Ultimate Salt - Nerfs you are looking FORWARD to in UMvC3

Oh yeah, I totally forgot to mention that Gamma Wave done repeatedly can kill an assist on it’s own, it’s great when the other person realises while they are locked in block stun, so they pull out a desperation hyper only to be met with Gamma Crush.

I could probably do with a bit of execution training, but I’m ok with most things most characters throw my way, I just really don’t like Doom, never have and I think giant robots are cool (who doesn’t?). I was considering switching Sent for Dormammu to use Dark Hole to absorb beams to enable Gamme Wave shenanigans against Mags and Deadpool and also for some nice combos, but I don’t think the Hulk value will be as high as with drones, though I actually prefer playing Dormammu.

LA!

As for Sent being pure assist, I kinda feel that way, but AA Hulk and Tatsu helps him out a bit.

Glad there is some Hulk love in this thread

Listen Mustache Man (Hulk PUN!) you make for a worthy adversary. While I, personally have never seen Chris’ supposed boulder punch (RE games scare me) I’ll take your word for it. However I have only four things to say…

Hulk. Strongest. There. Is.

Age 3 english or not… Hulk makes himself incredibly clear.

But how about this for the ultimate test of Chris v. Hulk. I’ll Gamma Crush with Hulk (because, you know, Hulk grabs a Space Boulder) and you can try to Boulder Punch it.

(Also you’re Chris’ Move-name themed rant sounded sexual in nature, so I ask that you please watch yourself. This is a family forum.)

Your move Mustache Man (I brought the pun BACK!)

Yes… yes he is.

Mustache Man has no clue as to what he’s talking about. Hulk smash. Real Strongest.

Edit: I can’t believe how much Hulk talk I keep generating by throwing out a “Hulk smash” here and there. People are really passionate about who strongest there is. I enjoy this.

Whoever said they can’t picture DJ knowing Hulk well is very wrong… He consistently passes my Quality Assurance checks.

After some testing, it’s my timing… you can grab somebody crouching.

OBVIOUSLY!

If you’re fishing… then I’m biting!

Here’s the rundown of it in spoiler form

[details=Spoiler]So there I was, Chris Redfield, stuck in a Volcano for reasons I can’t remember why. I look up and see Wesker standing there. He’s Super Saiyan now, and though he has new special powers, I’m gonna take him out anyways. In the meantime, my brother who was the chick, was forced to wait out the cutscene only to find himself hanging off of a ledge afterwards. He gets to mashing X to get back up and I start running around like a chicken with my head cut off. Eventually, I juke Wesker to be as far away from me as possible, and I come across… The Rock. That’s right, I said it. It was The Rock, Dwayne Johnson. He started calling me all sorts of names, and though Chris is a pacifist, I wasn’t gonna be having that crap. I pulled out my One Two and got to working on his physique, pushing that boulder like no tomorrow. After enough Jabs, Pushes, Lifting, and whatever option they gave me, I pushed the rock over and helped my brother across. We then beat Wesker and watched the ending.

Moral of the story: Paragraphs are your friend, and Chris Redfield punches boulders.[/details]

Only if I can cancel it into Satellite Laser

I’ll put it in spoiler brackets or delete it if you’d prefer, because even if it wasn’t meant to be sexual, everything Chris says can be taken that way far too easily.

Bring the Pain

I good sir am a comic book fanatic. Thor is easily my favorite hero, I picked him up on day one and I stuck with him. Besides who else has such cool quotes? “Buy Odins Beer.”

You know, this made me think of something, ESPECIALLY when you just happened to quote a guy whose name is Duck Strong.

Why the hell does Wesker’s c.M hit low? If you look at the animation, it’s more analogous to a crouching strong rather than a crouching forward. And last time I checked, crouching strongs don’t exactly hit low on a normal basis, especially when compared to crouching forwards. Wesker’s c.M is like Ryu’s crouching forward on steroids, except with an unintuitive hitbox for a low-hitting attack.

It’s because Wesker wants to make sure you will not survive. It’s also because he can’t rapid fire his c.L’s. Anybody who can’t rapid fire their c.L’s usually has a low hitting c.M.

Besides it’s Marvel. The game where everybody has cheap shit.

that’s the thing about MVC3 that should happen instead of making good characters shit. while ignoring the rest of the cast or pointlessly nerfing characters that aren’t as used is a bad move. What they should do is buff characters so they’re in the same league as Mag, Wolvie, Phoenix, Storm and Wesker. Morrigan she’s has a lot of tools and can easily make her high tier but nobody uses her because her damage is so slow. Hsien Ko is a legit char but her movement is too slow. Thor is at times slower then Hulk and that makes no sense at all because he needs to get in close. Basically the whole roster needs buffs, instead of just nerfing what they think doesn’t work plus since its less then a year since the game came out people didn’t have a real chance to find ways to combat the BS. The only nerfs I can agree with are the X factor and the DHC mess.

Hsien Ko is a legit character but nobody uses Morrigan because her damage is “slow”?

Most of the reason why nobody uses Morrigan is because she’s an assist character like Akuma that’s actually useful on point as anchor. You’re not going to get much mileage out of putting Morrigan first on point because the character wasn’t really designed to play that way. She only has one strong assist and that one strong assist is way too strong to put her first and not utilize it. Plus the left over meter you build when Morrigan comes out as anchor she can use for her own bidding. I tried using Morrigan on point but she just isn’t scary without meter and XF. Like Felicia she’s mostly designed to be ridden by XF and meter.

The issue with putting Morrigan last also is that you kinda are forced to set her up with characters that become strong and rather self reliant with meter and one assist because she’s not going to give your team more than one attacking assist. She works pretty well with specialized teams.

Thor is actually pretty fast when you learn to use his mighty strings and air dashing cancelled into normals. He doesn’t have the most intuitive set of normals but that’s mainly because they’re designed to set up command grabs any way. You have to build the team around him because he has no way of reliably locking people down or battling advance guard without assists.

I agree with Devil, I don’t quite understand why Morrigan is so underplayed. She’s great to get in and out with, and she can avoid being boxed in like any fly character. Sure she lacks the damage of Magneto, the DHC trick of Storm, and the instakill corner combo of Sentinel, but those are just minor features newer players wouldn’t know anything about. If you’re new to MvC3 (I’m talking completely new to FGs in general) and you see two busty half naked chicks, chances are you’re going to pick them eventually.

I understand that some people won’t like the playstyle and will drop both Morrigan and Felicia, but that still doesn’t explain why they’re underplayed. At the higher levels, they’re still useful (Morrigan for her assist, Felicia as Devil’s brother has shown as an anchor), and yet nobody chooses to play them except the occasional die hard Darkstalker’s fan. It really makes no sense.

Well played Mustache Man, well played. I prefer sentence fragments and elipses…

Also, this is Boulder v. Punch and Hulks Space Boulder is a boulder that is unpunchable.

Hulk smash! Hulk win! Hulk is strongest!

Side note: Why does it feel like we’re on the toughest version of Rock-Paper-Scissors ever? Boulder-Punch-??? = profit.

Edit: We’ll continue this when I get to work tomorrow.

Yeah… Instead of explaining the fight I probably should’ve just shown it to you.

The boulder in that video is roughly the same size of Hulk’s. Asteroid or no, he can defeat it.

Hulk wears shorts. Real men don’t wear shorts, they wear pants. Sentinel wears pants and uses a frying pan. Sentence fragments get ideas across better, almost like natural speech. They’re more concrete and to the point. Back on topic, Sentinel might as well wear an apron for how manly he is. Whether he out-'manly’s Hulk or not, we’re going need science to figure out. Chris has a Ph.D is imaginary science. After a few boulder punches on that space rock of he should be able to give you results. Sentinel is 2/6 on the scale of manliness. Wesker is -3/6. Amy is 1/6. For some reason Viewtiful Joe is a 32189372903721/6 - don’t ask.

Too many sentence fragments, making my brain hurt worse than when I wrote that half-assed RE5 explanation.

[edit] On second thought, if the proper structure of a sentence is subject verb object (Without looking over what I wrote) then there shouldn’t be even a hint of a sentence fragment in that post. But if we’re going to debate how well the sentences flow or proper use of grammar, then by all means it was crude.

(Geez, I work on something for an hour and then fall asleep for a mere 4 to 5 hours and the thread explodes.)

Lololol. Some people still think that Hsien-Ko’s a “legit” character? That’s she’s even anywhere near the same category of usability of Morrigan or Thor, who, though they both have problems, are actually threatening?

Haha. Keep living that dream, Bikke. Keep living that dream.

Speaking of Morrigan, I think the “main” problems with her are low damage (for the meter you have to spend), that so many ToD combos exist (or that most characters that can hit a person for every can kill them with the same amount of meter, such as Tron & Zero) and that she needs to be last on a team, which is a spot usually reserved for Phoenix (if you’re going to build that much meter and not really use it) or some other S-Tier that become herp-derp with XF3. I actually find her rather fun to play and I like fly/unfly stuff (which is funny, because I hated it with MvC2 Sentinel/hated because of that), she’s just…rather difficult to build a team around and I don’t like having to hit someone for like 15 seconds just to not kill them unless I’m in X-Factor.

I’m aware that people pick Zero, Tron and Sentinel (ugh) for valid reasons. I was merely bringing up the fact that people I find boring people actually use, even if like 95% of people that pick Tron for her assist have no idea how to actually play her–hell, even Justin Wong falls here because literally the only person I can remember seeing use her competently ever (on a stream) was Clakey D and I think I’ve only ever faced one competent online.

My point was that “boring” was subjective and even it wasn’t, there are still people who (try) to use Hulk beyond just mashing H, so obviously some people find some things about him interesting or entertaining even if you don’t. I thought everyone would have realized already, though, at least when that guy wanted them to nerf already not good enough characters because he felt they were too “simple” and fun to watch.

Right. Because watching Magneto do his rendition of “Stairway to Heaven (Gravity Remix)” for the umpteenth time is oh so entertaining.

…Are we talking about the same person? I didn’t/don’t/can’t watch the streams, but Seth is generally more knowledgeable than that. I like that’s rather subdued in his commentary though, so I guess it’s another matter of taste–I mainly quoted that because I find the comparison to Doctor Cossack hilarious when someone pointed it out.

Nah, I like them too, but I think the only person this game that works with is, what, Super Skrull? Maybe Felicia too, but I don’t like that character, so I’ve never really touched her. I think everyone else with a slow command grab either doesn’t have another low besides c.L like Hulk or their other low seem rather abysmal in speed like Thor’s c.H to the point where you’re probably better off empty canceling into a grab.

I’m probably wrong about this as well, though.

I’m assuming we’re talking about current Tron here and not the “They Stole EVERYTHING!” Tron that UMvC3 looks like it’s bringing us.

You forgot about me already?

HULK MEANEST THERE IS!

runs off crying while Hulk ending theme plays in the background

Speaking of that, I still say that Chris got shafted with like the worst Level 3 in the game. For the iffiness and (low) damage that it does, it seems like it should get a buff…but it probably won’t.

Yeah, despite having played Chris since the beginning, I still switch between finding everything he says annoying because I’m a prude or finding everything he says hilarious because it just sounds so wrong. A few characters have that problem, though, like Spencer and even Hulk–it’s weird how easy it is to mishear “break” as “rape” in this game; it’s rather amusing that for all the innuendo her lines are supposed to have, Morrigan is probably person who suffers from this this the least.

And yet I’d still have to say that Super Skrull wins the “mishear” contest between Meteor Smash and that the ground version of Skrull Torch…

haha im in tears oh man somebody buy these guys a drink seriously

does Super Skrull really say “He loves you INFERNO!!!”…i swear that exactly what it sounds like

It’s a code word referring to the Skrull God, it’s awaken the true memories in some Skrull sleeper agents, and, kick starts the Secret Invasion. Anyways, I’m just glad Good old Albert got that health nerf…a Pixie-Esque character should never be like top 5 in health totals.

Yes, he does. It’s the Skrull suicide attack quote. Among other things.

Crap, I’m starting to cry all over again : (

Anyway, she’s more of an assist character than Morrigan is. Whereas Morrigan can be somewhat threatening in specific situations like you said, H-Ko just isn’t threatening anywhere unless she is an assist. Hopefully, that all changes…

Seems like you’re defining boring as ‘overplayed styles’ such as newer players using Hulk :h: to bait attacks. Well, that’s not what I meant by it at all. I did the missions and I suffered through the input delay he required. Let’s just say I didn’t like it one bit, and if I had to describe Hulk, I’d call him ‘boring’. Same goes for Tron… She was so damn slow.

Knowledgeable by what means? Maybe it’s just me… But I definitely would of rather had James Chen commentating that fight; Seth completely ruined the whole experience for me. He hogged the mic, distracted the other commentator (Whose name slips me, but he’s definitely worth his weight in gold when it comes to commentating), and spouted only the glaringly obvious details any new player learning the terminology would have known. Don’t forget, he hardly has any sort of social connection with other commentators outside of anything business related, so without a doubt I’d say everyone he was paired with for the duration of him commentating felt pressured by his presence. It was a stale experience, through an through.

At least he has a level 3. You’re right though… That’s no excuse for it being as situational as it is.

I’ll take a pint of Hulk’s blood. I hear it’s pure anger.
