EVERYTHING THIS GUY SAID

Just don’t want online warriors to have access to broken characters, or else endless battle will be a snorefest… But ranked having them banned is a no brainer.

It could be a seperate online mode like Tournament and Team Battles, you can always choose not to play that mode and stick to endless and ranked. Unless you’re against players having the liberty to play Edition Select online.

Think of how much of a minefield its going to be playing online? I think this is horrible for casual players, but the more hardcore will give it a chance to experiment with. People are already like “what?” when i explain to them there are two versions of characters in Super Turbo. Explaining t oa new person there are up to 5 versions of a character in one game, theyll probably so overwhelmed they wont want to play. This will make another game where Old Bob Sagat is top tier.

I’m betting there will be some shits n giggles matches in the first month or so then nobody will touch it again.

Doubt it, a feature like this would be just be too fun to use for trolling if it were to be apart of regular Ultra endless and ranked matches. (which for obvious reasons is probably not going to be)

Do people actually care about ranked?

idk – might be fun to have edition select standard. Hyper SF2 did it just fine, and they used that in tourney settings.

return of the frauds: vanilla ryu and vanilla sagat.

Nope. Tiger Upper - Ultra = 530. Tiger Upper - F+HK - Ultra = 630. You need to do something like clsMP - TU - F+HK - Ultra to break 700.

Take out ultras and most characters actually did about the same damage (maybe only SLIGHTLY less) in Super as in Vanilla. There were outliers though and those were the big deals. And that is only counting Super edition changes. AE/AE2012 pushes a couple of vanilla characters into high damage potential areas than their Vanilla counterparts.

These characters were basically the same (and in a couple cases BETTER damage) going from Vanilla to Super:

El Fuerte
Fei Long (10 dmg off his crLP hurt but that and his ultra were the only damage nerfs.)
Guile
Rose
Sakura (her MAX damage combos went down due to nerfing clsHP / crHP from 100 to 90 and her otoshi’s by 10 on first 2 hits. However her hit confirms went up because she gained a ton of new links in AE though)
Vega
Blanka
Dan
Dhalsim
C Viper

These 2 lost damage to an important move but overall damage remained the same:
Balrog (Headbutt lost 20 damage on MP/HP version and 30 on LP version. However this mostly affected his combo to ultra/super damage. Otherwise he was the same.)
Abel (lost 20 damage on all tornado throws weakens his mixup damage by about 10% otherwise and his combo to ultra of course got nerfed by losing 50 damage on ultra.)

Seth: Lost stun but not much in the way of damage. Actually in AE/AE2012 seth does more damage than he did in Vanilla thanks to the fact he can do close MP - close HP and his spin kicks got a damage boost in AE and do more damage than they did in Vanilla (Vanilla all of em were 20+100 in AE his LK = 10+110. MK = 10+120. HK = 10+130)
The only big loss to him was stun output on spin kicks dropped as they all used to do 250 but now LK = 100, MK = 150, HK = 200. But EX still = 250.

Cammy - This one is arguable. Her crHP, DP, regular dive kick, ultra AND super all got nerfed. However her DP gained damage when anti airing later to make up for it a bit (less combo damage for FADCs though). Also (and more importantly) in AE she gained a TON of new links that greatly increased her damage potential. Things like clsHP - crHP - crMK weren’t possible in Vanilla since clsHP was only +3F on hit. Also she couldn’t do crLK - crLP - crMP either or tons of other combos.

So that puts 14 out of 25 characters as basically the same damage or better in later versions over their vanilla versions. Now UTILITY wise it’s a bit more debatable. Since things like frame data adjustments and blockstun were affected on some of these characters. Viper for instance with burn kicks. However DAMAGE wise everyone likes to think that the damage was up there at Sagat/Akuma/Gen/ect levels when in fact it was far far less for most of the cast.

I’m so fuckinf scared right now D:

AS you may know guys, Edition selection is used in SF2 tournament (xmania & co).
You can play classic T.Hawk, or super T.Hawk. It’s your choice.

So where do you think it is going ? I think capcom will do the same in SSF4 : in tournament, players WILL be able to choose the character version.

I must say that if not, why do they bother adding this feature ?

This dude speak truth

People need to make a gif of the crowd shot when Online Tony was playing Valle and was winning.

So informative, he’s a legend. O_O

Ok, but what about SF2 ? This same feature is part of the game, and in tourneys it can be used, so why would capcom act differently ?
I’m just trying to understand here, not starting a trollol discussion.

I should’ve been more direct, because I was specifically speaking about the Strong Characters of Vanilla SF4, not the entire cast in itself. My numbers for Sagat were simply trying to pull back memory, however Uppercut into Ultra basically did over half an opponents life, which it obviously no longer achieves the same damage potential anymore. Hell, majority of everyones Ultra in Vanilla simply did more damage. Vanilla Sagat, Ryu, Gouki are going to have a field day in this Option. Even Rufus and Balrog would have fun as well.

YES VANILLA SETH IS BACK!! VANILLA SETH IS BACK!!!

Let’s be real. Edition Select will see absolutely no use in Tournaments. It’s going to be an Online “Just for fun” Game mode. Don’t kid yourselves that it’s going to see Tournament play.

Im hype for it none the less. Really glad they added this in

Balrog is actually probably better in USF4 than he is in Vanilla. The main damage nerfs he got weren’t that large:
Vanilla - Super damage nerfs:

His frame data is actually better in USF4 (buffs to dash straight/overheads altered.) and his close MP was buffed in AE (lost 10 damage but went from +2F on hit to +4F on hit, forces stand, and is special cancelable.)

The ultra damage isn’t even that much considering how it’s usually scaled. (even raw it’s a 28 damage loss, much lower than most got nerfed.)

The only characters I foresee REALLY making a splash from Vanilla are Ryu/Sagat/Seth/Akuma/Gen/Rufus/Zangief/Honda and MAYBE Viper. That is hardly “most” of the cast. As I said, there were heavy hitters and good stuff for a bunch of characters in Vanilla but really it wasn’t the majority of the cast. Even taking out the console exclusive characters who were almost unchanged from SF4 - SSF4 in many respects it’s still less than half of hte original arcade version that are particularly noteworthy in strength. The thing is that the ones that were noteable were SO far ahead of the rest of the cast as to practically leave them forgotten. I bet most people would forget El Fuerte / Blanka / Chun / Vega if they were asked what characters were in the arcade version of SF4 without looking it up.

i really dont get why peoples are freaking out, doesnt ST has the same feature ? every time i watch the tournament, players use ALL the cast ( even freaking Deejay ) , and there was way more stupid shit than in all SF4 brokefest and yet they dont care and just play

i might be completely wrong but IMO the fact that you can use unblockable on Vanilla/super/AE characters and them not having delayed wake up is a really huge deal , especially if YOU use an Ultra version of a character wich has buffs and delayed wake up

anyways i can understand that tournaments would run only on Ultra, but am worried about online, like if it will separate the players base between edition select and regular Ultra ,ther’s already few peoples on Pc :’(

you mad 'cus I be river dancing on YOH FACE
