UCI Zot Zone/OC Thread part 2

at least we dont steal cvs2 buttons!!!

hey guys

for all the guys that are showing up on saturday, COULD YOU PLEASE BRING A TV? this will be much appreciated! =]

anyone want to buy a fresh copy of CFE? I’ll sell it to anyone for 25. Any takers?

Lol, realized too late that the game sucks? Allen and I were discussing it, and he came to the conclusion that it’s basically cvs2 without snk characters. And with the arbitrary decision to change the timing for everything (wakeups, special moves, etc.)

way to help me advertise my merchandise, elliot. =T

i don’t think i would be playing CFE as much as i do if it wasn’t for mukuro/kenji

yeah, kenji and guy are the only ones i’m really interested in now. they already took out everything i liked about Ryu in CvS2 (mostly shin shoryuken stuff and guard crush patterns which included small jumping and hop kick).

guile is cool

Guy still has the corner command throw combo intact, but it does like 45% less than in A3. His most damaging custom, so far, is much like Ken’s in CvS2: s.rh x N xx QCFx2 + P. There are some pseudo-fancy ones that do about the same damage, but this is probably the “easy” way out. It’s not easy, since timing in CFE/CFJ is utterly ridiculous, but it means having to remember less, I suppose.

CFE reminds me a lot of CvS1, though I’m not sure if Capcom will put in the effort to make a 2nd CFE. It introduced a few things:

  • Both normal and quick get up attacks make it difficult to do wake ups (thus, making it hard on players that love to mash super as they get up) - Making it harder to build up meter for every bar ('cept maybe ingrid’s), as well as making it hard to combo into supers, sometimes even specials, really makes people have to think about some kind of strategy. The character sprites are almost all about the size of 3s characters (outside of warzard sprites), which means that running away to build meter is a lot harder, since people can chase you down much easier than in CvS2.
  • Jedah isn’t a god. While he can combo incredibly easy, and still has the wheel xx dash xx rh invincibility, he takes damage horribly. I’ve noticed warzard and a3 characters can counter his rushdowns fairly easily by just activating their respective bars when he’s near and has thrown out an attack(e.g., Life Boost activate and CC-bar activate). Not sure if this holds for DS, SSFT, and 3s characters, since DS supers don’t have a fancy flash, SSFT people have a hard enough time getting in, and 3s supers can often be slow or have no invulnerability at start (exception: yun SA1).

Anywho, I think the game does well to try and keep things in balance. V-ism bar charges a lot slower, parrying helps against rushdowns really well, lifeboost gives a competitive edge to characters like Mukuro/Kenji who do shit damage, ST characters on average do about 1.5->2 times more damage than any of the other characters, and, as noted before, the game seems more aimed at veteran players than new ones in terms of ease of executing combos into super, or combos period. It’s very hard to adapt to the timing in the game, especially for combos, but i think it’s a pretty good start in terms of trying to prevent the V-ism woes of yesteryear, and sitting on meter. My biggest gripes with the game are the lack of variety in characters and the toning down of 3s and lack of update for ST characters. ST characters really don’t have much going for them outside of power, and 3s characters have weird shit going on. You can’t charge buffer anymore, which i guess is a good thing against Bison/Guile, But it makes it hard to even do urien’s block strings like s.jab, s.strong, jab metallic sphere, jab/strong headbutt, throw.

I just wish that they had characters that better represented their game:
-Zangief is just way out of place considering the other grapplers (Alex and Leo) are superior because of speed and other special moves; Having added Honda, Fei Long or God forbid: Sagat would have added a little more variety, since they can actually do shit when they have no rolls/dashes/etc.

  • Darkstalkers roster is a bit off; Jedah and Demitri play almost alike if you’ve ever seen high level play. Jedah dashes and litters the screen with wheels, while demitri teleports and drills all the livelong day. Felicia and Anakaris REALLY should have been replaced by Merman, John Talbain, Q-Bee, or Sasquatch. Those characters could rush down more, had better mix ups, or could flat out destroy jedahdemitri without having to chase him down. Plus, characters like Q-bee and Merman would have been able to do more with the CFE engine.

Eh, coulda woulda shoulda, i guess. The game, as it stands now, isn’t all that great. An improved roster and bringing back/adding a few more elements to the existing characters would really polish it up. If urien could partition/buffer but still not give that to Guile/Bison, things could really heat up. Likewise, giving Yun back his damned normals from 3s instead of CvS2/SF3:2i would also make him loads better.

Sorry, man, couldn’t resist the temptation. If you hold onto it, I might actually take it myself if I find the motivation to practice… according to abel the game doesn’t such that much, and is still better than svc at the very least

im getting impatient, WHERE THE HELL ARE THE NEW BUTTONS

i can’t do bison’s CC on the right CORNER!! FUX)r

Insert arbitrary comment that has little to do with the quote, or even the buttons, for that matter, and more with personal execution problems. FUX)asr!1112@!!@12ONE-HUNDRED TWELVE

hey guys, i got a question for y’all.

do you like to help out people who aren’t good?(i.e., scrubs)

hey actually ill just get to the point: what is your opinion of giving mike (crow) advice?

i’ve noticed allen’s resentment towards him, and im not sure where it comes from…surely it couldn’t be from the fact that he sometimes loses to mike? hehe…

but yeah, ill start it off…personally i have no problem in giving him little tricks and pieces of advice (empty jump low counter with geese, even though he never uses it…for example) because i am all for more and better competition.

I know some of you have different opinions on this, come on, post!

I dont mind helping out scrubs, but mike has done some jacked up shit before to my friend and THAT SHIT DONT PLAY IN MY DAMN BOOK. the fool is lucky he didnt do it to me or he wouldnt be breathing right now.
TO PROOVE that i dont mind helping scrubs ill start right now
John wepeel: try not to click back and the click “post reply” it causes the posting of 2 identical messeges on the thread
seriously though, i help out whoever asks me questions.

John: I talked to Tim and he said that the reason he put them in the marvel machine was because there was no note on the Box with the buttons in it. I think i asked you to leave a not on the box specifically, but not like that matters now because were getting new buttons that Tim tells me are exactly the same kind as the ones i purchased (happ competition).

i help son of randy lew all the time, in hopes that one day he could actually be somewhat of a challenge to us. (pfft. yea right)

I wouldn’t call people who aren’t good scrubs. I’d consider it more like well I dunno. I just don’t think it’s right to call them that. I’ll answer questions if people have some but other than that I pretty much keep to myself no matter who I’m playing.

hahaha got it, i was on a laptop at zz and my connection was screwy…i fixed it.

did you tell me to leave a note on the box??? cuz i don’t remember that. However, i did leave 2 separate notes specifying CvS2, one for the co-workers (which the technician might have seen) and one for the service log (which the technician should have DEFINITELY seen)…I think I did my part just fine. Tim, however…is not much for remembering. Odds are, he’s making up excuses. Believe in me…

Are you talking about the time Mike borrowed Khoa’s notes and didn’t return them during finals? Yeah, that’s messed up stuff…I don’t like his habit of not closing his mouth (meaning I have to smell his nasty breath), and this one incident while playing hold’em, he looked at my cards when he wasn’t supposed to. Oh yeah, one time he called me a liar and he was totally off. He’s kind of annoying like that…

Still, I’m trying to get at more than just that. I want to see, purely on a video game level, why some would help him, and why some would just let him repeat his jump-back air-fireball with Geese all day…I like to play against variety, and I think that’s the strongest reason why I give him tips here and there.

I distinctly remember saying to leave a note on the box even though i was satisfied when you said that you had left a note for the tech.

no no, if you want to get better, you take it UPON YOURSELF to find out what you need to change. if you want variety, go to a different arcade, if you try to give someone a few no tricks, youre just going to inadvertantly counter any new tips you showed them (unless of course its something safe). I dont mind repeatedly punishing his same mistakes over and over again either, its not my fault hes giving up free dmg.
