Ultra street fighter 4 gen changes

Hey guys, I went out to the Nagoya location tests again today to test out the Gen changes in this build and wanted to update with a few things that I didn’t see included in the patch notes.

One thing in particular that stood out to me was TC2 xx HK Gekiro connects on the entire cast now.
And as noted in the patch notes, HK Gekiro’s timing was switched with EX Gekiro’s timing. So you can mash out HK Gekiro, but have to time EX Gekiro.

Switching stances mid-air and doing that stance’s moves while jumping is also still in this build, but I wasn’t able to put it to any use really. Most likely due to lack of practice with it.

Something I found a bit strange was I was dropping my cr.lp, TC2 link a lot. It could have been the machines, but the s.hp was not coming out unless I really delayed the hp input. Could have been me, though.

That’s about all I found for now. If anyone would like me to test something, I’ll gladly try to head back out tomorrow night and test them.

You’ve already covered the TC2 xx HK Gekiro…which I was going to ask. (Lol.)

But can you link a crane cr mp after cr lp like you can in the PC Ultra mod?
Also…another combo would be TC2 EX hands into link crane cr mp xx lp roll?

How easy is it to punish blocked cr mp hands now? (Isn’t it less pushback?)

How easy is it to punish crane jumping HP and HK now(I’m still very upset about this nerf)

Is it harder to FADC hands into standing mp,TC2 xx gekiro (wasn’t the hit advantage of hands reduced?)

All right guys, I’m going to SCR next week, which supposedly has an USF location test. I might not get much time considering that I’m entering 5 different games, but I’ll try to test what I can.

Right now I’m planning to test:

  1. Pushback after non-HP hands
  2. EX Gekiro hitbox (I heard it got swapped with HK Gekiro’s hitbox)
  3. Cross-up Oga from the corner (I heard midscreen ones are gone)
  4. j.HP and j.HK hurtbox (difficult to test, but I’ll try to do whatever I can)
  5. Mantis U2 comboability (does it still need kara after EX hands?)
  6. EX hands into sweep (does it work on Guile and Sakura now?)
  7. Crane cr.LP (is it even on block, or did the block advantage increase as well? tho this one is difficult to test)

Crossup mid-screen Oga gone? Do they hate Gen? Nerf to Oga, FA, hands recovery and jumpins … what the hell?! He’s just a mid-high character – no ****ing reason to nerf him. I’ll give them the benefit of a doubt, though, as I haven’t even seen what the new Gen is capable of. Also, red focus will help him as hands is armor breaking.

It’s only what I gathered from Japanese BBS, and some ppl said it was only unblockables with MK Oga that were gone, though some ppl say all cross-ups are gone. I’m going to make sure of this.

In that case they need to give him more than they have to make up for that. Love that they have buffed Jyasen, but that is only the block stun and not the recovery, right? If it recovered quicker instead (och blockstunning longer) it would be harder to see coming and make it a more valuable move to use to get in and start pressure. Also, HK Gekiro being mashable now does nothing to help good players – just puts training wheels on Gen. :frowning:

Hm, well, I’d like to have confirmed that Mantis U2 works as an anti-air and lands the animation on airborne opponents. Is the timing still strict for landing it properly? Also, is it only with full Ultra meter it stuns?

This might be a stupid question, but is (left corner) fake crossup j mk still there?

Is the improvement to Crane cr hp noticable? Can you follow up with Mantis Super? Do you need it to be counter hit?

Probably so much more I’m wondering about but I can’t come up with much atm. :frowning: But really, check about the Oga crossups, too! Thanks!

I’ll surely check Mantis U2 as full animation. I’m also going to see if crane cr.LK -> Mantis U2 hits full.

I’m pretty sure without full Ultra meter it gives stun too (just like Gouken’s U2), but I’ll check if possible.

I actually do not see any change that would remove those cross-up-land-in-front setups in the left corner. If I get to play with any of Adon Honda or Vega players I will try to test them.

I’m surely gonna test EX Gekiro as well. They kept saying it whiffs on crouchers and some of them suspect its hitbox got swapped with HK Gekiro as well.

I’ll check whatever I can next week on Friday or Saturday or Sunday.

They should just remove him and say that he died of lukemia.

Oh God no…Ex Gekiro whiffing on crouchers?! Because the hitbox got swapped? This is EXACTLY what that sounds like to me…and I pray to god I’m wrong.

This scares the living crap out of me. Are you kidding me?? This is like Dee Jay not being able to hit/beat out crouching meaty punches all over again.
They make us use meter for a reversal…and we can’t hit crouching attacks?!
WTF?

Unless they give lk Gekiro more invincibility frames, then that would be the only move that might hit crouching attacks…As it is now, that move gets beat sometimes by certain normals on the ground.

BTW Street…If you get the time…can you test the below at SCR?

I will surely test them. I’m also planning to test invincibility on HK and EX Gekiro to see if they got swapped as well.

All right. This is just day 1, but I played like 8 matches. This is what I found out:

  1. MP Hands have quite a small pushback. I wasnt able to test on shoto, but on Dudley I was able to link TC2 xx MP Hands into st.MK
  2. EX Gekiro nerf is reverted. He can do follow-ups on block. Timing thing didnt change. I wasnt able to complete it on hit one single time because my body just wanted to mash it out.
  3. Cross-up Oga exists (I tested forward throw -> walk forward -> LK Oga)
  4. Mantis U2 did not connect fully on airborne hit. It’s the same way as in 2012. There’s no need to kara Ultra after EX Hands.
  5. Crane cr.LP looks good
  6. TC2 xx HK Gekiro only works on several characters (same as in 2012)
  7. Midair stance change is still there. However, it is not possible to do Crane U2 during Mantis jump even if you stance change in the air (it might work if you plink, but i didnt test)

Also, it is just a feeling I got, but linking st.HP from Mantis cr.LP felt so weird. The timing feels completely different.

I hate to see what they have done to Gen, HP hands is still VERY MUCH punishable on block by alot of people. but if you could MP hands to stMK that means that Gen now has a meterless combo to sweep vs Deejay which is nice and possibly on Abel, Dudley and Rufus. but still Dont like new Gen.

PS. Xian was having issues with his BnB against the Chun Li player too (video in the Gen video thread)

Thanks for the update! God, that sounds ****ed up! I was excited to test U2 out, but I figured this was the case. Capcom just wants it to be absolutely useless. Is it a lot easier to combo U2 after EX hands?

not easier timing wise, just had the hitbox extended so you dont need to kara it on shotos

Wow, just watched the video of Xian vs some Chun-Li player in USFIV. Gen looks absolutely awful. Xian seemed to want to go for crmpxxlphands a lot and it just whiffed, and on top of that was punished by super/sweep ON HIT. Matchup looked extremely one sided, especially with Gen’s decreased FA range. Chun-Li basically owned the poking game AND had a ridiculously good aa that combos into Ultra 2. I was disgusted seeing that FT5.

And yeah. I’m extremely concerned for Gen now. The hands thing just boggles my mind as to why that’s being nerfed the way it is. I think Xian was caught off guard by that Chun Li,
and how strong her AA game will be in Ultra without charge. From looking at that, as it stand now this match might be in her favor.

Street11, did you played the USFIV mod for pc? Do you think his mp and ex hands matches the way it currently works on the actual game?
Cause Hands is godlike in that mod.
