I Just came here to say Chun li fucking sucks. I hope she gets better and get something to use against these crazy overpowerful millionhit combo characters. I quit playing AE cause I dont like playing games with an uphill battle. I have a good 6k bp and 2500pp. I lose 99% of the time cause with chun li you have to be on your A game 24/7. Ppl like cammy can just land 2-3 combos and can win. So people who play with cammy. Fuck you. You’re not a good player. Lets see You play with the less fortunate characters. Prolly get your ass whooped. Now i know I could be like most and just pick the top 5 characters and have a winning chance but i refuse! Anyway. Thats my rant for today. Fuck AE. Cant wait for Ultra. Cheers
People don’t complain about Yang’s command throw - cl. MK - dash - U1 because it doesn’t happen often at all. The execution is much more difficult to pull off because there’s a one frame link involved after the command grab and even the dash U1 part isn’t exactly easy to pull off. I haven’t once seen even Nemo or Ojisanboy go for it over st.HP which is a safer two frame link and leads into dragon kicks or U1 with two bars.
Karakusa to U1 is much much easier to pull off and that’s why you see it so often and why it’s complained about.
I think there’s been a long standing bit of scrub mentality regarding Chun in the 3s community. unless these guys are playing against the top echelon of Japanese Chuns I don’t think they should really be complaining, because they haven’t actually experienced what makes Chun cheap. most of these dudes who complain just get bopped by basic back fierce and kara throw Chun and rather than realize that they’re not as good as they thought and that their ground game needs work, they say “don’t be one of those Chun players.”
IMO we have one great Chun player in America now, and maybe had three ever. there are a lot more strong Yuns and Kens in the US. I’m not saying she’s really hard to play, but rumors of her being braindead easy are really exaggerated, and most of the people who complain about her are not particularly good at the game.
For some reason the arcade machine at ufo makes her voice sound annoying as hell, different from that youtube video. I dont think it was the same girl, but in 3S the characters speaks Japanese all the time not english, so maybe it has something to do with that. Plus if it is the same voice actress she would be 9 or 10 years older by the time 4 came out. Oh well.
Funny this changed from the boring mechanics in Ultra to the death combos in 3rd Strike…
I hope Chun Li gets massively buffed in Ultra, shes been in the dog house for too long in that series. All because she was the Goddess of 3rd Strike, a game the vast majority of 4 players have never played, and thus wouldnt understand why people hated her.
So then what is it that makes high level Chuns cheap?
For me like most people it isn’t losing itself but how you lose. However for me, it also isn’t winning itself but how you win. In essence what it means is that…most games have a character that is considered “super cheap” cause of ambigious shenanigans, braindead playstyle, or just being too good at everything. It isn’t fun for me to play and win with those characters. Here are the examples I am aware of.
ST: Claw (Vega)
3s: Chun Li
SF4: Seth
Darkstalkers: Talbain (Gallon)
Blazblue: v13
SFxT: Nina
KOFXIII: Mr. Karate
Last Blade 2: Kouryu
MVC2: Sentinel
Chun just has great normals and a great oki game, and gets a lot out of buffered parry. the holy Chun trinity just gets more out of her than everyone else. just a mixture of great fundamentals, ability to play aggressively, and mastery of the tech that pushes her over the cheap edge. I haven’t played any of the three Japanese Chuns but I’ve played the best American Chun a couple sets, and it was an eye opening experience.
but really I’ve just played against too many bad Chuns to believe she’s easy to use. a lot of dudes would rather complain about really simple stuff than figure out how to beat it. IMO Chun only becomes super cheap once you hit a certain level, and the vast majority of American players have never played anyone that good.
That EX Spinning Bird is shockingly good online though. But I agree, a majority of Chun’s just throw shit out there and have no idea what they’re doing.
Play who you like regardless of who’s getting bitched about the most… because people will still bitch no matter who you’re playing as.
As long as you’re not having a shitty time, fuck 'em.
Sometimes the characters I play end up at the top, sometimes mid or pretty low (I don’t think I’ve ever mained the worst characters though).
