The thing about shot loops isn’t so much the outright damage that they do so much as that damage plus the meter gain. Starting with one bar and going through them, assuming that the maximum amount of reps you can do is 4 two bullet reps and one max bullet rep and the starter for max damage:
With Dante solo, you build 1.7 meters approximately and do 555K before a super. With Strider assist or something similar, any extra pickup you do between Crystal or Twister (multi-hits for more damage and meter at max scaling) before the Double Volcano - Beehive ender pops you up to about 1.9 meters built and ~567K. Maxing out shot loops entirely with 4 two bullet reps and 2 max bullet reps:

Gets the solo meter built to around 1.75~1.8 and pumps up the solo damage to 566K pre-meter. Adding the assist like I mentioned before (my example here being Vajra) leaves me with 2+ meters built (and 585K damage) on top of the initial meter I had before for DHC nonsense or an outright KO on most relevant characters in the cast with a Devil Must Die (585K + 440K=1025K).
I totally didn’t just pop into the lab to get the raw stats here… I have a life. I think. >.> <.<
Dante isn’t a damage character anymore, but you do see results when you begin to think of more than just the damage. As with all things though, you can only get them with practice. Why wouldn’t you want another powerful option to fall upon for whenever the stars align and the moment is right for it?

Could you still do shot loops if you do [starter], stinger, viper, volcano, tk carats, [insert shot loops here]. Seems like it may be more damage as you get carats earlier in the combo.
Certainly, It’s one of the easiest go-tos for damage with my team. I think I posted videos of myself doing that as well as a video of a friend messing with the setup to add two more Carats into the combo.

I think that last combo starting with viper can be further optimized. After the 2nd box dash loop try to do drew grimey’s strider extension (after loop land, M + strider, H xx 236H~S, wait, MHS (or HS depending on hsd). Then do a jam session ender. I normally go with j.S, land, dante, 623L, sJ.HS xx 214H, land, super
Question for the thread, with one assist, what is the absolute highest optimized damage you have ever done with Dante? I’m sitting on something over here that does 835K (j.:h: confirm - 1.9 meters built)/863K (Hammer confirm - 1.75 meters built) with one Vajra assist call and I’m pretty much about to start advocating that people learn how to do dash up mid screen stuff. It adds a layer of flexibility that shouldn’t be understated.
So what’s the optimal shot loop combo for Team Yipes, then? Is it something like:
Hammer, Volcano j. H airplay j.H st.H cr.H [S HHHHHHH]x2, reverbshock into million dollars? Or is it worth using the wallbounce and then going into Sword loop?
picking up dante he is too useful in this game, currently learning him. with regards to combos i see so many im not even sure which are the most optimal.
Once ive learnt the day 1 basic bnb whats the best line of action to take with regards to learning combos?

Just like with Vergil, after some reps of Shots Loops, call Strange to catch them falling, and try to convert from there. (Hammer? Acid Rain? Million Carats? Stinger?)
I don’t get it, why do people say “squeeze in Million Carats early” in a combo to maximize Dante’s combo damage? Trying to find a Dante/Vergil/Mags combo that can squeeze in a few million carats.
After stinger> teleport> hammer, try to box jump over the character to put them in the corner and then go into beehive, that way you can dhc into viper for added damage, trust me you will have enough time to do it.
I’d test this stuff myself but I won’t have access to my console until next week, so I’ll ask a few questions here.
First of all, I’ve only recently started playing UMVC3, with Zero/Dante/Vergil with Ryuenjin/Jam Session/Rapid Slash. Now, with Zero I of course can 850k without meter while gaining 2.5 and 1.25mil with 1.5 positive meter gain so as long as he’s alive I don’t really need to worry.
However, I need something for Dante with just the Vergil assist. The best player around here plays Hulk on point so I definitely would like to have something that I can reliably deal 1.2mil damage with for Dante/Vergil, preferably midscreen, and with spending 3 bars with as much meter gain as possible. My execution is all right, I can do some simple BnBs with Dante but I have mostly paid attention to Zero so my practice with Dante is still pretty low, however I’d like to have something I can work on.
Reading through this thread I’m now considering the Clay Pidgeon loop as my BnB. Even if it’s a tight link I doubt it’s a 1framer and as in SF4 2framers are pretty tough to miss I don’t think it’ll be a problem with a bit of practice as I won’t be playing online at all. So here I’d like to ask:
In what situations can Rapid Slash give me an early Million Carats? In corner after a Volcano? Any specifics? How about followup?
Does it work if I do the Clay Pidgeon loop and after the Stinger -> Hammer can I airdash onto the other side and do the combo extension from 0:36 in this video: [media=youtube]CzbQ_G4yVyk[/media] or does it not work anymore at that point due to hitstun scaling or whatever? Can I get away with just a slight alternation in that case? How good would the meter build be here? Also, are there any good alternatives for the Stinger that don’t use wallbounce? If not, how much damage am I losing with Vergil?
Ideally I’d like a combo that can build enough meter to go from 0 meters into Dante DHC into Vergil and 2 sword loops, though I don’t think this is possible. At the very least I’d just like a 1.2mil damage combo with only Vergil assist off at least stuff like Hammer and air M(crossup probably) that uses 3 bars that hopefully builds over 2.
