I’ll play Xrd too. I’m currently into +R as well, and GG was actually the main reason I went to SCR. I had only a few hours of AE practice since weeks before SCR so I couldn’t believe I got out of pools haha
lol Xrd is looking sweet indeed. Never played a Guilty Gear game seriously before but I’ll definetly give it a try this time. I’ll be amazed if I ever see some Venom footage from you guys.
But SF4 will remain my main game so hopefully Gen will remain worth of our dedication. Honestly I’m not too worried about Gen as much as I am about the game as a whole. Guile should probably be 8-2ing half the cast by now.
The way Gen is played will most likely go back to AE, when there was no vortex from HK Gekiro, and there will be a LOT of chipping game from roll I believe. Forward throw has a mighty long knockdown time so you can actually react to delayed wake-up message and whiff st.LP to carry on with your setup.
I don’t think you can react to the message and still do a jump setup. The message comes out pretty late. Did you tried it?
0 on block roll is sweet, but it still requires a lot of charging, and Gen is just so bad at down backing, I don’t know if we’ll get many chances to use this move.
Also, did anyone tried his supposedly nerfed focus attack? Now that could be a big nerf if it’s final.
If you do the “safe jump” setup (forward throw -> dash forward -> Mantis st.MP -> walk forward a few frames -> Mantis j.MK), the message shows up as you whiff Mantis st.MP. If you pay attention you can actually react to it and walk a few frames, whiff mantis st.LP, mantis j.MK instead of just walk and j.MK. At least that’s what I felt when I was doing the tests.
His mantis focus attack still hits absurdly far with kara, but you do have to readjust your max range.
Yeah with Kara it still should be good… still I wonder how much range he actually lost. That image Eternal showed earlier today still scares the crap out of me.
A bit late reply, but you can kinda see how much range you lost if you look at Xian VS Valmaster. I think it was in the first match when Gen focused Chun’s far st.MP and whiffed the focus. Pre-Ultra it should’ve hit her.
so now we have to rely o standing combo enders llol. so ending a combo with a roll is the in thing. although i find red focus fadc u1 as a pontential deadly tool
Final Changes for Gen, I cry and laugh at the same time
Mantis
Fixed a problem where he would have 1 frame of invincibility during wakeup. Fixed an issue where it was hard to do his focus attack on wakeup as a reversal.
Now has 950 stun instead of 900.
Close standing heavy punch now does 150+50 damage instead of 100+100.
Hurtbox on all of his focus attacks decreased.
Light, Medium and Heavy Hyakurenko have a larger downwards hitbox. Now have 1 frame more recovery.
Light and Medium Hyakurenko pushback on hit and block reduced.
EX Hyakurenko pushback on hit and block reduced.
Heavy Gekiro now gives soft knockdown. The button timing on his followup is now the same as his EX version was in AE v2012.
EX Gekiro is now -20 frames on block instead of -35. Now gives hard knockdown. Can no longer do followup if blocked. Timing on his followup has been changed to the same as his Heavy version was in AE v2012.
Zetsuei can now be combo’d into against airborne opponents.
Shitenketsu hitbox has been slightly increased forward. Now does 600 stun.
Crane
Fixed a problem where he would have 1 frame of invincibility during wakeup. Fixed an issue where it was hard to do his focus attack on wakeup as a reversal.
Now has 950 stun instead of 900.
Crouching light punch is now +5 on hit instead of +3.
Crouching heavy punch now sends opponents higher on counterhit.
Crouching heavy kick now has 24 frames of recovery instead of 29.
Angled jump heavy punch hurtbox increased downwards.
Angled jump heavy kick hurtbox increased downwards.
Light and Medium Jyasen are now ±0 frames on block instead of -3.
Light, Medium, Heavy and EX Jasen now have 10 more damage on their last hit.
I checked the Japanese note. It translates into:
Can be included in airborne combos
There’s also this note in Japanese one:
Wake-up: Fixed the issue in which it was difficult to do reversal focus on wake-up.
As I said before, according to a test from a Japanese player, Gen was THE only one who didn’t have reversal window for wake-up focus attack (the other characters all have 3~4f window for it) so it was hard for him to do wake-up focus backdash. He will be able to do it just fine.
So, those are some pretty good changes. Wakeup parry shoud become a bit more viable, I guess.
USFIV Gen is so weird right now, som many solid buffs, so many harsh nerfs.
