I think the guy did show some good moves, I like how he use ADD d/h to control space. But he still got bodied because his team don’t have an assist to back up IM:(
Don’t get me wrong though, that was an impressive IM play considering he is almost solo most of the time.
he had hidden missiles going but yeah his IM was mostly alone… i can tell this guy is an IM fan cause he puts his ass in whenever possible.
he also plays at 1:34:50 an incredibly hyped match for me to watch i wont spoil the winner though i will tell theres waaay less IM in this one (stupid captain america)
overall i really like this players style he damn good with all of his characters.
I’ll post the link for Danke’s Spencer/Iron Man/Doom in the mixtape thread later.
I still think putting Iron man second or 3rd is the better way to optimize Tony. I just don’t think there’s a way to optimize Tony at the start of the round. Just like I don’t think there’s a way to optimize Doom at the start of the round.
No matter how many guns you put on his back…just like Doom and Dorm he has to deal with all that start of round BS. At least Dorm has really dumb shit that neither Doom or Iron Man have at the start like pushblock or lay flame carpet to get space and then call assist + port into TOD’s. Even then it’s still rough for him until he gets space.
If you get some space and don’t die first then yeah those 2 teams are looking like what would be best if you are actually going to subject Tony to all that mess. Iron Man/Dante/Sent sounds like the most complete route DHC wise. Iron Man/Dante/Doom is cool too other than the fact that you’ll inevitably have to run the team more TAC based because Dante’s combos swing the opponent from one side of the other and if they’re not in the corner you don’t get a damaging DHC.
Nah…no way. I think hidden missiles is perfect for Iron Man because it’s another assist that forces the opponent to have to deal with the assist and there’s less the opponent can do to keep from having to deal with it than Sent drones. Iron Man can easily just call Missiles behind him…shoot some L or M unibeams, then super jump up and ADDF all the way down behind the missiles and you can pop shit off. I feel like the guy could have been way more creative with the use of those missiles especially since the way they track is perfect for his super jump ADDF stuff. The fact that they have to take damage from the missiles and whatever other shit you chip them or stray hit them with means less reason to stack Iron Man up with guns on his back and run him on point as TOD/Combo Video Man. When you do land that clean hit they’re going to die for sure any way because of Tony’s raw damage output from anywhere on the screen.
I honestly didn’t feel like he was that good of a player. He couldn’t do a legit hit confirm to save his life and his spacing in general just seemed kinda scared or he was like unsure when to throw things. Especially the one point in the match where hidden missiles clean landed on a standing Dorm and he didn’t set up another pressure situation or mix up into a combo that would have killed or nothing. Just kinda watched Dorm get hit by missiles and then just sat there.
With hidden missiles backing him up I feel like he especially should have been more confident in his poking game. Which wouldn’t be so bad even if he could actually hit confirm with Iron Man. I think in a month or 2 if he keeps working on Iron Man it’ll be more interesting to watch but c.M, s.H into nothing is not going to scare anybody.
What I did like about him is that he definitely gives me the idea that hidden missiles is probably as good for Tony as I figured it would be.
I guess I meant optimizing his point play rather than his overall value. If you wanted a team to show off Tony in terms of TOD combos with a strong neutral game, I think Iron Man/Dante/Sentinel would probably be the best way to do it.
If you were looking to make the strongest IM team possible, it’d probably have him in the second or anchor slot like you said. Unibeam is strong for a variety of characters, so it would be pretty easy to put together a team from there.
I’ve been playing IM/Dante/Strider lately. I don’t think it’s ideal, but it’s been working for me while I’ve been trying to figure out who to add to my Dante/Strider combo. I try other characters and they hit like girls compared to Tony
Also Repulsor Blast while calling Vajra is a pretty strong option for pulling people out of the air safely. And cr.H -> Unibeam -> Vajra hits is a pretty funny hit confirm from like 3/4ths of the screen away.
Yeah I don’t think he needs 2 assists to optimize his point play. You can kill most of the relevant characters with just jam session or sent drones as an assist. Having both is better but you can only really optimize point play for characters that do well when they mash on shit at the start of the round and Tony I just don’t feel is one of those characters you can mash on shit with at the start of the round and always feel good.
I think it would really take some creativity (I guess like it does with Dorm on point) to really get Tony going at the start of the round in tournaments without losing your TOD character pretty fast to point blank bullying from the other characters.
If people can come up with some good start of round strategies to not just flat out die with Tony at the start of the round I guess it could work. Though if it’s like how it is with Doom especially…it just will be too much work for not enough overall profit when I still feel like you can make a lot of him without 2 assists.
I’d like to see what people come up with on point though to deal with those issues. His movement in claustrophobic situations isn’t great but it’s still better than Doom’s or Dorm’s so there’s that.
Yeah he definitely was playing a little too SF with Iron Man not calling missiles in neutral situations where he easily could have.
He even did some of the Xbox Live hit confirms (c.L,c.M, s.H, UNIBEAM) that made my eyes roll. Outside of those issues…overall he had some good concepts to look into.
Can’t hate too much since it’s already been shown that Magneto + Missiles is pretty beast mode too.
Hey that was me on stream I’d just like to clear up a couple things. I know iron man combos and am actually pretty consistent at doing them. Unfortunately my execution on the UFO cabs is about a third of my execution in general, that plus tourney jitters means I’ll going to drop a lot, sorry guys, ill try to do better next time. Also CR.m St.h unibeam is actually the best you can get at absolute Max range CR.m as far as I know because you are too far to krispy or repulsar. At least you can get level 3 off it. Also I agree my use of missiles sucks, i threw doom on the team less than a week ago never having really played him before
I’m trying to get more streams of casuals in Austin and am releasing the revival of superior tech soon, this one is mostly flash but if there’s demand ill try to release a more tutorial type video like the old ones.
Thanks to those enjoyed my play and sorry to those who didn’t; I can assure both parties that I think I’m a much better player than I showed on stream and can hopefully show a higher level of play to the public in the future. This character isn’t very good but if you show patience(trust me he’s a zoning character) and abuse your opponents likely lack of matchup knowledge you can still win!
Meh it’s just one tournament you got a lot of room to build on. As long as you want to play the character you’ll make the most you can make out of him. The people who make the most of their characters are the ones who really care about them and work to get the most out of them rather than dwell on what they can’t do. It’s easy to know what a character can’t do (you don’t have to play a character for very long to get ideas in your head for what they can’t do) so it will only help you to figure out what they can do.
You have him in second spot which I like instead of subjecting him to all of the start of round BS which is good. Long as you play tight or use one frame DHC whiff punishes you won’t have to worry about the non safe DHC issue too much. Just let Spencer do his shit with beam and missiles and then Iron Man will come in when he comes in.
They make you play on cabs for console games? Can you not play on your own stick? That’s interesting. I guess that has something to do with the sloppy execution. Even then…I’m not sure running unibeam everytime at max range after s.H is ideal unless it’s going to kill them. I’d personally rather fly, j.M fly cancel call assist and continue pressure until I get within krispy kreme range. Unibeam doesn’t really give you much advantage and doesn’t really do enough damage in general to make them scared to just run back in and do more shit. There were also times where you would just do s.H and nothing else. You should always be cancelling into flight or at the bare minimum a unibeam or repulsor blast after s.H. You can always make everything safe in this whiff cancel of a game so just always be doing something. You might as well transition into more offensive pressure if you that close to landing a krispy kreme any way. I would rather just keep the j.M’s and j.H’s on the screen until I land something in range for bnb. That’s just me though I guess.
Other than that…I hope you can tell me that they can let you play on your own stick or something cuz especially with a character like Iron Man you’re going to have a lot of trouble at your execution being at a 1/3 of what it’s supposed to be.
You can bring your own stick, but to be honest it slows down the process for everyone and it is certainly possible to be consistent on cab, I just don’t play there enough to have it down yet. I disagree with you on the unibeam point, but certainly understand where your coming from, I like it because after the air tech If i didn’t level 3 I can often catch them with repulsar blast or if they go back it resets to full screen where I’m most comfortable. Every time I did stand h into nothing else it was an executional error purely, I will always go into krispy or unibeam if I’m executing properly. To be honest I can still normally land combos at ufo but the jitters and some other extenuating circumstances kind of fucked up my execution even harder that night. One of the buttons was not working in my match against hoang and it kind of fucked with me(jumping s instead of ziplines, launch into nothing with doom) and after that I was pretty shook. I was actually kind of embarrassed of my matches that night, so I’d hope you can see them as executional errors rather than poor gameplan.
Hmmm sounds like it’s going to be a process then. Would hate to see you lose another 2 or 3 tourneys in a row to execution crap but that might be the way things are going with the way you make it sound with the cab issues.
If the tourney thing is a weekly thing then I guess I’ll see you on there next week or whatever and see what happens.
Ranbats are every week, but marvel switches in biweekly, marvel and blaz one week, kof and and sf the next until the end of the season. I also play KOF, but I’m sure you dont want to watch that :p. Thanks for the support, and trust me I’d hate to see it too. I play that pw player all the time, and while hes very good, i do normally win, had I gotten there I think would have had it.
while others couldnt see it or acknowledge it… i could tell you were a good player. your streetfighter style zoning is the same kind of zoning that combofiend and much more importantly justin wong, use.
i could tell you were having execution “issues” of some sort though i thought it was nerves not the cabs… glad to hear it was the cabs.
anywho, keep it up, haters gon hate, you really dont have to explain the hitconfirms… i knew what you were doing. im’s that play him knew what you were doing.
thugh the only thing i’d say would be to try and tighten up that spacing so that you can use the krispy instead of having to use unibeam
… but thats obvious and neednt be mentioned really.
damn yo… that trish had your number though… bad matchup or cabs?
I haven’t played that guy in a while, when I used to I normally won. To be honest by the end of the tourney i was pretty dead, the first match vs him had the button issue that I felt lost me the game and i’d been pretty bad on the cabs all night. That’s not to say the cabs are bad, UFO is a top notch establishment, it’s just I practice so much on my own stick with it on my lap that it’s a bit weird to play on an arcade cabinet. Hoang is pretty good though and his trish is quite annoying, I definitely need more practice with that matchup as well. Thanks man for the support, ufo streams marvel every tuesday as well and I’ll be there most of the time, hopefully executing better. I’m glad you noticed some of my zoning patterns, he has some pretty nasty ones with repulsar blasts weird hitbox.
