Also when I mean defense I mean when someone has actually gotten in on Dante, as in, too close for the usual spacing tools (which is what I think your filing under “defense” currently) to be used. Which normally only leaves Hammer and one or two of his underrated tools to dig him out of the corner.

Also, if Dante is as predictable as the player, and a good 90% of Dante’s aren’t exactly spectacular, then Dante can actually be considered pretty predictable. Just like how Vipers should steamroll this game, IN THEORY, but in practice that’s not even close to the reality.
Though reading what you say you probably know more about this game than me. I don’t think Dante’s broken, but I’m not going to try to argue weaknesses here when I don’t have as good a grasp of the game overall. It’d just be wasting time.
So Hulk is supposed to beat you with what, God tier left/right mix ups? Unblockable setups? Super mobility? Lame zoning with spammable projectiles? Unless they are willing to give him tools similar to what the higher tiers have, he has only that which he was given to rely on.
If you know that Hulk smash, and you cannot get around the fact that Hulk is strongest there is then you can’t go throwing around “scrub”-this and “scrub”-that slander.
I don’t want Hulk to be a scrub character but he is! So take your smashing and go challenge Sentinel to a hyper armor face off! Mono y mono, machine vs green chemically induced rage, steel vs shorts.
Numpad notation is good because it doesn’t have overlap like a lot of other notations such as B the button and B backward, forward the direction and forward the kick S the Standing and S the button etc.
I understand what you mean, but when your defensive options pre-people getting in are as strong as Dante’s, the fact that he has anything other than block, advance guard and pray is pretty crazy. Hammer punishes things that are otherwise intelligent offensive maneuvers.

There are only a few Dantes who are even using a fraction of the abusable things with him. How many people do you see using Reverb shock XX fireworks as a poke to control the situation? Out of the good Dantes the things that they do that are predictable take a character with stupid tools to punish it. You know Dante’s going to reverb shock fireworks at a certain range cause that’s what PR Rog always does at that range, most characters don’t have tools to deal with it correctly. At least it’s not Viper syndrome where you know EX seismic hammer is coming and the best result you can get is getting back to a neutral game no matter what action you take, and worst is losing all 3 characters.
I think Dante has tools that in any other game would make the entire cast unplayable, but this game has Magneto, Viper, Phoenix, Zero, Wesker, and Amaterasu as well. Dante has some cons but very few characters can abuse them.

I get the number are positioning for arcade sticks, though that doesn’t help (FUCK ME WHY AM I THE ONLY PAD PLAYER), and the letters are buttons as you count down, but past C I don’t know what those even mean. Viper 300% = corner carry with any of her normal default combos, end with seismo xx heavy thunder knuckle feint then go into infinite, or use an assist to set it up more easily. Once the character dies set up an unblockable into the same thing. There’s a very specific timing that eats both advance guard and normal block varieties while preventing the enemy from air maneuvering out. Once you hit the unblockable do the same thing again and repeat.
Just kidding. I had to switch over to stick cause my hands get either too cold, putting some ridiculous friction on my thumb, or so overheated that they become numb. Personally, with a tech writing background, 2L 5L 2M 5M 2H 5H looks a hell of a lot cleaner than any of the other forms used.
I still have to play pad if I feel like winning though… Swapping from d-pad to stick is hard as hell without any sort of prior wrist experience.
One thing I hope they fix are the black colors on black backgrounds. When someone wants to rock black wolverine, black akuma and black wesker on the helicarrier, good luck seeing anything.
i was actually going to list reverb xx fireworks as one of dantes premier defensive options… shit has amazing priority for a move that is COMPLETELY safe… tbqh its the move that pisses me off the most when playing against dante… add in xf and its a tod starter.
people saying that dante doesnt have amazing defensive options just arent in the know… he has waaaay more than the average mvc3 character.

100% agreed, that move in general is in need of some fixing, then again this is the game where off of any throw Magneto can kill any character in the game thanks to DHC glitch.

This place is encouraging but later I realized that one piece of advice backfired on me from this forum. You know how everyone says “don’t just throw people together you like”? Turns out if I did that, even a few different teams, they all end up pretty fucking good. I thought that coincidence was hilarious. In case anyone ends up curious, if I just threw thigns together based on fandom I would’ve ended up with Dante/Tron/Iron Man. Currently I ended up with Dante/Ammy/Felicia
Yea ever since I started abusing Reverb Shock xx Fireworks my wins have tallied up greater than before. Dante is just a really busted character that needs some good tweaking.
Infinite only matters for meter reasons in case you screw up your unblockable, her meter using combos are ToDs without it. Unblockable is there by design since it’s just focus level 3 with various assist stuff to help set it up. They aren’t nerfing Viper at all to my knowledge which is kind of/very sad.
