UMVC3 Patch/Balance Discussion *NO PATCH...but word is out of possible ALL CAPCOM VS game coming*

Its worse than 33/33/33 for some characters like magneto cause you can bait their mashing for an easy reset that is safe to try. The fact that you have to mash is the worst part and complete garbage. Nerf that shit

Didn’t know I was going to be opening such a can of worms by inquiring about that. OOPS. I can agree with a lot of your changes though, most notably imo Arthur being able to replenish Gold Armor along with turning Iron Man and Ghost Rider into real characters.

Things i would like for she-hulk:
slide from vanilla returned
lights out! (<- H.)has 2 hit of super armor and reaches full screen.
forward h.(greeting punch) has a 5 frame reduction in start-up
1 or 2 frame start-up reduction on cr. m
heavy strike L start-up changed from 10 frame start-up to 3 frame
heavy strike m start-up changed from 9 frame start-up to 7 frame
quater circle back L,M,H gives clothesline where the button affects the range heavy version has 1 hit of armor, and L,M versions can combo from magic series, hitting airborn opponent lands a wall bounce and holding forward gives chariot, holding back gives catapult. crumples standing opponent.
emerald cannon no longer counts towards your wall bounces
grab range for taking out the trash increased to the height of she-hulks jump.

Giving a character a whole bunch of armor usually does nothing except make them scrubbier.

Dunno if you’re new to Marvel, but I thought the rule of the thumb when it came to Marvel mix-ups was “don’t get in them in the first place”.

I think I understand the game well enough to know that “stupid easy mix-ups” aren’t a problem in higher levels of play, it’s a strong, technical neutral game. And IMO, the neutral game in UMvC3 has some solid ass game mechanics. Besides, the visceral nature of broken set-ups and damage is what attracts a lot of people to the game.

If these stupid mix-ups make scrubs feel good about themselves, enough to take an interest in the game and participate in tournies, great. Eventually, after going 1-2 they’ll learn that their shit doesn’t fly.

If XF3 was as broken as you say it is, I still don’t get why XF use still varies in high level play. From what I’ve seen, the higher the level of the play, the earlier the use of it. In my opinion, it adds a much needed moment of insanity and desperation that is guaranteed to happen every match, but I’m aware that others don’t have the same view as me.

XF3 comebacks usually stem from having no X-Factor and making 3 wrong guesses. Still goes with the saying “don’t get there in the first place”. Snapbacks, early X-Factors, or a strong team composition can prevent it from happening. Ever had your anchor snapped in, XF1’d to a death, and having your team dismantled? Happens to me plenty, I can do nothing but respect it.

So what constitutes bad game mechanics? If tournament results are predictable, the metagame continues to evolve, and interest in the game continues to grow with no signs of waning, are the game mechanics still inherently bad?

you guys are sleeping on ironman, that character is really fucking good. I think the only thing holding him back is his ground dash. He has to wait 11 frames after dashing to jump where as other characters get to move freely. By doing shit like this, Capcom can control how strong certain characters are thus controlling the tier list. Chris had this problem in vanilla and he shot way up there after they removed his fucked dash.

TAC’s being breakable and allowing you to combo afterwards would be great but as they are right now, they are unreactable. You can predict them coming but you can never truly know which one they go for unless the opponent has specific setups. Doom in the corner can just TAC any direction and always get a beastly combo. Not quite sure what to do about TACs but being able to combo after you break them should definitely be in the next build.

dormamu is fine, the character is nicely developed.

vergil\zero need big tweaks. Zero’s damage output needs to be nerfed and that is probably it. With the lightning loop he should get 850 off a max combo with assists. This way when he dumps 2 meters, he’s killing all characters like a DHC would. As of now he gets way too much life off a simplistic ass series. Zero shouldn’t get a self unblocakble either. Vergil’s sword super needs to be a level 3. His design was to destroy DP and he does but a level 1 super to beat DP ends up beating the rest of the characters in the game for free. If you were to do this, you can make his DT better than it is now and actually make him fight rather than abuse swords into guaranteed mixups, that lead to bar, that lead to more sword loops and more free mixups and more bar. As a level 3 super, it wouldn’t be possible to do this. Shit, I would even be happy if his sword super costs 2 bars and his little extensions like crown would cost 1 more.

I would like XF gone but they probably won’t do that

It’s not moronic, the game hasn’t even been out for a* god damn year, so * what kind of scrubfuckery this is?

Calling for an overhaul of a game while people are still figuring it out? Leave it alone. What happened to playing around things and getting better?

Oh I forgot, SRK is NO different from Unity, Eventhubs, ect now. There is ZERO difference and it’s because of people like you. Who want to change the game until it suits them.

btw, I grew up playing fighting games. SF2:WW all the way to today’s games. So you’re wrong on 2 accounts. I hope this thread gets closed.

Well ain’t that a coincidence, I also started with WW.

I guess we’ve reached an impasse. You seem to be a thoughtless sheep who will gladly chow down on any shiny new turd that’s presented to you until it somehow starts to taste good because you’ve grown accustomed to the its particular nutty flavor whereas I simply think you’re a moron for doing so. Maybe I just can’t appreciate the smooth texture of the corn niblets amongst the, you know, shit. My loss I guess.

I see now that the very suggestion that something might be fundamentally wrong with the game is unsavory to you, to the point of being offensive if someone would even want to discuss it. Any further discourse with you will be fruitless so I’ll stop here.

Keep your shitty opinion.

On that note not sure why people are swinging in the wishlist thread to complain about wishlisting. It’s the theory thread again with people complaining about theory.

except for greeting punch and emerald cannon( it was just wishful thinking), i feel that she needed armor on lights out and she needed that quater circle back clothesline( in chariot, she already has 1 hit of super armor on clothesline.) above all else she-hulk needs something very close to her vanilla slide.

Doesn’t she already have armor on Lights Out?

Dude take a breather. First and foremost you need to look at the history of Capcom’s fighting games. Hell look at the history in the past 5 years. SFIV Arcade - SFIV Home Edition was 1 year. SFIV - SSFIV was about 1 year. SSFIV to AE was about 8 months. AE to 2012 was less than a year. MvC3 to UMvC3 was 7 months. Your point of “this game has not been out for a god damn year” is moot. Even Capcom patches their games before a year ends.

As far as I know AE2012 is considered one of the more balanced fighting games of today’s fighters, so its pretty much proven already that the “wait and see” attitude isn’t necessarily the only way we can go about this. MvC2 was a fun game to watch and play, but do we need 10 more years to realize how broken it is and how useless 40 of the 52 characters are? Its not that we have to think about patching things or changing things, its that we can. We are lucky enough to have Capcom who “listens” (in quotes because its 50/50 if they actually take the advice).

I think this thread exists so people can get mad, not have inherently intelligent discussion on balance and what the actual game needs.

Because this game needs smarter players, otherwise Chris G is going to dominate everything because the smarter players aren’t playing/aren’t building proper teams. No offense to the top players, but if they want to start winning they can’t run teams that get destroyed once Morrigan gets her fireballs on screen. Just realize that instead of trying to fight bad matchups, find some bullshit composition and just run trains through people. That’s what CJ does. Great neutral game and then he just mixes you up with a mixup that is ridiculously good (That doesn’t involve Dark Matter at all, pages 2 and 3)

Age of Skrull, Strange, Raccoon, Nova, Strider and Cap’n counterpicks are about to start happening if people actually start paying attention. If not, then I’ll just sit with popcorn tins and watch Chris G win about 20 more trophies.

Why are you still talking to that guy? LOL.

I usually just change tabs and listen if I saw someone face Chris G with their useless teams since they’ve lost at the character select screen.

It’s Marvel…people gonna get salty. Game is pretty damn balanced but salt still. LOL.

No, I just don’t mind figuring things out or losing to something that is really good. I also always have the option to use the broken/overpowered stuff as well if I feel that I can’t beat it. I don’t think changing fighting games this often is a good thing. The game has been out for less than a year and we are already seeing some very interesting developments. ChrisG is forcing people to create actual teams and put some thought into their formations. You have to either have two teams or a team that can zone or beat zoning and can also rush and do decent damage. This is nothing but great for the game and the community… The tech we will see in the coming months is sure to be amazing. A patch would just ruin all of that by taking out the things that people hate or dislike. Then we would be back at the start all over again and something else would be found to complain about. MvC2 Spiral and Cable both were eventually overcome, and not through patches, it was through player skill.

I’m just saying another patch doesn’t need to happen again as fast as that. Ultimate was quite the update. New characters, stages, balance, ect… I’d like to see where the game goes on the merit of its players for a bit before we all have to go back to the drawing board to figure out the new most powerful stuff. That being said I don’t even think people have touched the surface of OP possibilities in Ultimate.

Fuck character nerfs. We need character buffs. And please, no gameplay mechanic changes

It doesn’t matter how much you buff certain characters as long as some remain the tools they have now.

Yeah, but no one in this game has been shown to be consistently too dominant. Only at mid-level and at the lower high level play do derp characters derp people out. Especially now that everyone is going to 3/5.
