UMVC3 Patch/Balance Discussion *NO PATCH...but word is out of possible ALL CAPCOM VS game coming*

You know, I never talked about balance, but about making the characters a little more durable. Cable and company dominated in MVC2 because they were poorly balanced and zoning was way too good in that game. MVC3 is a million times more balanced as it is, so that wouldn’t be an issue. Not talking about balance, just about making the game less unforgiving.

And I don’t want the game to be like MVC2 in every sense of the word, just to adopt a thing that was great about MVC2: the characters had lots of health (which didn’t harm the game’s fun factor in the least).
Back in MVC3 days, pretty much EVERYONE was whining that MVC3 matches ended way too quickly, everyone dealt way too much damage and X-Factor was ridiculous. It was one of the main on-going dramas regarding MVC3 in those days. Many people stated that the game “sucked” precisely because of that. I remember how all of my fighting game buddies (hardcore fighting game fans, before you question that) abandoned the game in favour of SF4 because of X-Factor and ridiculous damage.

Even to this day, lots of players complain about MVC3 because it is a very frustrating game to play and because defeats are not always fair and can feel like a slap in the face. Most of the complains regarding this game are centered around the issue of frustration.
So, to get to the point, yes, I think that giving the characters slightly more health would change the game for the better. The gameplay would start feeling less “wildcard” and more “strategic,” as you would get more chances if you make a mistake. As I see it, that would only help support for the game and the community grow.

And I don’t agree with your “if you like it, you like it” statement, sir.

The funny thing is before MVC3 actually came out…everyone took less damage and the matches lasted longer. There were a lot of time outs in early development like in SFxT and so it was changed before release so that average players could win matches faster. Then of course when people who actually know how to do combos learned the game everyone started dying really fast. So basically playtesters got what they asked for even if they didn’t know they didn’t want it.

In reality though outside of XF the damage isn’t too much different from MVC2. If Storm hits you the start of round in MVC2 you basically take 90 percent or more damage after a DHC and then you’re just about dead or dead if you took any type of hit or chip before that.

Most of the reason why MVC3 is balanced or allows the lower cast to win is based on 2 things. One is that the game gives characters that can’t fly more options against those that can and 2 is that the stronger cast that inevitably has lower health has lower health. The only really really good character with a lot of health is Spencer. I would argue Wesker also but he’s not really a TOD character also and Spencer has better defensive options. The game just wouldn’t work competitively with the top tier characters having a bunch of health as they would leave absolutely no reason to play the lower cast getting more than one chance to regularly live.

They would have to nerf the shit out of the top cast if they gave them more health and that would just make things more boring.

We know from 3rd Strike and a bunch of other fighting games that health can’t balance cheap.

What the hell happened to the Dmg between mvc2 and UMVC3? in
-MVC2 you had to go for 1 or 2 resets to fully kill a character
-in UMVC3 you Can TOD everyone

And for the love of god Buff sentinel and Rocket raccoon sentinel is a mutant hunter why would have such low health

Hmm, you may have a point, sir. Dark Phoenix with more health could indeed become a problem.

Still, I think that getting rid of MVC3’s frustration factor would draw much more players in, and would give the game a more widespread acclaim. If only there was a middle path solution.

I remember everyone did back then, at least before many just accepted that the game was what it was… There’s a reason Storm’s Lightning Storm no longer causes a free fall state anymore.

That’s not true. Plenty of the cast could kill you in one combo they just weren’t all the best characters in the game. Most characters in front of Sentinel is basically a TOD waiting to happen and of course Iron Man you basically can’t get touched by. Random mid tiers like Juggernaut and Tron were TOD centric characters also.

XF and unscaled level 3’s is the main reason people die faster but there’s so many cheap BS situations in MVC2 any ways that being able to live or get reset doesn’t really make things too much better.

It really just came down to the fact that combos were harder and required more awareness of hit boxes and spacing. Which had people dropping combos more often and giving the appearance of a less TOD centric game. Its just the things that kill you in this game are much easier to set up because of the way the hit boxes and meter system function.

make morrigan scale less on shell kick and h that way she can do more damage

make sentinel get refly and increase ground movement speed

give spidey web hammer for ground bounce and otg

give chun li a command grab, air fireball and ability to block on her air dash

give modik a gravitation type move like storm and magneto

give wolverine his invincibility on his berserk er slash again

trons fire assist should be invincible again

magneto assist should be allowed to be comboed off again

the ability to call assists twice in a combo

…hopefully, history won’t repeat itself. trust me when i say this, you guys asking for inane changes that just started playing marvel/vs games with mvc3 DO NOT want a repeat of this games design or direction.

Nobody’s asking for MSH vs SF. Removing some of the dumber shit from MvC3 won’t turn it into that.

As much as I love sentinel, theyd have to be really careful when fixing him since his assist is so damn good.

Sentinel needs less pushback on sM, 1mil health, and DRONES MOVE SLOWER. This way, Sentinel assist becomes easier to punish AND point sentinel gets a new way to cover his approach by following behind his drones Guile-style.

I agree, Iron Man needs nerfs.
