Ultra street fighter 4 gen changes

Nerf on focus attack is not okay. Might have been if he got many buffs in other aspects, but not since he didn’t get buffed in general. Unfortunately, that’s the fate of the EVO winning character.

I think we might end up being rolling assassins (in a literal sense).

If you see my post I wanted for it to get nerfed but I wanted some pretty damn good compensation buffs. Ofcouse it’s dumb they just took away one of his best footsie tool threw in some pseudo buffs to his footsies and just said “you’ll be fineeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee”.

Maybe I just felt cheap hitting that focus, that’s why I don’t mind it as much but they sure fucked up when they just took it away. Lol guys slowly you’re turning me into a hater too.

Anyways do any of you look to pickup any of the new characters?

I’m not picking up any of the new characters. Maaaaaybe Rolento.

I like elena, call me dumb but I think she can beat guile, possible to heal yourself, slide helps against his fireballs, good long range focus, etc.

Trust me Gen Guile is now 8-2 in Guile favor

Not gonna lie, I trust you.

In my heart it was 7-3 before. Maybe it’s just because it was such luck dependant matchup, even if he was pretty fucked when you got in.

I hope no one is okay with the FA nerf. It would’ve been if they gave his neutral game buffs to compensate, but they didn’t. Gen changes are amazingly retarded – which is why I am not getting the game. Xian won evo due to great skill, luck and others not knowing the Gen matchup. It’s obvious that once Gen was downloaded he had a disadvantageous matchup against most of the competitive portion of the cast. Disgusting knee-jerk reaction pleasing nerfs.

We’re not sure if ex red focus will hit from max range and hands hitting only once, if they hit fully like in your video its better to go ex hands unless you want a confirm in which case it is a lot better to save it for super unless you need to finish the round.

footage of mantis FA still hitting from pretty far against fireballs @ around 13:50

It doesn’t look even nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Thanks for the video mike

ok. if you say so.

TBH, I don’t think that video is a really accurate display of FA range, because due to hadouken’s terrible hurtbox during the entire action you should be able to hit that out even with a Crane focus in that range.

Range on FA is awful compared to what it used to be. Vs Valmaster demonstrates that quite convincingly. Don’t know whether to laugh or cry over the mindless decision to nerf a mid-tier character.

no its not completely accurate. just pointing out it should still be viable at mid range vs fireballs

First off let me say I was and still am mad as hell at capcom nerfing gen in any way considering the buffs some other characters got
So don’t get me wrong, i’m not trying to justify anything (i’m f-ing furious for ANY kind of nerf to gen’s FA, even the slightest), but i’m just trying to understand what’s happening.
And after 4 years I’m still in rage for the mantis sMK nerf in the transition from SF4 to SSF4, just to be clear.

I know this is not 100% frame/proportion perfect and accurate but i think it’s not so distant from the real situation, I tried my best comparing SSF4 hitbox data with the footages from USF4

This somehow shows that what happened in those USF4 footages maybe or probably would have happened anyway before the nerf (and i didn’t really believed that), so i’m actually still looking forward to test the actual nerf on the focus attack when the dlc update comes out.

For akuma I am pretty sure this is accurate, his hurtbox at that point of the recovery animation doesn’t extend as far as I thought.
For chun, this is not as accurate since the FA was active a couple frames before my scan, but i’m pretty positive chun’s hurtbox wasn’t all that different

Conclusions:

  • Akuma’s hurtbox during fireball recovery at that specific moment had already retracted a lot.
  • Gen’s FA’s range in USF4 is still long enough to reach that (not as extended in recovery as it seemed) hurtbox, it’s not shorter, hopefully a bit longer.
  • Even before the nerf, the FA on ChunLi on that specific situation would have probably whiffed even if the nerfed FA looks awful in that video.

I just was afraid the hitbox had been reduced a lot more behind Gen’s hand. IT STILL SUCKS, but they could have done worse.

Thanks for the information Trapy, that’s definetly nice image you’ve put up there. I’m posting just to thank you because optimism in these forums seems like the biggest heresy. slides away into a dark corner

So, the latest batch of videos shows some of Gen’s changes. Super does 50 less damage, u2 does 450 stun, down from 600 from previous builds.
Not looking good for old man.
