Let’s not kid ourselves. This is still Daigo. He is still a monster at reading people.
Yet he has actually been losing a lot of matches to his inexperience with the character. Like I said though it won’t last forever and eventually Daigo will hit his stride.
Cammy is underrated, people dropped her after all her AE combos changed into 1f links and they killed her broken TKCS (well it’s still in but you need meter).
She gets some spice back in the old HK SA, and with every top tier nerfed she should do good.
Fact: “Sako combos” were already 1f links
Fact: A lot of her new combos are much easier than Sako Combos
Fact: cr.hp, far hp is a 2 frame link
Fact: her ability to combo got easier not harder
Simple. Whichever shoto is considered the best in AE 2012 (at this point it’s down to Akuma or Ken) will be the one that he picks up. Not too much thinking to it.
In all likelyhood Daigo will not be using Akuma in 2012. Akuma’s damage output in the style that Daigo wants to use him simply isn’t high enough. His Fireball/DP game does not earn him much damage and where Akuma does net damage, vortex, doesn’t seem to be what Daigo wants to do. He would rather safe jump all day. While very low risk is also low reward against smart players. Add to that Akuma’s only true fireball blockstring is fp>fireball it seems clear that Akuma is not quite what Daigo is looking for.
I suspect that Daigo will go back to Ryu with Cammy as his bad matchup backup plan.
Why doesn’t go back to Ryu or use Guile or Evil Ryu as his mains? I seriously think those three characters suit his style of play well, I mean seriously watching his Yun just put me to sleep and his Akuma and Cammy isn’t really showing any good progress.
I’m a Daigo fan and I admit it. I enjoy watching him play through his victories and his defeats, but watching his Ryu totally was an inspiration and he’s pull off legendary technology/stuff with him that most Ryu players haven’t thought of.
I know he’s sponsored and he’s taking it seriously, but he should use a character that he knows that he can use and that can give him more favorable results
Possibly. I have a feeling he’s waiting until the game is available for him to tinker with properly before he starts exploring Akuma’s finer points. Right now it makes sense to hold off learning his setups and oki because as of 2012, a lot of it has been shit-canned. For someone new to Akuma it makes no sense to invest time in learning setups that in 8 days are ostensibly out the door.
I expect him to keep an open mind to a lot of potential character choices though at the same time I feel Yun isn’t completely gimped either. If Daigo were to maintain the style he’s been demonstrating with Akuma, I think a more sensible choice for him would definitely be Ryu with Yun being his backup charcter of choice to deal with Ryu’s problem match up VS Dhalsim.
I’m not too sure what he’s doing with this whole Akuma experimentation. I guess in a few weeks we’ll learn more. The first ‘serious’ 2012 tournament he enters I guess will reveal a lot though right now its really up in the air both for those of us speculating and for him.
And they added more. Also, I didn’t say cr.HP into far HP, I said combo in those two from lows.
Not that it matters, it’s online warriors and the likes which complained about that, in case you missed my point.
I agree, and really don’t understand why he’s not already back with Ryu with Yun as secondary.
I mean it’s not like he’ll stop being a tourney character or trash Sim like he did in AE, and SIm’s is probably the only matchup where it doesn’t matter if you’re the best Ryu player on the planet, it’s still too hard (still laughing @ Daigo haters who claimed the Ryu-Sim matchup was even).
Eh Cammy lost a lot of shit apart from her TKCS… most of it unlisted. What she’s getting back in 2k12 is one of the unlisted nerfs… Her HK Spiral Arrow was butchered, her EX Divekick hitbox was changed, her close st hp anti air was nerfed since Sako was too godlike doing it apparently, far st hp dmg was reduced, frame advantage on cl st mp was reduced and a few other things. Oh and her jabs were still 2 frame combos even though they should’ve been 4 frame because Capcom are lazy fuckers @ coding. Add that to her divekick height restriction, reduced pushback on her dp (i love how they did this and than let Yun do what he could…) and her reduced damage on Spiral Arrows and she took a massive hit. Yeah she got better combos which did the same dmg and stun as her Super combos thanks to her other nerfs. Yeah she could frame trap better but her normals have so much pushback and her throw range is the worse in the game…
As for why he’s not using Ryu? Probably because Ken, Akuma and Evil Ryu are better.
I know about EX CS hitbox (shit, when I mess around with her the most absurd moves beat me out of it lol), but damage reduction on st.HP and cr.HP were necessary once you make them combo into each other - and damage is still very okay there, it’s 85 and 90 iirc. HK Arrow is back which is good for her, it looked just stupid.
What’s the deal with cl.st.MP? It’s still +6, if you meant on block, that doesn’t changes things that much, compared to other nerfs.
Also, what with the jabs? I remember some videos about it, but couldn’t really bother :E

AE ken > AE Ryu, but I don’t see much difference now in v2012, Ken even lost his comboable sweep, the buffs seem kinda meaningless. Still too early for such speculation though.
I don’t think anyone here at the Akuma forums is much surprised by this turn of events… Daigo needs a character he can win with and although with time, he probably could’ve made a contender out of the AE 2012 Gimped Gouki, there’s no way he has the time to invest in this venture. So much for Gouki being the top character after the update…
I’m now curious to see who else gets to eat crow after naming Gouki “#1 character after AE 2012 patch”.
I think (better yet Hope) that ver2012 will be like SSFIV, which for most part didn’t have a single character standout as the best character in the game, I’d really love that even if it means Akuma had to get nerfed in the process to avoid being absolute #1.
As for Daigo switching back to Ryu, if he did decide to stick with him, IMO that would be the best decision he ever made. I honestly do not see him succeed as either Akuma or Cammy, hell he didn’t succeed with a broken character like Yun, his style just “clicks” with Ryu IMO.
Ryu is solid now, watching Japanese players AA with fierce SRK for 160 damage like it’s Vanilla made me jealous as an Akuma player lol. He can use Yun vs Sim and even though Fei’s nerfs aren’t that significant, they at least will make the Ryu matchup a bit easier, specially those damage nerfs.
Random question: Will Socal Regionals use AE ver2012 and is Daigo planning to attend it?
The fact that he did better againts Seth with Ryu is kinda… hillarious? I don’t know, I find it nearly impossible, sure he has much more expirience with Ryu then with Akuma, but without a TP on knock down he had to guess every single time, not only on the jump ins (crossup or not?) but at the fallow ups as well (SPD, Shoryu, go low\high, empty jump SPD hrow, you know how it is with Seth!) and didn’t really had any option to escape the mix-ups as opposite to Gouki. And with that said, according to the numbers on EventHubs he only played 8 games as Ryu instead of 18 as Akuma, which leads to believe it was partially luck (no, don’t laugh I’m serious here!). I mean come on! You really think Ryu has a sweet time when he’s knocked down againts seth? No way it doesn’t even compare to Akuma who has a free escape out of it. Sure it can be punished by Seths U1. But not consistently, not even a pro can always OS ultra into his jump in’s.
Anyway, buttom line - I don’t think that the fact that he’s lost to Seth says anything about Akuma or Daigo except that he doesn’t have that much match-up expirience and lacks expirience with Akuma as well. I’m sure if he would want to, he could invest enough effort and just learn how to fight it. That’s what I think.
Teleports IMO are very helpful in this matchup @ midscreen (I’ve seen countless times where Poongko punished those with only a standing fierce, which most would happily take to escape his pressure), but teleporting becomes a huge risk at corners where Seth wants you to be, his wall jump can rape a teleport if you get too happy with it.
Still though if used properly teleports help a lot in this matchup, it’ll make Seth look out/worry about stuff which is good for Akuma. U2 also makes teleports even more valuable, that alone will make Seth worry about applying his stupid SPD/SRK mixups.
