I’m sad for her. I’ve always liked the character and hate seeing her (theoretically) fall into ass tier. People say that it’ll just force people to think when you play her, but with her stupidly low health, anyone on the ground with a beam or beam super is now going to be able bully her into submission. And now she’ll be broadcasting her game plan in the air with having to use flight to do anything other than one move in the air.
lol, I’m not here to justify shit. I’m telling you what there intentions were. Do with that information what you will. Also, elaborate on parabolic anti-air. Other than that, I wouldn’t mind Chris getting all of that shit expect the air dashes, and only because I really don’t see how the fuck he would air dash. I mean, anything I could think of would end up looking stupid because it’d need a hitbox.
Besides that though, give everything else. Capcom’s roster could use a Taskmaster substitute who plays a more patient game. just now noticed the perma mine suggestion, but I have no comment on that. Some people get so ungodly pissed when projectiles don’t disappear when you hit your opponent, I never cared either way. As a matter of fact I ALREADY miss flame carpet and Ultimate isn’t out yet.
I was too tired to reply last night so I apologize.
You can make a game based around wacky ‘in your face’ action all you want, but it’s probably a good thing to give everyone those qualities and not just half the cast (As well as not stiffing half of those characters with recover time on a lot of their attacks and limiting their mind games/cancel options - Wolverine vs X-23, Dante vs Taskmaster, etc). Also, I’d like to add that Chris had an air dash in Beta. What they took it out for, I’ll never know.
As for Taskmaster… He already has to be patient with his pressure since a well timed Advancing Guard can put him right back out, so it’s a lot better just to play an arrow abuse game from a distance and convince your opponent to either air dash or teleport in so you can apply pressure safely with a Shield Skills->Aim of Hawkeye. Point is, you can’t really fly in with a Mighty Swing/assist like Dante/Wolverine/Amy and hope to find an opening. If their back is in the corner, that doesn’t really count either since everyone can apply pressure in the corner, even Hsien Ko.
I know MvC3 is meant to be over-the-top and that’s fine with me. But my question is, why is the general rule of thumb that characters with higher health are not over-the-top whereas characters with lower health are?
Chris having an air dash in beta was an effect of that there was a period in the beta where everyone had an air dash like in Guilty Gear. Which I assume they started moving things around because they wanted to vary the play styles of the characters a bit more and were probably also getting flack from fans who would consider the game too “anime” with everyone having an air dash. Same reason why the game has no burst system and very few defensive subsystems and those subsystems are easily worked around any way. Needs to be CHEAP ASS MAAHVEL.
I like that not everyone has an air dash though because it varies the play style between characters nicely and the game is designed so normal jumps are better than super jumps any way. Which means it’s very possible to effective with characters like She Hulk who don’t have an air dash and characters like Captain America with some buffs will easily gather more potential in Ultimate.
In general though I think the health to brokenness ratio is mostly warranted as a way to auto balance characters that they want to be able to do anything they want whenever they want. Capcom knows Marvel was about characters that had ridiculous properties and the quickest way to balancing such properties is simply making it so the characters that can do whatever they want whenever they want have less of a mistake threshold to do it with. Which it’s obvious that at high level play this does very little to stop people from playing those characters. Maybe Magneto only has 50 more health points than Zero but he sure gets used a whole fuck of a lot at tourneys. It’s been pretty obvious that literally the more people spend time with Zero the more stupid he becomes also.
I personally don’t think it’s the best way to balance characters either but it’s whatever. Most of Vanilla’s S tier includes characters that have no more than 950k health. These pretty much include characters that can basically just do whatever the fuck they want whenever they want. Ultimate will most likely have a similar balance where anybody who’s obviously just flat out cheaper than the other cast will be stuck with a low health threshold to keep them in some semblance of a balance. The only way for the game to not be like that would be to basically take the cheap out of Marvel and again…that’s not happening. Lower health characters usually get the cheapest shit. Capcom realized Wesker’s shit was too cheap for his health threshold and now he’s getting the nerf too.
Er, yes, exactly. Characters need tools to be good. The design of the game is such that health is not a tool.
I can’t believe they didn’t nerf Wesker’s health pre-Evo. I mean, everyone agreed he was over-the-top with his movement, normals, DHC potential, and everything else, so why the hell did they let it go on for as long as it did?
Lower everyone’s health to 950k, give everyone insane normals and some sort of unique ground coverage (Think Shield Skills and Amy’s :h: pressure), make it so that all projectiles are normalized (Start up speed might be slow, but projectile speed is fast to compensate), and fix Iron Man’s ****ing Photon Cannon start frames - I swear that’s one of the few reasons no one plays him even though he’s better than Ryu in almost every way. Wala, same crazy ass action, but now every character has it. Then we can throw this whole ‘lower health, less crazy shit they can do’ concept into the trash.
Proton cannon has 3-frame startup, broski.
It has 3 frame start up at point blank range for the melee hit, for punishing things mid screen that’s not the same as having access to a beam that actually starts up faster.
It would be nice if it had fast startup for the fullscreen.
I’m salty that phoenix got nerfed THAT badly, she’s all but useless now and having a greater number of useless characters in the game doesn’t make it fun.
What really needs to get nerfed is the overall damage in the game
She’s not useless at all lol. Dark Phoenix will still be wrecking shit. It’s just regular Jean can’t run away like a BITCH when she gets snapped now. Herp derp, I blocked one mix up, now jump back fireball x N>raw tag.
The good phoenix players aren’t complaining. If you play your cards right, the nerfs don’t really matter. If you didn’t just rely on jump back fireball x N>teleport, the nerfs don’t really matter. I wish DPX got those nerfs too actually.
Meh we’ll see, but i’m pretty sure giving a health nerf to the most fragile character in the game, AND making her far less effective, AND nerfing xfactor(which was a good nerf, even though some of i t got buffed) AND meter draining abilities added, is just way overboard and i’d be abit surprised to see her around much in ultimate.
Health nerf to a character like that is just extremely lazy. I mean hell you don’t even see dark phoenix unless you make the choice to kill off phoenix.
I don’t think that health nerf is going to make much of a difference, to be honest.
The number being tossed around at Evo was 100k, dropping her to 320k. That’s pretty much two hailstorms. Essentially, it’s low enough that a lot of welcome set ups become 100%s even when properly guarded.
I’m pretty upset about Zero’s buster no longer being a hard knock down. I don’t see why. He’s a really good character but his low health balances it well. Any team put together with decent DHCs will kill zero in one touch and 2 meters. He has long combos but his strongest bnb with even two assists will do around 500 k maybe. If you throw in a level three then you get somewhere around 800 k. He’ll pretty much have no cool combo’s in UMVC3. I’m pretty disappointed about that. But I’m still looking forward to the game.
His Buster still knocks down, what’re you complaining about?
THIS, like a billion times over. The fact that level 3 buster still causes knockdown means Zero will continue to tell hitstun decay to fuck off.
In fact, the buster can now come out after doing a special. So now Zero no longer has any unsafe specials, INCLUDING his command dash/teleport. He still has his fucked up disjointed hitboxes that outprioritize almost everyone and still has his small hitbox. I said it before and I’m still saying it now – Zero is going to be a lock for S tier in UMvC3.
Low health? Who gives a shit when the potential is high to kill most characters after one hitconfirm given enough meter.
Wasn’t Zero already S-Tier?
Lol, wtf is this shit?
If that’s the case dark phoenix is perfectly balanced. I think you’re trolling though…but still.
Another nerf that makes me wonder is the ammy airdash nerf, because i actually DO think ammy was just about perfectly balanced and can’t imagine why a character like zero got nice buffs when he’s far less balanced.
