Even the linear offense is kept. The message appears as you recover from the move, so most safe jumps should still remain, you just whiff a move with 11 frames or manually time it, I dunno.
I’m pretty convinced they just put this in the chance an unblockable was found, because so far it’s pretty clear that okizeme will be the same (canned setups all day).

If you need to jump immediately, you can’t because are no 11f frame kills. Timing it manually is very hard if you need to be within 1 or 2 frames.
For those who can alter their timing with 11f moves, nothing changes because they can see the DWU message so early. So the change is essentially useless and only serves to annoy players, gimp characters and slow the game down even further.
If you’re thinking off setups that require an immediate jump (ie: ryu’s sweep, cody’s backthrow) then you’re probably right, but I’m thinking of the majority of setups where you dash (xN), whiff a normal, etc.
In these cases I’m pretty sure it’s as simple as changing the whiffed normal and this might even open up new ambiguous stuff. I believe since the corner game is the same the fake crossup stuff still remains.

That’s what I’m saying. Setups that require this amount of arcane trickery are usually the strongest (high/low + left/right, or unblockable), and because they give you so much time to jump, players are most likely going to find alternative setups to accomplish the same thing. So this change accomplishes the opposite of what it was supposed to.

That was just the short version. I was referring to characters who can’t do much without oki. Sakura doesn’t need oki because of her crazy combo damage. Characters go don’t get much from footsies or zoning are now going to struggle to pressure the opponent, push them back, get meter and score damage. It’s going to be this dumb boring game of hit and run every round. Which is fine if your character relies on that style of play because you probably have tools to compensate (eg. Honda, many charge characters). For the rest? Ultra Snore Fighter IV.

ilitirit, what characters specifically are you refering to? Cody/Dudley/Grapplers? If we agree that people will just find other setups…I can’t see any particular character that gets fucked up. DJ whiffs a cr.hp after throw on normal wakeup? Just whiff a cr.hk on dwu, I dunno. Everyone’s oki is still there.
(side note cody’s upclose offense might be slightly better because of their lazy ass solution to focus tech)

Watching all this ultra footage made me realize I’m turning into those old grumpy conservatives (particularly funny because I’m an '09er).
I hate all the new characters, stages, and a lot of the changes like ken’s cr.mk, giving a chainable 3 frame move for gouken, dwu, 1 damage command grabs just piss me off.

I think Rolento will cause a lot of timeouts and extremely stupid gameplay, Elena looks annoying as fuck and Poison could have solid gameplay, the latter 2 having EX Overheads that can be combo’d from sounds stupid for online though.
Personally I’m pleased with most of the universal changes and such, but DWU and the way they slaughtered Seth leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Can Cammy still do her Sako combo’s?
