Since everyone seems to be against the gen system, I’m going to go ahead and say that I’m really interested to see how it works out. I used to play LoL and it seems like gems will function similarly to ruins in that game. Ruins weren’t a huge factor because the role of the character dictated the ruins they would use. For example, you would expect the carry to use damage boosts and the tank to have armor. So if capcom balances every character with the their ideal gems in mind, there shouldn’t be any game breaking combinations. In competitive play, the gems will probably go in one of two ways: either people will find the ideal gems for their character and use those regardless of the match-up, or people will pick gems based on the opponent. The latter would be a lot more interesting IMO. It would add a lot of complexity to every match up, and not to mention completely fuck up the tier lists.
The real concern is what will happen with DLC or preorder bonus gems in tournaments. Hopefully those will all be bad/gimmicky gems that wouldn’t be used at high level anyway.
cant wait for button checks then setting gems then someones gems are wrong and then someones buttons actually weren’t set right and then the other person set their gems wrong this time and then…
to be serious for a second the auto block and auto tech gems sound pretty stupid, if there’s any other gems like that the game could get pretty broken.
these gems activate after something happens so i can see the game punishing you for doing well. after hitting someone too much auto block activates? or after throwing someone too much they get auto tech?

I just signed up to the forums and I was pretty thrilled to see a meetup in Central IL. I only play SFAE at the moment but I’ll be getting some of the newer games pretty soon. I live in Danville but I can travel to Champaign no problem. I’d like to get in on some of your meetups if that’s cool.
