Ultra street fighter 4 gen changes

wow nice find.

the negative edge switch doesnt have to be pre jump. im pretty sure.

dunno how much use this has from neutral, but im sure you can make something crazy using mantis jump with crane cross up

if u plink kkk~kkk+ppp, hold PPP then jump and release PPP you get u r awesome crane jump mantis mk no neutral position needed… thx a lot guys , i got it !!!
you can for example do lk gekiro change stance hold ppp , jump crane release ppp mk very very practical …
PS:guess what non need to plink …just ppp+kkk , then hold ppp

5f(maybe 4f) safe jump after lk gekiro no quick stand:lkgekiro juggle med >jm mk>hold 2 until you see the crouch anim jNeutral
a good setup with jump mantis crane mk if they quickstand after 4 hit lk gekiro

One thing that really surprised me about that match with Itabashi was that Xian kept doing the mantis ultra in the corner when his only goal afterwards was to get out. I’ve always preferred doing the crane ultra when the super leaves me cornered, just because it changes sides; Xian put himself in an extremely bad situation going in to the final round of the second match, because he burned all his meter to take the lead but left himself in the corner, and he took a big (and unsuccessful) risk getting out.

My match with Itabashi wasn’t nearly that close though. I did manage to back him into the corner very easily, but he seemed very comfortable there. I used mantis s.HK a lot, and that’s probably where the majority of my damage came from, but I didn’t have any experience against this version of 'Gief and I got blown up whenever he made it in.

Anyway, the real reason I dropped in was the negative edge stance change glitch, because I personally hate it. I’ve known about it ever since the first time I played the location test, and I told Combofiend about it hoping it would be fixed. They were trying to fix the landing frame glitch but failed, and the new glitch they introduced instead actually broke my workaround for the landing frame glitch: I used negative edge stance changes for certain setups (like the back throw crane j.MK safe jump) to prevent myself from getting a stance change after I landed, but now if I try mid air NE stance change, I’d get a whiff mantis j.MK with the same setup. It’s also the reason that doing a crane jump and hitting 3P (to get j.HP and stance change at the same time, a habit I’ve had for years) produces mantis j.HP now. I’ve tried finding practical setups for mantis jumps with the crane crossup, I couldn’t find one that’s especially useful; Gen’s knockdowns generally favor the longer jumps, and I think the crane arc is more ambiguous anyway.

I never tried doing a stance change in my prejump frames though, that might be useful if it’s easy enough to let us do crane normals off random mantis jumps (NE is impractical outside of setups), but I don’t have my system with me this week so I can’t play around with it.

I prefer doing Mantis semi-safe jump after b throw. At least against shotos (the matchup I’m most used to – and most proficient at); it trumps srk, which the crane one doesn’t, and is pretty hard to anti-air. After f throw I also use mantis; I do st mp > wf > mantis crossup. I suppose against a character like Zangief you need to use the crane one, though.

Unfortunately the glitch that ugo introduced doesn’t seem to work for the first normal after an empty jump. I really thought and hoped it would … Still a good find!

you still have to wait out the stance bug lol

Yeah, I noticed. A shame they didn’t get rid of it …

Well at least it looks like they were trying according to what yeb said! maybe the next update will fix it? Tho I’m not holding my breath. However I can’t see them wanting to continue letting us use crane jumps like that.

I just want to say that negative edge made this technique much easier for me. Thanks ugo/street11.

Can’t wait to try this out in matches soon.

no problem bro. The salt is going to be real when they will swear mantis jump mk is broken lol.

Has anyone tried the negative edge air stance change to get teiga from mantis jump?

lol. that sounds broken and useful. let me check

EDIT-i cant get it on a negative edge

im not good enough with the pre jump cancel method, so i cant give a reliable test there

It doesn’t work for Teiga. Tested it extensively, I guess I have to learn to plink that stuff mid air lol. in case you didnt know you can get Teiga from mantis jump by plinking KKK with any punch button

Wow! I did not know this. Potentially very useful information.

Apparently there is a hitbox/glitch patch coming up. I think they’ll post another patch in due time and revert Gen’s nerfs or give him back the buffs that were taken out of the console version. Here’s to hoping.

don’t touch my TK u2 +5 on block crapcom !! i need it it’s the only thing left to the old man grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr …

They’re only fixing bugs and glitches for now to my knowledge. So dont expect anything to be reverted, they said it themselves they want to let the game breathe a little bit.

Which means that they might fix the air stance thing and the +5 ultra. Which will make him even worse.

Just putting this here so you guys dont get your hopes up.

Yeah, I know that. I just happen there will be another patch – one in which the nerfs/reverted buffs born from ignorance. Uh, if they remove jc U2 I will be mad as hell. If they get rid of that they sure as hell HAVE to make regular U2 connect on airborne enemies. Since the latter in a buff and therefore won’t be brought into this patch they just shouldn’t touch the glitch either.

Wow, it’s been awfully quiet here as of late. :,(

Eh, guys, what the fuck am I missing about the Rose matchup? It seems borderline broken to me as of now. Ran into a nobody online that I crushed for like ten straight games, then he picked Rose. Seriously, it’s so damn hard to get in on here with that backdash of hers. Combined with her soul spiral it’s hell. Not to mention her U2. Don’t take me for a bandwagoner whining about her because she won evo; it has nothing to do with this as I feel this way for entirely different reasons.

I’m not even exaggerating. The guy is pretty damn bad (keeps doing instant hp air attacks towards me resulting in me just punishing him with a quick attack as soon as he hits the ground, constant wheel kicks with Abel and so on …) and stands no chance whatsoever with other characters – I even perfect him every other match, but it feels like Rose can just backdash/spiral spam Gen to death. Another problem is that teching her throw mashing is almost impossible. I react to the dash but no tech comes out. It feels almost glitchy. Help?

And keep in mind I am definitely not jumping to any conclusions regarding the matchup as I have very limited experience.

Thanks, I actually never saw that match until now. Unfortunately it didn’t make me much wiser; this guy I versed used backdash and SS a lot more, and due to backdash being so great I couldn’t even apply pressure after a blocked SS. Maybe I should have started doing delayed sweep to punish his backdash; the problem is if the sweep whiffs due to iframes you will eat another SS. :frowning: Since Louffy doesn’t play like that I suppose there is a downside to it, but it seemed way too effective for that series I had.

Just like Xian I also mashed U2 after a blocked cr mp since they always cancel it into SS; too bad they can just activate U2 to heal the grey bar again, so unfair. :frowning:

So my main problems were:
Throws just couldn’t be teched
Slides that was seemingly poorly spaced had me thrown out of my punish
SS spam with backdashes on block couldn’t be punished

To be fair he ended up using other characters with decent effect against me later on, too. Strangely enough it was through a very unconventional style with constant backdashing and insane turtling by walking backwards and doing charge moves when I got close. That kind of noob strategy, but it worked, and he was harder for me to beat than conventionally good players. Very weird experience. Bison seems like a super bad matchup too, but it’s always been kind of bad, no?
