Makoto’s command grab is A) really punishable on whiff B) Has a ton of startup frames C) Has less range then most regular throws. It’s very situationally specific.

Slow start up IDK and don’t care what the frames say and less range again idk about that. In the second game valle jumps back from a command grab too, but no punish.

Valle was too far away for being able to do a punish. But he would have punished him, if the grab whiffed in close position.

I never said he was using it constantly, he busted it out twice. Lol and I doubt he browses here. Not like you’ve ever been salty, right? My point wasn’t how ridiculously hard it is to avoid her grab, just that it seems a little over powering that she can go straight into ultra from it. Again, I haven’t been playing long but still seems ridiculous, and beyond that how easy some ultras are to land.

And it’s a 5 frame start up for an EX command grab. What an incredible amount of start up… I agree 47f is ample time for a huge punish but you’re acting like the command grab is easy to avoid when Makoto can just dash up and bust it out like s0lid_snake was saying.

I agree that it is really potent, I just don’t think that it needs to be nerfed.

I wouldn’t say it needs to be nerfed either, it’s still rage inducing though. I can’t deny that I’ve stolen a few rounds from people with my expert demon skills (wink), ESPECIALLY at a time when I really relied on them to pull in some of those wins, but really my point was some ultras are just stupid easy to land compared to others. It’s worth mentioning that Makoto match had literally happened maybe 30 minutes before I made that original post so the salt was still fresh in my eyes.

You know Makoto’s command grab isn’t invincible,right? You can also grab her out and against her dash just spacing with normals like cr.mk into tatsu or a simple st.hk. Besides of it,the match is even,stay chill.

Fair enough but that doesn’t sound very ideal. yeah if you’re already attacking then she’s out of luck or if you have good reflexes, but that still doesn’t mean it’s not an extremely easy way to land an ultra. again, that was my main point of it all and relevant to the post I was quoting in the first place.

For an intermediate player command grab into ultra must be quite annoying, but really it’s not an overpowered thing in this game. Your complaint is the evolution of the beginner complaint about throws being cheap.

Not necessarily. I believe delayed wakeup is to throw off the timing involved in post-knockdown set ups, but not actual meaties. Delayed wakeup should just mean you stay down in the “lay down” position longer. As the animation for the opponent getting up starts though, most experienced FG players will naturally know when to meaty based on that animation, so meaty EX DP or meaty attack xx EX DP for chip should still be viable. This also applies in the delayed quick-rise that’s already currently in the game.

its something we all go through, just remember everytime she does a command grab you can neutral jump into a huge combo or raw ultra doing just as much or more damage, you can mash on backdash too or srk fadc. but the main thing is knowing the matchup well enough that you recognise ahead of time when the command grab mixup is coming, you end up knowing that in x situation they will either meaty me or command throw and you simply pick your play and see who guessed right.

Well, with the delayed wakeup mechanic in place, meaties will be the SHIT - mark my words.
I see characters like Akuma or Ibuki dropping in the Tier List, but then you have characters like Cammy and Rufus who can repeatably divekick as a frame trap for massive payoff still.

Vortex characters will fall, Heavily Defensive Charge Characters (Barlog, Honda … etc) will get much stronger since it’ll be significantly more difficult to mix them up with so-called setups that are timed properly to beat or block the reversal in time (noting that it’d only happen if you were to read whether its a delayed wakeup or not.

Overall, its good to balance up the gameplay … but I feel as though the overall gameplay itself will get more dull since there simply aren’t as many great meaty options there are in Street Fighter as opposed to say … Persona or KOF.
