an ultra can definitely share the same charge as a fireball, the question is if F instead of DF works for guile’s ultra, and if not, is the leniency enough so that you can do df, f +p and then db, ub +kkk and have the ultra activate even though you added the extra f input.
The thing is, apparently chun’s only works if they don’t tech, if that’s the case it’s probably due to the charge and the timing. and it’s probably the same for Guile too. But then again, Guile recovers faster.
you can press Charge DB, DF~UF, DB, UB~Uf to do Guiles ultra, shot that should be no problem. Probably won’t work with U2 though, as it is a projectile, and SSFIV seems to cut down on supers/ultra projectiles that can be performed with a projectile on-screen.
I’m curious if I have the defensive options right here. Sorry if some of these are totally off. I haven’t tested the set-ups myself mainly because I’m just not used to the characters that have them.
You get into an untechable down, someone puts a fireball over you. You can.
Hold DB before the flash. This will cause Sagat to whiff, anyone else you will eat an ultra because you were blocking before the flash. Holding back would just let Sagat hit you,.
Hold DB or B after the flash, same thing? Dependent?
Wake-up Invul Frames, this would be after the flash because you’re not stood until after the flash, right? (This apparently won’t work against rose because her shamwow ignores the frames or whatever?) or is it too late by the flash? You just need to guess if the ultra is coming or not?
Back dash to eat fireball, this would avoid Ken I think, though it feels like everyone else would combo you. Is this about right?
Backdash is probably your best option vs Seth’s backthrow unblockable, but some character’s can’t do it depending on how the SB hits. If you can’t backdash, your only option is a reversal who’s invincibility frames matches our has more invincibility frames than Seth’s ultra has active frames, or that brings you up over Seth’s Ultra’s hitbox. If you can’t do neither of these, it’s guaranteed. Maybe if you have a special move that makes you airborne on the first frame, but I don’t know if one of those exists.
I’m having the hardest time replicating that video. The timing is so tight.
There are also some setups where if you leave the stick at neutral before the flash, and start blocking during the flash, you can block…but, if try blocking before the flash you get hit.
So, it may not be the standing attack that’s doing the trick, but simply not blocking pre-flash.
Whatever’s going on, it definitely doesn’t work on every set-up.
Here’s one of Cammy against a Rose dummy.
Staying neutral definitely doesn’t work at least not in this matchup, and it’s not in the video but I didn’t get mashing an attack to work.
However there is definitely character-specific timing at least on this one. Using this timing I started out with against Cammy, only she, Dhalsim, Sagat, and Balrog (though Balrog could escape by stand-blocking) would get hit. Blanka would still be facing away by the time of the ultra flash and be able to block afterwards. The rest of the characters would be able to block the projectile before the flash.
i was thinking about the possibility of him timing the rose after the cr.rh. There’s a ton of time while they are in the air, and it might give you enough time to throw the rose, recover and allow the rose to put them in hitstun/googly eyes for the ultra.
after a throw might work too, but he may also have possible setups after his juggles. i’m not sure if the rose is fadc-able, but it’s said to be used as a meaty on wakeup in the corner after an untechable and then allow you to followup with mixups, so you should have time to use it.
