How are you doing a counterhit trade outside of a fireball situation or maybe 1-2 normals that have counterhit state during their first active frame that shouldn’t be possible since counterhitting requires hitting them during the startup of an attack while a trade requires the attack to already be active.
It wont be the standard, at least not for a few years. However I wouldn’t be surprised if side tournaments are run with hyper style rules, even with it being console exclusive that could occur.

No because anytime there’s a “fun mode” it typically gets phased out overtime if its not the main tournament. I’d rather see Edition Mode ran first then switch to Ultra if edition is a mess.
If they did it your way, absolutely no one would use the Ultra Versions of the characters outside of a select few. That’s a waste. Let the Ultra versions get fleshed out first for a year, then move in with Edition Select.

Not really. If it gets balanced out, it wouldn’t be because of that. While having DWU is certainly a nice boon, they didn’t really NEED the extra Ultras or Red Focus. Consider how many Vanilla characters who are naturally superior to their later incarnations actually use their second Ultra much.

The question wasn’t if they can use them or not, the answer’s obviously no. The question is if it would balance them due to that loss. And the answer is also no.

By the time the year is up people will be too used to playing Ultra as the main game, Edition Select will be ignored and thrown to the side. That’s my point. Edition is more than likely to be a unbalanced mess so if it is it’ll be replaced asap. If not well idk. Ultra characters may be useful they may not be. We don’t know. Its less of a “gamble” to just run Edition first.
They can just run both, And see what the tourny players prefer.
