he’s no MODOK, RR, or Shuma. This character is undoubtably good.

Good to know. I figured he was going to be that slept on champion before the game released. Good to see it panned out that way.

BTW the GRAND TIER LIST is up on the front page. Check it out.

MODOK isn’t theory, the best just aren’t known ;D

Trust me, IPig from Cali is terrifying. MODOK with Drones, plus Wesker in the back. God almighty.

I’m grateful I’ve been asked to post a tier list. However…

Background

[details=Spoiler]

*You need as many good tier list as you do bad. That’s why my name was included  *

Due to the fact that I have no scene, am unable to learn my characters through and through thanks to online play, and hardly ever switch teams due to the previous statement, I am probably one of the worst candidates for tier listing. Still… Whether you wish to keep me as one of the contributors or not, I will do whatever I can to explore the characters in this game and exploit their bullshit to the max so that I can be a positive influence upon this topic as opposed to my usual brosexual fanatics.[/details]

Tier list: 1-8-2012

[details=Spoiler]Currently, I’m only going to tier characters I run into often enough to have understood their mahvel, others will have to wait until I pull them into the lab. Consider this an online tier list if you’d like, but please do understand, bullshit offline is 10 times worse online.

*note: A plus next to the name means they could go higher, a minus means lower

**Characters I’ve played against but unfortunately can not accurately tier at this point in time.

**Characters I currently can not tier due to a lack of experience or background knowledge
Shuma Gorath, Chun Li, Trish, MODOK[/details]

Reasoning

[details=Spoiler]Zero: A walking hitbox, conversions up the wazoo, unintentional cross ups, damage, cancelable specials into a soft knockdown, and so much more bullshit. Vanilla Wolverine has nothing on this ridiculous character.

Dante: Obnoxious hit boxes, aerial zoning, more mix ups than Zero, DT turns him into an even better character, Jam Session is one of the best assist in the game, j.H is safe to throw out randomly and converts into a ground magic series from any connecting distance all the while being a great OS throw.

Dormammu: I’ve seen a lot of people saying he’s not safe on most of his normals. That may be true, but in my experience, a good Dormammu approaches from air via teleport shenanigans and a lovely hitbox that covers his entire lower half. Can’t punish what forces you into blockstun and recovers from frame lag after landing. Combine his overhead, silly zoning, damage, random hyper, and you’ve got a character worth A Tier

Nova: That :h:. Possibly one of the best flight/air dash characters in MvC3, he packs some of the easiest cross ups in the game, I want to say the stupidest safe on block normals I’ve ever seen, combos that seem to last far too long for the damage he packs, zoning that destroys all other zoners, and a hyper that laughs at damage scaling. Overall, he’s S Tier when it comes to bullshit, but A Tier (Possibly A minus Tier) when it comes to Marvel.

Hawkeye: Aw screw it. I’ll just write a reasoning here if someone ask.[/details]

S tier implies that a character is above and beyond the rest of the cast - or ‘Super’ if you will. S tier characters change the entire dynamics of the game. Think Vanilla Phoenix or AE Yun.

The only character I feel that does that now is Wesker. People just put him on their team because he’s Wesker.

Completely impractical.

1hr 54min for the Zero doubters.

Disgusting.

It’s all to do with the shades and XFactor now with Wesker… Nerf this and the majority of players would be awful with him.

Good god. Zero for S+ Tier.

reasons

[details=Spoiler] The S have tools to dominate the rest of the cast and usually have more options wether in theory or actual gameplay Ive seen good firebrands but I dont believe he is as good as Dante or zero. Strider brings the best assist and anchor combo in the game its actually silly to the point where if you have two otg capable characters you should be using him. Viper is good in theory and she does have alot of tools so il put her in S.

A: Have tools better than the rest of the cast but struggle with the S tiers. These characters are generally picked due to fact they fit various positions on teams due to maybe assist or dhc synergy played properly though they do have the ability to be a problem.

B. Characters with decent tools but are pretty much average they lack somewhere and cant just be thrown on a team without some thaught behind there assist or consideration into where there being placed nothing great but there not to bad either.

C. These characters are pretty bad I mean on paper you might be like yeah but with this assist there decent but compared to the S class there terrible.

D. There usuable but you wont be winning any majors with anyone in this group

[/details]

Someone is gonna have to sell me on the Viper thing…

My brother does the lightning loop regularly also. If you played any combo/anime games from the past it’s not that hard to do practically. Zero doesn’t have anything execution wise that is impractical that I’ve seen.

I feel the same. The links aren’t really all that difficult if you sit down and practice them. Hell, Taskmaster’s 2-rep Shield Skills training loop is harder than Zero’s Lightning Loop. Even more, you’re not rewarded with an infinite for pulling off such silly timing with Taskmaster like you are with Zero.

Go Capcom wooo.

Yeah, I just wanna see where the excuses are going to come from now. Tbh you should just link that in the first post lol.

What is the training loop? I’m still doing my vanilla Taskmaster combos I just added in some sharp stings.
