I mean it doesn’t seem like he tried blocking after the flash, TU out, back dash, or the punch jab method at all.
He couldn’t have blocked after the flash. In the video he was already in hitstun when the flash happened. So I assume it works like Rose’s and Seth’s backthrow setups, which means you have no option to block at all.
Does Focusing a fireball then backdash after the freeze work for any of the unblockable ultra characters aside from Rose (since I know this wouldn’t work)?
Focus backdash doesn’t work against against Seth’s or Sagat’s (and yeah it doesn’t work against Rose’s either). Dunno about Ken but I’m assuming it either doesn’t work or doesn’t matter.
well I was thinking you would backdash either for the airborne property in the case of Seth, or invincibility/distance properties in the case of Sagat/everybody else.
So yeah, it’d be an on-reaction method to evade.
In that case it’s better to backdash without the FA, because naked backdash beats Rose’s and in some cases will beat Seth’s. But not all backdashes are created equal so it’s probably character dependent in regards to each setup. I do know that FA backdash loses to Rose’s and Seth’s though, and Ryu definitely can’t FA backdash Sagat’s.
These are in tentatively. I think these set ups are going to find themselves getting a lot more attention for awhile. As far as escapes we’re probably going to see more of those too.

“Also of note, even though I figured it’s probably already known, is that the timing to set up the unblockable is different for different characters. i.e the same recording that worked as an unblockable for Guile and Chun Li did NOT work as an unblockable for Sagat… so I had to re-record.”
…I don’t know if anyone brought that factor up yet but it definitely is a factor. For instance…
I used this particular setup/recording against every character both stand-blocking and crouch-blocking. It only works on Sagat and Cammy while she stand blocks (the ultra will whiff her crouch-blocking… but she still eats the fireball). What I noticed is that every other character except Blanka got up from the throw much quicker and seemed to be able to stand and go into a blocking state before the Fireball was able to overlap. Blanka actually got up much later and was still in his getting up animation by the time the ultra freeze started in this recording.
Afterward, I tried recording different timings for different characters for this setup but have found no success so far.
This is because Cammy and Sagat wake up 1 frame later than everyone else. Blanka wakes up two frames later. This will have to be tested again in SSFIV though.

This was the best I could do, I tried the forward throw, back throw and all kinds of various set ups but no dice. It does work for Chun Li but as you can see the player has many options for escape because it’s not an untechable throw or sweep.

Whew just finished, I tested Sagats Unblockable on all characters and YES I had to re-record for specific characters. Hitboxes varied for these groups of characters vs. Sagat’s Unblockable:
Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, Guile, Blanka, Sakura,Vega El fuerte, (Claw) Akuma *
Bison (Dictator), Rufus
Viper, Rose, Balrog (Boxer)
Abel, Sagat
Seth, Dhalsim
Zangief
Fei Long

Part 2:
It’s funny with Akuma because if he’s hit with the unblockable he recovers faster and is able to block Sagats Ultra. Enjoy the videos, I worked all night on them.

do you do the reversal ultras before or after the ultra flash???
Ken’s unblockable is ridiculously easy to pull off on Sagat. Just do that shit as fast as possible. Did it 5 times in a row.

anybody??? i’d really like to know!!!
It has to be before, you have to guess pretty much. Once the ultra flash occurs you’re hit by bug-eyes and getting hit by the fireball.
Good shit man. The main thing I’m curious about is that FADC you did with Chun? Wouldn’t that possibly with everyone? If not why? Also have a good rest!
Hmm, Guile, Sakura and Sagat being unable to escape Seth’s don’t count as truly unblockable?
I’m not sure if “truly unblockable” was Seth’s worse or his(the guy who wrote the impressions). Also Sagat and Sakura can’t srk out?
Guile and Sagat can escape by backdashing and eating the fireball while airborne like some other chars. I don’t know if it was only for the timings that I used or not, but they’re not completely trapped.
For Sakura on the otherhand, I still couldn’t find any way out of Seth’s setup.
@Worm: Sakura and Sagat’s SRK/EX SRK still leave them on the ground during their startup, so by the time Seth’s Ultra hitbox reaches them, they are not airborne and they still get caught by the Ultra. At least I think that’s what’s going on from watching it.
Oh shit, really? Not a total escape from damage, but at least it saves you from the ultra. Good shit.
Poor Sakura though
