I’m saying that his statement doesn’t make sense. If DWU is Adon’s biggest nerf, it implies that it’s harder to score damage. Why would he say this means that the game is not slower paced? Remember, Adon got a bunch of other nerfs as well but he says DWU is what hurts Adon the most. And the nature of DWU means that it causes you to lose offensive momentum, which implies there is more time on screen where nothing is happening, which implies less tension (what other forms of offensive momentum are there really in SFIV anyway?). DWU also means less damage opportunities, which means it’s harder to score damage, which means that matches take longer (DWU works the other way as well - it’s harder for opponents to get damage against him).
How? The nerf to knockdowns doesn’t emphasize fundamentals, it just forces them. But footsies aren’t very strong in SFIV to begin with. That’s one of the game’s biggest issues.
Look at Rose for example. She got buffs to her zoning, her footsies and her combo damage. These are good things. But, she didn’t really have an oki game to begin with. So from her perspective, yes, the pace of the game will be faster because she gets more damage from various situations. In fact, given the buffs to her damage, it means that everyone automatically has 50 less life against her (on average) before the round even begins. Again, this is a very good thing. But, why not give EVERYONE the same treatment? Nerfing knockdowns doesn’t automatically buff footsies. To buff footsies you need to actually explicitly buff footsie tools. From what I can see, Adon’s overall footsie game was nerfed, not buffed.
So no, I can’t see how forcing footsies and zoning (which is implicitly a slower-paced strategy) compensates for the nerfing of oki.
Wow. Adon is less threatening now on wakeup. I can sense the tension in the game already. Yes, I can see how this means the game is the same as AE.
Just because English isn’t his native language I’m sure he has the intelligence to know when people say the game felt slower it doesn’t mean the game engine literally got slower.
If anything he knows some Japanese as well and probably discussed with the players about the game as well
It’s called blocking on wake-up, a novel idea is it not? You got knocked down because you got out-played, now you have to guess, that’s how it has pretty much always been and how it should be. You should be rewarded for scoring a knockdown and punished for being knocked down. The only problem with oki is how weak grounded oki is in sf4, making it a one-sided benefit for the vortex characters. Not saying that everyone should have ibuki-like vortex, but the rest of the cast could have a least some more reward for scoring a knockdown. Deal with the fact that you have to guess and stop whining
I tweeted air about the Cody thing, I really wonder what he means by “really fast now”
My guess is that the “but contrast” means his backwards walk speed still sucks. Which frankly was what I wanted buffed more than forwards BUT I’ll be happy with ANY walk speed buff.
Here is the thing, Cody’s animations can actually make him seem much much faster than he is. I made this video to show you.
In the 2nd showing Cody has the EXACT walk speed of Ibuki yet he seems to move much faster than Ibuki because his animation LOOKS faster than hers does. The reason I chose Ibuki is because the difference between Cody’s walk speed and Ibuki’s walk speed is basically the same as the difference between AE2012 Ken and USF4 Ken (arcade version). A 10point increase aprox, though for Ken it was basically reversed from what I did to Cody, Ken got 0.06 forward and 0.04 backwards while Cody got 0.03125 forwards and 0.0725 backwards.
The difference between Cody’s 0.038 and a walk speed of 0.04125 appears far more dramatic than it actually is.
It’d be a HUGE help because so much of the cast walks 0.04 backwards or faster plus Cody has trouble with 0.035s too (It would take Cody 1000F (16.6seconds) of constantly walking forward to catch up to an opponent with an 0.035 backwards walk speed if the stage didn’t have walls. (thankfully there ARE walls and that 0.035 walk speed char hits it after only 2.6 seconds) [edit: forgot to clarify, I mean from the position both players are at the start of the round]
I still think DWU is shit, but it doesn’t affect Gief too much.
It’s damage without the guess, the threat of super isn’t as good considering that you’re giving away 4 EX GH’s in exchange of a read, with U1 it’s ok since that’s the only use that meter has, but with Super it’s not. You use the same 4 meters in exchange of 50 less damage if you do it from one jab or short without having to guess, that’s great since we finally get good damage without having to do a hard read or punishing a mistake.
I haven’t seen any Makoto players using red focus that much. I remember seeing on the Makoto forums that theoretically you could EXRF her cs.HK into hilarious damage. Still waiting on that.
I posted some EX RF stuff in one of the ultra threads (either this one of top 10 thread, can’t remember). However I think the main reason you aren’t seen much in the way of EX RF stuff yet is twofold probably.
Players still getting the hang of figuring out when best to utilize EX RF. This is a universal thing that everyone is still feeling out.
and this is the big one:
Makoto NEEDS meter to really be effective. All of her decent combos require meter. She can do solid 200ish damage without meter but she needs meter to really play her game. She needs meter for EX Fukiage combos mid screen. She needs meter for her EX Hayate - LP Fukiage combo in the corner. She needs meter for her EX Hayate to break armor. She needs meter to be able to combo into her Oroshi (EX Version). She needs meter to finish her combos (EX Fukiage - MK Axe Kick - EX Hayate or EX Hayate - LP Fukiage - EX Axe Kick).
Because of this, the concept of saving up 3 bars as well as the concept of SPENDING 3 bars is a big deal for her.
Yeah, I don’t understand why Gamerbee said EX RFC is good for Mak. Beside being a way to combo into U2, meter is better used elsewhere. With the ex fuki buff, she probably become the character that require the most meter in the game lol.
