UIUC Thread Part IV: BBBBEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRR

Yeah, I’ll get you your directions.

oh yah, forgot to tell chris haha. i knew i forgot something…

i got your games.

EDIT: games people??

And the winner is…

AFRICAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, MOTHA-FUCKAS!!! Hell yeah, Stephane, good shit; I forgot how satisfying it was to see you kick ol’ boy’s ass  Man, what a comeback, too!! Yeah, it justs goes to show you that people like Simon would, for example, not tip a waiter and then be surprised to find a Mountain Dew bottle full of pee in the driver’s seat of their car (my point: don’t fuckin’ dish what you can’t take in return…). Well educated, Stephane. Africa…simply Africa…

…oh, and Scott, I wasn’t sure how to post that picture on the forum. Can you explain how to me?

why the knock on simon? you can clearly see stephane getting in his face after he won. theres a huge difference between being excited and being disrespectful.

look at when justin beat one of the japanese chun’s at evo (i cant remember who). he was jumping around like a monkey after he won. the guy didnt want to shake hands after. who can blame him?

it’s a shame not everyone can recognize poor sportsmanship

I don’t think you can directly post images on this board. You can upload the image to http://www.imageshack.us and post the link over here.

if you upload it online, u can link it by surrounding it with "

" and "

".

well i mean, stephane was just trying to joke around. i don’t think he meant any harm. simon sort of took it a little too seriously.

simon does put up the whole get-in-everyones-face attitude. u can expect to reap what you sow.

The knock on Simon is because he had a bad freakin’ attitude the whole time he was there: cold shoulders to everyone but his “crew”, getting verbally angry when he’d lose, slapping the machine, and I think there was even an instance in which he personally offended Jerry. All I am saying is that he didn’t exactly present himself in a very sportsmanlike --as you called it-- way. I mean, when all is said and done…it’s a goddamn VIDEO GAME, folks; lighten up!! I won’t apologize for how I feel after what I’d seen; if you wanna be positive, people will visualize you as a positive person and vice versa. But, I mean, it’s whatever; I think it’s a shame not everyone can see even with both eyes open…blind to the fact.

Live from James in Atlanta:

“There’s about 120 people in the Third Strike tournament.”

ah simon didnt do nethin to me. haha.

I think Simon gets a bad rap. He’s a good enough guy, and he was only acting that way because he took what Stephane did pretty seriously. I mean, if some guy you never talked to did what Stephane did to you after beating you in a close match, wouldn’t you get pissed too? Everybody who knows Stephane was laughing, but I don’t think Simon knows him at all.

I’ve played Simon at every GG tournament I’ve ever gone to and he’s always been super-nice to me, but that’s because I made an effort to talk to him and be nice to him too.

yea, i think anybody would be upset if some random dude you’ve never met did that to you after the match. simon’s been always cool to me (although he still doesn’t seem to remember my name).

and mike… you’d actually be surprised to know that uiuc would be placed pretty low in terms of sportsmanship in the overall picture of fighting game communities, although it’s due to few individuals. the it’s only a game phrase is something me and dan always used to say, too. but some people never learn. you guys probably already know who are responsible.

then again, this is uiuc. the place where excessive bitching, broken controllers and thinking that every character they play is “low tier” is the accepted norm.

I AM UIUC. My individual actions ARE representative of UIUC gaming as a whole! My rash personality, childish behavior, and extreme actions are the essence of UIUC crew’s rep. People regard UIUC as they do solely because of me! Because I am just too awesome like that.

chris, dont provoke me to punch you.

Again, there’s a huge difference between “friendly trash-talking” and being disrespectful. Just because we all know Stephane well enough to know he didn’t mean anything by his post-game celebration doesn’t make it ok for him to do it to Simon.

“Fuck! I lost!” is a tad different from “Fuck you! I lost!” I’ve only had good experiences with Simon so if he acted differently that day, then my apologies for not knowing the whole picture. All I saw from the video was Stephane getting in Simon’s face and Simon not wanting to shake hands after being disrespected.

For those who did not understand the message I was trying to convey in my previous post:

The wrongful and inappropriate mannerisms and actions of one person are certainly not indicative of those of a group that that individual is associated with. To impose association of such brutish characteristics of said individual upon the group is not only ignorant, but also insulting to the rest of the members of the group that do not exhibit such behaviors.

In this scenario, comments expressing such sentiments is inappropriate because:

  1. As stated before, imposition of such behavior of one individual upon the group as a whole is not truthful, as the behavior of one individual is not thoroughly indicative of that of the group.
  2. Imposition of such behavior upon the group is unfair and insulting to those in the group that do not exhibit such behavior.
  3. Expressing such sentiments publicly only helps to establish or further promote a false image of the group as a whole.

So for this case, saying “excessive bitching, broken controllers, and complaining about…characters” is true and applies to one individual of the group in particular (myself). However, associating such characteristics with the group, in this case UIUC, by saying “this is uiuc, where excessive bitching, broken controllers, and complaining…about characters is the norm” is wrongful for the reasons listed above.

This is what sparked my sarcastic response previous, that some did not understand.

fair enough; i admit that i may have been a bit judgmental. if you guys say that he’s a pretty okay guy then you probably know ALOT better than i.

What exactly is your avatar ripping apart?

It’s Urien. Exploding candy. Nub.

hey u fcuking people. your town sucks. i was just there. i know.

Word from James is he went 5-2 in 3s.

This means, assuming a field of no more than 128, and assuming he had no byes:

He won in round of 128, in round of 64, in round of 32, in round of 16, and in round of 8 in the winner’s bracket. This means he lost in round of 4 in winner’s bracket, then got peaced out in round of 4 in loser’s bracket. Assuming everything is correct, which it should be, James tied for 7th at Final Round X in a field of over 100.

GOOD SHIT
