Just started playing Gen two days ago. Loving the character.
About the nerfs, was he really that good before? I didn’t start looking at his frame date till yesterday, so all I’ve been hearing are people saying he’s not as good in Ultra. I honestly don’t even remember any Gen players making big waves at tournaments since Vanilla except for Yeb and Xian. Granted Xian’s wave was pretty massive, winning Evo and all. Please don’t hate me if I don’t know someone you’re a fan of! Not a stream monster and I don’t really pay attention to tournaments that aren’t majors. :frowning:

Without the invincibility on LK waterfall, what’s his best anti air? I’m currently using crane cr roundhouse, EX waterfall, and blocking… are there any better options? I’ve been hitting mantis ultra 2 and crane super for anti air, but I’m asking about reliable normals and specials. I’m not finding a good answer for people that jump in for cross-ups.

Vanilla was one of the best, but his super version sucked. AE version was a lot better because of new added target combos, in 2012 he also got hard knocdown on h. gekiro.

In the worst and most impactful nerfs - super does less damage, l. gekiro looses invicibility (even the limited one it had), focus attack is worse, jump in’s nerfed, cr. mp damage reduced by 10, h. knocdown lost on h.gekiro. These are the most annoying ones If I hadnt forgot anything. I wouldn’t have minded these if they have kept arcade buffs, but fuck no. Let’s take away that because amiyu is doing to good and who cares about daigo being #1 with ryu. That’s obviously just player skill.

Xian finally lost to Momochi. Sadly making that crucial mistake with the accidental Jyakoha Super instead of Ryukoha in the second round. I truly believe that he could have won if that match went to the third round.

He did really well despite Gen’s nerfs and I was happy to see 2 solid Gen players in top 32.

saw Xian matches against Tokido and Momochi. painful to watch. I am tempted to hate and rage more

Yeah, right when he did it…I was like…Awww man! That was supposed to be Ultra!!(I’ve gotten accidental air super off crane double kick when I’m fully stocked like a billion times so I felt his pain). Yeah…if he had gotten what he went for with crane ultra 1 and still had super he definitely would have made Momochi pause a little I think. I just hope Xian doesn’t give up on Gen after to many loses he knows he could have won with 2012 Gen.
Fact of the matter is like we said previously…even if he had 2012 Gen…people have figured him and the character out so it’s waaay more harder to win with Gen at the highest level.

It WAS really hard to watch…especially Tokido. You could see that he was searching for answers and looked helpless. Had Gen still had HK Gekiro hard knockdown after an FADC, I think that would have calmed him down, and he would have had more time to think what his next setup would be. And he would have had more meter. He used all Gen’s meter just to get people off of him with EX Gekiro. Cr mp damage nerf really is horrible now…as you are working so hard just to get in for crap damage.

Even back in 2012 he was already in a losing streak for quite a few events (after EVO). Playing with a nerfed version of Gen just made things worse.

Gen is now forced to sacrifice meter for average damage from FADC combos and the fact that even if you land those you can’t get a hard knockdown makes things quite awkward (that’s not counting ex gekirou as a reversal). Capcom really doesn’t want Gen players to win.

EDIT: I found funny how Mike Ross was talking about how Combofiend showed him the power of U2 and when Xian finally lands it, Tokido just blocks the mixup and gets his whole health back.

Oh man. I laughed hard when Mike was talking about that. Like Ultra2 was overpowered unstoppable move or something(They will most likely nerf the pre-jump version of this this for the retail release now that Capcom knows about it). And yeah…that was degrading when Tokido got his healthback. But that just shows you that playing Gen is a gamble for literally everything he does… from combos all the way down to no guaranteed damage on his Ultra’s. Meanwhile Yun wreaks havoc for easy free damage on his combos(mp buff) to easy RFA combos to Ultra1 for big damage.

man… i almost cried when i saw xian totally hopeless against tokido … man fireball pressure in the corner and gen having absolutely nothing to get out … -_-

In my humble opinion mantis U2 thing should be fixed (at least the +5 on block) but for the love of god give something back. They propably think this is the holy balanced version and give 0 fucks about balancing it once again so I realy doubt it. They’ll propably just fix the bugs and leave it at that.

I wish I could get the arcade Gen. Oh well. One can dream.

I think Mantis U2 should just do real damage on hit.
My personal opinion on mix-up should be “should go for mix-ups when the situation is in my favour or is even, but if I’m in a dire situation I would just go for maximum damage to catch up”.
You usually get Ultra when you’re losing, and tbh it is not a good time to rely on mix-ups in a game with DWUs and reversals together, and U2 forces you to go for a mix-up otherwise you just gave the opponent free meter (and a free Ultra). But that’s just my opinion that Capcom doesn’t care about.
If you actually do wake-up U2, the opponent can just forward jump over and punish. But ppl wouldn’t care about that part :stuck_out_tongue:

I had that thought aswell. Maybe reduce damage a little bit like by 40 and we’re good. If you want to stun with that thing we’re talking about getting a jump in into fadc combo which does like ~500 stun then another ~500 from TC2 ex hands u2. If the next mixup hits hooray he’s stunned. But how likely are you to get that third mixup with so many defensive options in this game as you said street. And if he actualy blocks it and runs away you just build him a bunch of ultra meter to work with and wasted 3 bars. It’s better for sure but atleast when it was 600 stun you weren’t obligated to use so much meter.

I don’t like having to burn a bar of butter to get the hard knockdown for setups :frowning:
