It’s implemented right in a secret $30 expansion pack with a complete character rebalance. This is the real thing. The amount of buffs is insane, I tell you! Increased walk speeds across the border. As an extra, the expansion disables DWU so you can safejump people to your heart’s content. KOF mode will also be playable on- and offline with one player controlling the entire team. Input shortcuts have been toned down, and throw techs require people to stand. They’ve eased FADC inputs, too - all you need to do is to input the next move and it just does the cancel! Imagine that! No dash-out wonkery anymore.

EDIT: Charge times have also been reduced from 55f to 30f, making charge characters much more enjoyable and fluid to play.

That’s exactly the problem. Characters with strong Oki options can simply adjust and continue, while characters who relay on HKD for safe-jumps and non-loopable mixups can’t do anything.

Basically, vortex characters can still run a train on everyone else, while everyone else got shat on.

Even if they do figure out alternative setups for everyone (very unlikely), it just means that DWU was a complete waste of time.

Funny thing about DWU is that I could get many new setups after some HKDs, where it wouldn´t be normally possible to do this. Or even things like a safe 15 sec oil(instead of 10 sec), if my opponent uses DWU lol. So using DWU might be in many situations even a very bad idea I would say.

Compensation non-buff?

@jli akuma has other stuff to fall back on, and it seems we will be able to get more setups to deal with DWU. A lot of other chars won’t be able to do that, some of whom have safe jumps that are now fucked, apparently. So while it will make things more difficult for Akuma, it’ll be more difficult for other chars.

Yeah its an odd trade makes akuma/cammy/seth slightly easier to defend against but wrecks some characters offense.

Edit: I guess those characters will have to have two sets of safe jumps and either guess or do normal get up safe jump and go for meaty pressure afterwards. So I guess their offense won’t be THAT much worse but it definitely cools down the OS game.

DWU is just a option to make the person on offense have to think instead of going into auto pilot safe jump, or “unblockables” etc etc… Its not suppose to be the end all be all. The only way DWU could have really shut down all forms of vortex is if you could hold and release it to rise when you wanted too.

But quick rise mixed with delayed wake up and normal rise makes the waking up in this game no so free, more so for some characters than other.

Also I think characters who had good soft knockdown oki who got buffed footsies are going to beast this game (I’m looking at you ken and your new godlike c.mk holy shit its good 0_0). I think Yang really benefits as well. Watching Kindevu play yang, that st.mp buff really makes a huge difference.

DWU applies only to hard knockdowns…so its not gunna be mixed with quick rises anytime soon

and lets not forget Viper’s BK vortex is intact

The timing for certain crossups can be done so that you can cover DWU as well as the non DWUs. Fuck DWU I will still jump, my mixup game is too strong.
