I think people are lookin at the charcters of MvC3 from too much of an “on the surface” standpoint. Most of the “good” characters in MvC3 have a lot of tools that are never used by even the top players. Phoenix in my opinion is the 2nd most UNderrated character in the game(next to Viper) and if you seriously think that lvl3 XFactor is all there is to her then you are extremely mistaken. If you really take the time to explore her then you will discover how good she really is.
That being said. 1 special move in the air is hardly a nerf imo. She can still just normal jump, throw a shot, land, and throw another if she wants to zone or actually use her traps(which some characters already cant do anything about). People will probably rage even more in UMvC3 when they realize how stupid some of the “already stupid good but people dont play them because they’re too hard” characters are who got buffed because too many folks were on the braindead characters. Hell, all 12 of the new characters will probably all be dumb because they’re coming into the game fresh as they were intended without nerfs that were influenced onto the game by lazy players that want things easy.
I don’t know why people think that Phoenix lose her mutiple special action isn’t a huge nerf into her game. One of the reason why Phoenix is very difficult to prevent from becoming Dark Phoenix is that the bitch is actually on par with top 10 best herself. Phoenix can flight kara air-dash like Magneto to avoid your attempts of mixups, homing shots are like stalking flare, teleports can home anywhere on the screen, tk overdrive has godlike priority, her normals are crazy good. Her projectile super is like Joe’s cannon super but with invulnerability. To force her choose one action will prevent her from escaping mixups.
Think about it, if Phoenix super jump>fireball> and than drops…she is vulnerable to mixups. Especially if you can’t block when she drops, or you can’t move Phoenix if she drops. This would basically force Phoenix to use TK overdrive, her stomp, her teleport, or Flight Mode or Her super to avoid snapback mix ups.
Normal jump H shot is ass. The best way Phoenix players will find to get around the H shot nerf is to tiger knee H shot so they stay low to the ground while being able to throw multiple shots. Even normal jump H shot will get blown up by anybody with maneuverability unless she’s loaded with assists somehow. Especially with the slow start up you don’t even really wanna be neutral jumping unless it’s against a slow character with no teleport.
I’m fine with this. Even if “good” Phoenix players end up being capable of the same level - or even better - of harassment by adopting a tiger-knee method, that’s fine. Just by requiring the use of a technique, even a minor one, you’re creating a skill barrier, making it so that “bad” players will no longer be able to get away with the same bullshit they can currently pull off with her by just going super jump H.shot H.shot teleport lolololol.
I don’t mind a character being dominant if it actually requires skill and tactful use of the character by the player in order to achieve it.
So basically what you’re saying is that because other characters’ teleport moves, when combined with an assist, are more effective than Berserker Slash by itself, then Berserker Slash is fine the way it is? How does that even begin to make sense? Also, you can do the same thing with Berserker Slash too!
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the abbreviation for Berserker Slash is BS, haha.
People need to stop looking at X-factor normalization as a nerf, since it’s a goddamned fucking buff for most of the game. The damage bonus on level 3 X-factor in the SDCC build was somewhere around 90%, and speed bonus is no less than 30%. Morrigan noticeably does even more damag ein X-factor 3, where she had 160% before, Wesker does not deal noticeably less, where his was at 199% before. Wesker’s speed in XF3 is identical to current, and Morrigan wasn’t noticeably slower. Most characters ended up with a much better X-factor than before, especially Amaterasu.
Also, the Phoenix nerfs make me salty when they looked at alongside the buffs to other characters, system mechanic changes, and the assists the new character bring. I’m doubtful she’s going to be worth the risk of running at all the way UMvC3 is shaping up.
The only change I’m looking forward to is the loss of invincibility on Berserker Slash, and Swiss Cheese. Anything else done to Wolverine beyond those two is overkill, Swiss Cheese is the most amazingly hilarious character nerf ever, even if it turns out to be a viable move.
Day 1 of the old Sentinel nerf, people said that “he got nerfed into the ground”, “he’s awful”, “no one will play him now.” They had one day of experience or no experience at all. It’s no surprise their overreactions were wrong. It’s the same thing repeated again with Pheonix.
They did not take anything away from sentinel save for some health. He still hits like a truck and has all of his dumb armored normal moves. Apples and oranges much?
Not at all. My point wasn’t whether or not Pheonix’s nerf = old Sent nerf. I have no idea because I have no solid match experience to know and neither does anyone else. However, people do tend to overreact. That’s my point.
I heard rocket punch to plasma storm still works. Plus the HSF nerf only really effects random rocket punch into HSF. In a combo you can still do rocket punch into plasma storm or TK’d rocket punch into HD to push them into the corner then blow them up with extra TK’d hard drives or do another plasma storm.
