I, too, would like to play this Killer Instince. Is it anything like that obsure fighter made by Rare back in the day?

Also, I vote we all start maining The Rumble Fish 2. We’re gonna need to import a few japanese cabs. How much money does everyone have?

MK is a different style, but it does have mechanics that allow for footsie, mixup and zoning. However, the game balance is in constant flux and the online play leaves more to be desired. I personally believe the foundation of MK is far better than Marvel, but the rest of it (consistency, glitches, dlc) is so poorly maintained that it can’t reach that high level of tournament prominence.

“humbag - SF characters are limited compared to MK characters. Their moves and priorities are dictated by gameplay rules, numbers, and frame data. That means that no matter what…A dragon punch from Ryu will ALWAYS kill a jump-punch from anyone in the game. Or…no matter what Blanka’s electricity can be canceled with a low kick from anyone. Or…once any combo is started there’s nothing the opponent can do to stop it. Those are the limitations I’m talking about. MK doesn’t have clean cut rules like that. There are Breakers to stop massive combos and priority differences that changes with each character. For Example Kung Lao’s spin can’t be touched by any player or it’ll become a pop-up …but Noob’s “Saibot Strike” can hit him right out of it because Noob is not physically touching Kung Lao. His shadow clone is hitting him while he spins. For the people who had projectile xrays. (This was fixed in a later patch I think) But it was said that there was nothing you could do to counter attack a projectile xray ie (Kitana, Sektor, Kenshi, . Once it hit you, you were damaged by it…But characters who had “Reflect special moves” could perform an “EX Reflect special move” which became a “Special Absorb move” and would suck the opponent’s xray projectile and gain health from it! But no one knew that when the game first came out because its one of those secrets that hadn’t been discovered till later. There are a lot of un-earthed tricks in MK”

the thing is EVERYTHING you just said takes place in SF as well

-some characters jump attack may have a hit box that makes a ryu DP whiff
-a combo thats started should be allowed to finish, unless the game design constantly revolves around 50%+ combos (MK9) most combos in sf4 dont do NEARLY the same amount as in MK9.
-zangief’s spinning lariat goes through EVERY fireball however akumas angled fireballs can hit it as well as well spaced and timed slow fireballs
-NO one knew that THawks U2 combo doesnt scale to 80% after a focus attack like it should until later on in the game (it does 100% for some odd reasons)
-new safejumps/unblockables/block strings are found all the time for character specific matchups

basically all I am saying is that everything you just said about MK is 100% the same in SF its just that the games systems are completely different

On top of that, James, FADCing enables players to do some really creative things with not only combos but also mix-ups, tick throws, etc.

Again, not knocking MK or its players. It’s just a matter of taste. SF’s rules and mechanics just make more sense to me. Furthermore, Capcom’s core mechanics transfer much more noticeably over to games of similar nature (SNK, Arc System, Ecole, etc.). I find that being a SF player is much more “useful” for lack of a better word.

i agreed

woot Illinois football 5-0

crazy comeback today

Julian is gonna be in town tonight chillin’ at my place. Are there games anywhere?

yea is there gonna be games today?

Any gaming events next weekend? I need my SFAE and MK9 fix :looney:
Yo Big Marcus, I’m bringing my TV and PS3 next time so you can play me with Quan Chi.
Can’t wait to learn the new Blanka changes a bit more. Gotta hit the dojo :nunchuck:

What’s up ? I’ve been looking for someplace locally to play sfiv ae. This threads seems to b the place to post to find something out. I’m from peoria il and even willing to travel. Is there an arcade anywhere close by? Or even members of the srk forum that get together and play? My psn is DIGITALFRAG. Add me or txt even if any1 knows whatsup. 3096697319

@ Julian/James/Dan: Good games last night, gents. Thanks for coming out; those small chill get-togethers are always really fun.

Dan, keep heading in the direction you’re heading. Just keep coming to the sessions, asking for tips, and studying up. Once you learn a match up or two, things will start falling into place for you. Make sure to keep drilling that execution in training mode. I’ll probably be free again this week, so we can play again if you want.

Yeah, we play quite a bit out here in Champaign-Urbana. Coincidentally, there are already a couple of guys from Peoria that come to our gatherings from time to time. Keep close to the thread; we tend to post our gatherings and what-not pretty regularly. Welcome.

good to hear. matt got in touch with me a while ago but i had some financial pickle to deal with and didnt have much free time back n july. im interested in gameworks n chi town suburb too. im down for travel on weekends, but does gameworks in schaumburg have ssfiv ae? that would b tits if they do! sigh i miss inplay and aladins castle.

Yeah, they have AE. 2 Japanese head-to-head set ups.

So, a quick heads-up:

I’m planning on going to Final Round in March. As of last night, I plan on getting as ready as possible for the event. I’m going to play strictly Guile from now on, focusing on match-up knowledge and overall performance. I would really appreciate any help you guys can offer. I know we have a lot of really solid players here, and there’s a great variety of characters I can learn from you all. Likewise, if anyone needs help with the Guile match-up don’t hesitate to let me know. I have a lot of work to do and not a tremendous amount of time in which to do it. Here’s hoping I finally make it out of pools at a major.

No one in chicago really goes to gameworks to play anymore.

They all go to Galloping Ghost Arcade on certain days like thursdays.

Check out the chicago thread for those details.

thx bro! i was lookin’ into that thread just a bit ago.

here in a couple weeks when some money rolls n the good ol’ checkin’ accnt im really thinkin’ bout’ takin’ the trip up there. i feel at this point in time the best learnin’ experience will come from playin’ with variety of players and locally seems to be the best way to start gettin’ into the scene an’ all.

ya know, i really wana’ start gettin’ some experience under my belt. playin’ in these events i’m seein’. plus… it cant be nothin’ but fun!

Who is going to SB and can anyone fit me into their living arrangements?

Also, Scheelhaase is the best.

^+1

There is a small chance I might have a car by then and if so I will drive out. Don’t count on it though…

Im down to train with you. Will MK be at the tourny too?

Its a major tourney, so most definitely MK will be there
