well on one of the combo I saw yun canceling something to get range and then do one of his move so that the other character could bounce again.
so yeah, I need to learn one of those combo with the geing jin or whatever it is called.
stephane, if i were you i would give the Blockbuster on neil (a little ways north of Jillian’s bar) a call; last time i checked they had the strat. guide there for like $20. it’s a really helpful guide if you’re just starting out. beyond that though just be careful of what you take from it.
really the basic basic yun genei jin combo is this midscreen
(lp->lk->mp) target chain -> cancel the mp of the target chain into genei jin -> as soon as you get outta super freeze either s.mp or c.mp or c.mk -> hp -> dp+mp -> dp+hp x n tell you get to corner then replace with dp+mp again -> once genei jin ends -> juggle with one more dp+mp -> qcf+p to end it.
Basically the only hard part is landing the two normals into dp+p and then just doing that move over and over juggling them tell it ends.
To further advance the combos damage wise there are usefull moves to juggle with like: f+mk, f+hp, qcb+p, qcf+p (use the dash punch only if you have to because it scales the combo a lot more when used), and far s.hp.
My usual midscreen genei jin combo is this:
target combo -> activate -> s.mp -> s.hp -> mp+dp -> hp+dp to corner (usually only one or often the mp one takes me to corner) -> close c.mk -> f+mk x 2 -> far s.hp -> f+mk -> far s.hp (last hit while activated) -> hp+dp (this is right after genei jin ended so the hp one is used to hit properly) -> qcf+mp/hp.

I talked with an Illinites chair this evening, and she is willing to let us run a tournament at the Illinites on Friday, April 27. They need to know what games we’re running asap, so that they can go to marketing.
I talked with EB Games today, and they told me to call in tomorrow to see OK it with the store manager, James.
What games should we run for both tournaments, assuming EB gives us the OK?
Here is my input. I say we should have Smash Melee and 3s at Illinites. This is why. We’re working with a new Illinites coordinator we have never worked with before. Even if she knows about us and our reputation from other chair members, I would like to leave a good first impression on her. So if we want this Illinites to be especially successful, this means drawing the most people for our event.
Smash is the shoo in, here, as it definitely draws in the largest crowd. I do realize that some have expressed that the Smash community on campus is self sufficient, and therefore does not need our help. However, since gaming is illegal in Champaign-Urbana, any tournaments the campus Smash community may run outside of Illinites cannot have real cash prizes like Illinites does. I’m damn sure the Smash players would love an Illinites tournament.
I chose 3s as the second game solely on its past performance. The Illinites tournament we ran before the one in February, we ran 3s and SC3. 3s was unexpectedly popular, and had over 30 entrants. This is why I feel 3s should be the second game, but since Smash is already going to net us plenty, I think we can be flexible with the second game.
After considering the games for Illnites, we need to consider the games to play at EB. Now, given the situation, I would go for GG and some other game.
We need to get the games for Illinites asap. Doing so will inevitably entail choosing the games for EB tournament (should it go through). So post up now.

well I guess I can let smash swing by since it is new chairman and that you need to make a good first impression. but for the second games, we should have something that can be run quick… so I will go for guilty gear… and plus if we advertise t correctly, we can even get some more poeple.
If we have the tournament at illinites and I don’t really see the point of having a tourney at EBgames… but yeah, we could have another guilty gear tournament at EBgames, if the chicago guys said that they were going to come down. you know just for fun.

Basic pressure after knockdown (practice it after a throw):
knockdown, Butterfly (236P), run up to opponent, mixup
You want the butterfly to hit them just as they wake up, and then do a high or a low such as:
High- knockdown, butterfly, run up, 3P (recover then butterfly hits them), 5K, 5S, 2D
Low - knockdown, butterfly, run up, 2K (recover then butterfly hits them), 5K, 5S, 2D
my input on UIUC drama. be prepared for more agree/disagree-ments:
you should not run smash melee. the smash community is very healthy and can run their own tourneys. also, just like how you didnt want to run gg b/c it was like free money for you guys… running smash is free money for those brothers (matt and uMm (?)).
james, smash is a fighting game. theres no reason to start that kind of talk b/c i know that you know better.
for the april illinites tourney, run this: smash 64, free for all, no items, single elim bracket, top 2 in a group (of 4) advance. one of the most exciting/fun illinites tourneys that ive been to was something like this. keep in mind that this is illinites and there is a different mentality to the people attending (ie- its not an evo tourney).
the last smym was during spring break a couple weeks ago. another smym is not yet scheduled.
just because you guys were planning on coming to the monthly, dont feel that the chicago guys are obligated to come to uiuc… (for this reason->)… be careful not to overestimate the travel capacity of chicago players (why do you think there are issues w/ MoN?). but do let us know when stuff is going on.
if youre running tourneys in the first place, then it should be a priority to advertise properly. so that maybe youll find new players. otherwise you could just run small tourneys at any random night of casuals.
hokuto no ken would prolly be a fun game to run (at illinites) b/c its a new game, it would be a mash fest, and its hardcore in a bruce lee kind of way.

Thing about that is that it is an Illinites event. We cannot do any advertising of it. Illinites, and only Illinites does the advertising of its events. Sometimes they don’t even make any flyers or advertise very little. News of a new Smash tournament spreads like wildfire, though, so that’s not a problem.

I think HnK would work better at the EB tournament. Especially if we can advertise it (ie, not Illinites).
Adding a vote for T5 at EB. Because I still want to see if we can generate a lot of players for T5 on campus with proper advertising.
I personally think that the EB line-up sounds pretty good; Guilty Gear and some other strange or under-appreciated title. I mean, obviously, I would be down for HnK, but I also believe that others would enjoy it for its ridiculousness and masher-friendly style. However, I think you guys are on the right track with alot of the aforementioned titles. For Illinites, since I am not very experienced with setting up tourneys, it’s kinda tough for me to say. I would probably go with your strongest games – whatever has had a warm reception in the past. I do agree with the others that advised against Smash, though. It can definitely hold its own, even without our help. In fact, just the other night there was a Smash tourney upstairs at the Union!! Jerry knows what I’m talking about. Do you guys REALLY want to have another one already?! This is our club; I say we play what WE want while still keeping others in mind. That’s just my opinion.

3s at EBgames because we are going to pay some money to participate a the tourney therefore we should play serious other then guilty gear since GG willl be thre already.
Hnk at Illinites becasue since most of us are noob at the game ( I haven’t even touched the game yet), we could just mash our way to free money…
if we put HnK at EBgame I personnaly won’t play because I am too noob and I don’t want to waste money, but if it is a illinites I will be very tempted to play the game since it is free entry and the best masher win it all…
no Melee becasue they just had one the other day, so I will go with guilty gear for illinites and we can advertise for our EBgames tourney later on ourselves.
