Sword Loops are so easy I could do them in my sleep. I literally went into the lab one day to see how easy Vergil was, and I was able to do sword loops on like my second try. Vergil is way easy, if anyone says he is hard, then they probably main easy to play characters like Wesker, Wolverine, or Hulk.
People have complained about their executional difficulty since Vanilla. Unless you’ve been in a hole where there’s no internet you should have seen plenty of complaints on forums and streams already.
Its just redundant to bring it up especially since they’re not even the best characters in the game.
I still think barring getting zoned out Hulk is the easiest character in the game.
I thought it was hilarious when the game first came out and everyone was saying how not being able to cancel normals on wiff was a huge balancing factor for vergil…lol. right. When your normals cover half screen and one of your best moves is decently safe (helm breaker can be chicken blocked, i know) that “not being able to cancel on wiff” doesn’t even matter. If your a good vergil player, you’ll rarely get punished.
Why did they decide not to give him a bold cancel mechanic like dante? Just wanted him to be seperate and unique from him or what? I wish there was at least some sort of executional barrier
Well they didn’t give him bold cancel for the same reason he can’t whiff cancel and all of that other stuff. It was supposed to be done to actually make him harder to play. Like how people pointed out in Vanilla…“aw yeah…Vergil won’t be as good as Dante…if you whiff…no bold cancel you dead…Dante can just bold cancel everything, best evvarr”.
Bold cancel would really make Vergil easier to play. Bold cancels really aren’t that hard to do any way.
Vergil obviously has some type of executional barrier because OMG keeps dropping his combos like an overloaded grocery bag.
Plus Devil Trigger is still slept on for him because it gives him a lot of new tools and IMPROVES his hit boxes (god forbid) while allowing him to play like a normal character (whiff all day). Find a good way to make a team that can build him meter and go nuts. Which shouldn’t be too hard to do now.
In a vacuum it’s balanced but when optimized by people who consider their options and play fighting games seriously…Vergil got the better end of the stick. Which since Vergil didn’t have time to go through a year of analyzing his things that are probably too good obviously slipped through.
They work pretty decent together though so at least there’s that (more so Dante helping Vergil).
True, didnt really think of how vergil would be now if he played as dante does shudders. Even though his sword loops require some executional skill, I just hate little things about the character that make him so easy to play for so much reward. Teleport motions not being dp motion, followup teles to stinger and helm breaker being the push of a button…his frame data in general lol.
Also, like you said, I’m not sure why more people aren’t using devil trigger. Swords are extremely oppresive as we all know, but I play against a friend that uses devil trigger quite often and I honestly feel he is scarier in with that than swords. Mainly because I dont know whats coming
Because cutting off your meter gain for an insignificant damage boost is low risk low reward. You’re better off either using swords or saving it for lvl 4.
Rapid Slash - weasel shot crossup nonsense makes baby jesus cry. You can’t see the weasel shot coming because Vergil is already on the other side blocking the bullets with his spinny slashy blades. My reactions are too slow, I will get hit by it every time.
Surprised people keep talking about Dante. He’s pretty stupid, just requires execution to be stupid. If anything were to be nerfed, remove his invincibility on hammer. If he needs a nerf, that should be the only one really. Everything else he does requires at least 1-2 meters and/or 2 good assists such as his trench coat brethren.
In terms if anti-air assists, I’d be 100% for them being invincible with 1 catch, you can’t combo off of them. Literally make them GTFO assists. Hell, give back Tron and Haggar invincibility. Just remove any possibility of combos. Similar to how a countered TAC leaves them in an untouchable soft knockdown. Same deal here. That way if someone was playing keep away they could, without getting freebie combos in doing so. This would also mean you can’t use the assists to extend combos either which is a pretty decent tradeoff if your whole strategy is based around keep away and baiting people with invincible assists.
It’s not really just an insignificant damage boost. Especially if you’ve already built 3 to 4 meters with Vergil which there’s plenty of ways to do if you build your team around it. He’s literally a better character in DT and with 3 or 4 meters to spend it’s definitely worth it. It also doesn’t deactivate on trades or hits like sword spiral does. Vergil with strong air movement, recoverable health, bigger hit box and safer frame data on specials and normals is a big big deal.
Rapid Slash assist loses hard in the neutral to other hit box heavy teams/assists. If you can get them to be touched by it it’s not bad, but that’s easier said than done for the most part.
Dante has 8 frame or more start up on all his normals so the last thing he needs is more nerfed invincibility on hammer.
They’re not bringing back invincible assists because they already stated before Vanilla released that they didn’t really like the concept of them. They want people to go ham with buttons so that’s why people are on the hidden missiles run or try to still make lariat work somehow.
It’s possible to combo after a TAC counter, just very rare/hard to do.
Maybe in a year if it’s ever discovered how to punish Vergil accordingly. Of the Vergil’s I faced, once you’re put in block stun, all of those things become irrelevant.
No she isn’t. In fact while I was reading about how “Dante got nerfed so hard” I was thinking “Not as badly as Tron”. And then I read that. She’s really bad, she didn’t need to get nerfed so hard. Maybe lose the invincible assist, but everything else could have stayed the same.
