If you want to trim his hitboxes then ALL of dante’s hitboxes need trimming.
Hulk literally has nothing going for him outside his really bad gamma charge pressure and large hit boxes (Which make since, considering one of Hulk’s arms is as big as Dante.). Make Gamma Wave non-charge motion and I’ll take a hitbox nerf.
They both lead to character kill combos, so it’s not like Hulk is the lesser of two evils. They both ground bounce/hard knockdown. The stupidity is there is no limb behind them that would make sense of getting hit by their backside.
Actually, anyone ever watch him do his heavy? His fist actually goes pretty far behind him. And Dante’s sword actually makes nearly complete circles if you just watch the tip as the sword moves. Dante’s sword is taller than him. Thing is fucking huge.
Actually, I think most of Dante’s hitboxes match their animations rather well. J.S and hammer certainly are oddities, but in every other situation that Dante’s sword hits behind him…it’s very obvious that his sword should be hitting behind him 0_o.
That doesn’t make it less retarded as far as gameplay goes, but it’s hard to fault it in terms of aesthetics.

Dante can profit off of an accidental hit too well. I personally hated predicting a teleport and dashing under him just to get clipped off of his a.S on its way down, leading to a full combo. Eventually I just blocked and punished it but I hate a game that rewards the easiest path to success.
I really REALLY hope vergil is a total bitch to play. I couldn’t take all those obnoxious 13 year olds who are going to flock to him like flies to a corpse having another dante/wesker/akuma on their hands. Call me spiteful but I’m over that bull.
really? 2nd or 3rd cheapest? I say he ties with magneto. Mainly because I see most dante drop combos. Mag has some pratical combos. Dante does have dhc glitch from anywhere. Both characters benefit from assists that puts hazards out there for a long time. Isn’t wolverine considered the 2nd cheapest? I don’t think so but that’s based most people’s experience. I’ve seen some players that hit them consistently but some reason i see those combos drop. Those acid rain loops or gun loops just drop sometimes. I guess I can see him as second but in practice it’s i don’t see it.

Ha, those pages whether Dante or Wesker (or Zero) were more stupid were…amusing in a painful sort of way; the same thing with regards to Wolverine’s dive kick versus Trish’s dive kick–I can’t believe there are people who hadn’t realized Uma Thurman has huge hands. Thanks for that entertainment.

The only new thing of note that I noticed change-wise with regards to UMvC3 was from Maxmillian’s third or fourth video. Apparently Ryu was given some type of (really short) super mode that is what allows him to throw those bouncy Shinkuu Hadouken. I find it funny how one of Capcom’s solutions in attempting to make a meter-heavy character better is…to require him to use more meter.
Yeah, even though Gustaff Fire/Flame needed to be nerfed because it’s stupid that it was invincible as assist when it’s perfectly fine even without invincibility frames, she needed buffs more than anything else–I wouldn’t be surprised if Gustaff Flame being “glitchy” was a call back to her satellite assist in MvC2 glitching for massive damage, though at least you could hit her out of it that game.
All she really had going for her was her health and being able to ToD people…after hitting them for like 20 straight seconds and spending two or three bars and, hey, the other Megaman character does that better and can get in way easier.
She seems pretty screwed at present, which why I can’t be happy about the nerf to Gustaff Flame at present, especially since I like Tron (even if I can’t stand to use her).

Well, that would be a marked improvement. I still don’t understand why made Proton Cannon’s actual “body” not hit after start-up if they can make other moves stay out forever and a day. It just looks…weird being able to walk into it; I honestly can’t remember if that was possible in MvC2 because everyone who used Iron Man just tend to infinite you to death anyway.

You know a character is bad when her most effective option is to get the fuck off the battlefield and hope she doesn’t have to come back in…ever. She’s a shitty version of Dark Phoenix who doesn’t benefit from X-Factor…who can’t even get back in kitchen while she’s off the battlefield because Chef Servbot is there already. Such failure.

But, yeah, otherwise I agree. I can understand some moves hitting a person that’s (close) behind, but it’s pretty obnoxious when half of them do and at a distance. I think Dante is probably one of, if not the only, character who can magic series you entirely behind his back just to show “flashy” he is.

Without these kind of hitboxes, some charecters would have no way to deal with teleports or 6 way air dashes. It makes sense within the game. qq why don’t you

Look, Weskers of the world love nothing more than to just pop-gun you all day from half-screen and then teleport all up your ass for sizable amounts of damage, while Hulk gets, basically, one way of getting you to stop. Hulk deserves the ability to hit behind him (if his :h: animation was like his Gamma Quake Hyper fist drop animation then I agree that he shouldn’t hit behind himself. But that hand clearly travels past his feet because he’s smashing so hard. SO HARD!)
C) Given Hulk’s size he needs an ability to not become fodder for the majority of the cast who posses higher mobility than he does and can get cross ups with little to no problem.
D) Remember, you don’t have to attack right away after you teleport behind Hulk when you know full well he has the ability to smash you the strongest there is be hind himself.
E) Seriously… Hulk strongest there is.
Dante definitely needs some tweaks, with his mobility and combo length his HB’s are rediculous. Couple that with some of his hits drawing you in, you need only be clipped to be trapped. Same for Wolverine. I’ve been on the fringe of Dante’s moves thinking I’m going to pop out, but I just get sucked in.
However, I’m all about trading non-charge Gamma Wave for taking of the distance, in front of Hulk, that :h: reaches. Give us armored Gamma Charge and you can have the ability to hit behind him.

I agree that there are some hitbox problems in this game, but standing C is pretty much the only reason to use Hulk right now. I don’t care if the move has infinite points of super armor and they make the launch followup safe on block, as long as that’s his only form of offense you should not be getting hit by it. It’s the lesser of two evils, I hate getting scrubbed out by bad Hulks as much as the next guy, but we can’t go back to MvC2 where half of the cast doesn’t have any sort of a gameplan.
If I were to complain about any hitboxes it would be moves like Zero’s jumping C, and Wesker’s jumping E. Moves that hit on both sides, work as air to air, air to ground, moves that just guarantee an easy combo no matter how you hit them. It just promotes bad play. My instinct is to dash under, or air to air if I know these moves are coming but its all futile and the other player thinks they are doing something special.
Iron Man’s Proton Cannon has a huge initial hit box that is 3 frame start up. You don’t want a move that has that cheap a hit box and start up frames to last forever actively also.
I never did understand hyper armor abilities. One moment you think you’re safe with a poke, the next you’re getting comboed from a hard knockdown. That’s scrub tactic 101, and everyone who wanted a free first week was either flocking to Hulk or Sentinel. Then once the game had been out for a month or two, those hyper armor character started dropping like flies. Seriously, there’s absolutely no reason to center a character around baiting players to attack with long animation frames, all the while putting a huge ‘You can hit me now’ sign at the end of it if they have the normal to punish it.
As for the cross up, 20 million frame duration, high priority bullshit Wesker and Zero have… Take away some of their other tools and it won’t really be such a big deal. It’s alright to give a character one noob toy to mess around with, but not an entire arsenal of them.
I’ve addressed in this thread many times why Viper is stupid and broken She’s one of the only characters that beat Dante which is important along with having tools that are stupid good against everything on the ground. In theory fighter she has 10-0 match ups against 90% of the cast and in practical application she has good matches against a lot of characters, and any character that she doesn’t have a good match up against loses to Dante or Jam Viper with Jam session assist.
@Xplosionfish: Although I occasionally disagree with Nini on the Dante cons he rebutted accurately. None of those things really apply to Dante enough to be cons. He does have areas that he’s at a disadvantage, but with his tools he’s exceptional at placing every match where his tools beat other tools. (Almost because this game has Magneto who’s slightly less good than Dante but still has those stupid tools, and Viper who’s better than Dante but has a larger chance of dropping her execution.
Dante Cons:
-Predictable Approaches (IF you see hysteric+assist, the teleport can be near guaranteed, which could very well mean eating a nasty prediction)
If you see hysteric + assist that means nothing as Dante has far too many options to just go for teleport, especially with how mobile he is and the other ranged tools he has. the predictable things Dante has are ones that predicting them just keeps you from getting killed if you’re right instead of getting an advantage like that you can predict if you’re on top of him if he decides to press a button it will beat the vast majority of the cast’s tools. Dante has such a wide variety of abilities that he’s only as predictable as the player.
-Can’t use all tools without proper assists (Has one or two ways to assist himself, but those still won’t cover his teleport well enough to prevent punishes, nor hysterics)
He has tools to do everything he needs with or without assists. There are times when some of his dominant tools shouldn’t be used, but just because Sagat has the fastest fireball in Super Turbo doesn’t mean that he should throw it even when at point blank with a shoto. As for teleport… Stinger bold cancel teleport is under rated and pretty silly even solo
-Very Few Defensive Options (You can only spam Hammer so many times before people read you, watch you whiff, and bury you, and outside hammer he just pushblocks and prays)
Dante’s defensive options control at a greater radius than most characters, if you’re relying on hammer as your only defensive tool you’re doing it wrong. Dante’s ability to control the areas in front of him and above him are amazing with or without assists, 5B is a defensive option that many characters could only wish they had, and wish it lead into weasel shot for a full combo…
