UMVC3 Patch/Balance Discussion *NO PATCH...but word is out of possible ALL CAPCOM VS game coming*

Semantics

I think its the ultimate form of irony that TACs, a shitty system that were put in there for the Mtn Dew Mouthbreathers so they could cycle through all their characters and feel like a badass, are now be exploited in such a way that they will become essential to the metagame.

And by irony I mean this shit is fucking retarded and should be taken out.

I mean really, does Capcom want to let their epic live marvel streams be reduced to watching infinites? I think we’ll guage how hype or un-hype infinites become based on Evo…

What’s a mouth breather?

Also has anyone gotten to Nitsuma after the discovery of these infinites? Pretty sure Capcom hates infinites, if they find it they are going to remove it even if it means nerfing the character. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone at Capcom confirms a patch for Marvel at EVO.

ever since vanilla, ive despised TACS so much. its such a useless mechanic and i hated the guessing aspect of it, as well the accidental/voluntary resets that occur because u simply didnt guess right. But over time, ive just accepted it (despite hating it).

Now, we got infinites because of that very system, time to practice the Dante one and find it for spencer/hawkeye! lol

edit: I actually found a way to possibly set it up for spencer, but not finalized

The problem with this new development is that the risk vs. reward of going for a TAC (and now an infinite combo) is such:
Kill character, build tons of meter.
Take a tiny amount of damage and go back to neutral.

It’s quite unbalanced.

My question was always why do we need the TAC system when the average bnb does 700 to 750k with a Hyper combo and a DHC afterwards will kill most average health characters. Combine this with characters having potent resets and X Factor that acts as both a damage booster and a combo extender, and many characters even having infinites or high damage combos no meter kill combos in X Factor. Why do we need TACs? We have enough ways to TOD already. TAC is just overkill on top of being a bad mechanic. The average damage in this game is too high anyway.

i thought the same thing, but there kind of is a strategy to it: if you don’t like your meter stolen, TAC side; if you don’t want your opponent to have meter, TAC down. if you want more meter, TAC down, etc.
if it’s a special team, like hulk, captain america, and … idk, ammy, then you can adjust accordingly to remove their meter and prevent them from gaining it through TACs. and finally, it’s easy to break a TAC if your opponent keeps doing the same one.
TACing is also the safe alternative to hard tagging, and characters like frank and wright live for it. i feel the game would lose something without it.
also, don’t forget that the beta mvc3 allowed the player who broke a TAC to start their own TAC! now THAT’S stupid and was removed.

idk how capcom are gonna fix this TAC infinite thing, but i hope they don’t screw up any characters in the process.

Itll eventually be a tool for characters with less tools like sentinel,Hsien ko,Trish etc. I dont see this being in mags main intent.

Because a lot of characters that would otherwise be less viable can TAC into their options. Phoenix Wright -> upgrade. Frank West -> level up. Shuma -> Damage (without spending a year in training mode).

It’s too much of a guessing game for me, sure it’s easier for Frank to Level Up and P.Wright to Objection, but there are other viable combos with sometimes less risk involved to do the same thing.

And for the TAC infinites, just fix that HSD thing… somehow. As for the whole mechanic itself, TvC had it good and basic: Use a meter to do a TAC. No gimmicks, no extra power, no guessing game. And here’s another concept from TvC: Don’t want your opponent to TAC? Use a meter (or two, and/or maybe a bit of HP) yourself to get out of that combo (basically Mega Crash it, and it should only work to counter TACs).

…I miss my Wii mainly for that game… (Online was HORRIBLE though…)

Nitsuma responds to the whole TAC infinite shenanigans. Sounds like a patch is incoming.

Because Marvel 2 infinites were not baby ass easy mode braindead dogshit and required precise positioning, extreme execution, and a very deep understanding of the game engine. Plus you couldn’t patch games in 2000.

But go ahead and keep thinking that losing a game of rock paper scissors rigged in the aggressor’s favor and watching your opponent do an extremely braindead timer scamming infinite somehow makes this game better.

Everyone who fucking spouts off about infinites in Marvel 2 didn’t play the game. Every viable one dizzied before killing sans Ironman on a low defense modifier character while ending in super and dhc. “Infinites” were essentially combo filler portions for damage before eventually resetting, and I mean actually resetting not just pressing S and a direction.

I think the infinites in this game are a much smaller deal than people are saying due to the already ridiculous meter gain and damage, but repeatedly echoing buzzwords you heard another imbecile spew out just makes you uninformed and detrimental to discussion, not that such a thing could exist on SRK regardless.

TL;DR go do Magnetos ROM to 999 hits in marvel 2, try it with a programmable pad if you want.

I think most people are referring to Iron Man’s infinite since that’s the one that everyone can do (unless you’re talking about character specific infinites like on Sentinel). Iron Man had an infinite and all it did is bump him up to top tier, not god tier even though he could 300% you off a touch. It didn’t change the metagame that much. It still wasn’t the best in the game.

i used to think the same thing, but all you have to do is commit to the direction you don’t want them to do. most players don’t even use TAC combos, they just pick 2 random directions with mmh tac, mmh, tac, mmh hyper so it looks like they did a long combo.
the meter TAC thing is a stretch. it might have worked in vanilla, but with the pathetic meter building in ultimate, there’d just be no meter for anything else. everything already costs meter; that’s why we hardly see level 3s online. and this is coming from someone who has morrigan’s dark harmonizer.
maybe they could fix these infinite things by making the HSD continue when either your opponent OR you touch the ground. i’m not sure.

Maybe Capcom fixing HSD from TACs will somehow in a round about way fix Lighting Loops and Spiral Swords if they don’t decide to bundle TAC infinite fix with a balance patch. One can hope.

These aren’t infinites because they start off of an escapable situation. Therefore they are not technically infinites and Capcom will not patch them.

Just like they didn’t patch Chun Li’s who’s had a TAC infinite forever (or maybe because she’s middle of the road character where they just don’t care).

This wasn’t the way MVC2 worked out to be so why this game?

Not even Iron Man’s infinite was a true 100% combo, you needed to reset or DHC on characters like Sent.

Try again

And you can go right the fuck ahead and assume I said that I support them myself. I very much don’t, I’m just laughing at all of these people who say they want UMvC3 to be more like Marvel 2, and then once an infinite comes out they want it removed. Make up your fucking mind.

But no, don’t fucking bother reading a goddamned thing I wrote and just assume I’m supporting them. By the way, a dice roll, while still having a very slim chance of getting it right, is still better than being fucking dead guaranteed. An infinite is still a fucking infinite, don’t try to justify that shit with “high understanding of game”, you still aren’t getting out, even more so in Marvel 2.
