Suggestion:
Fill in the bracket manually, seeding people (top 4), then have people chose where they want to go, this has been a tried and true method within Seattle (10 years running from Sir Rat) and it gives incentive to show up early to get a nice spot in the bracket. After the bracket has been filled in, fill it in on Tio and run it.
Advantage: Makes people show up early to get in a spot, where as if you show up later you’ll be forced into a spot.
It does allow friends, or training partners to spread themselves out at least past the 2nd round of winners (not always but again, you show up later that’s your own fault)
I remember for CvS2 @ EVO 2k2, I was taken out by 2 ppl in the Northwest, what bothered me more about that was I really wanted to play people that I normally don’t play against and put ALL my skills (being able to read players being able to adapt etc.) to the test, kinda hard when you were just playing your opponent in the hotel room the night before…and the week before that. Of course this is on the world stage and not on a local level, I understand that at some point I will be running into the likes of my fellow TDP members, or someone that I’ve played a lot/has been to my house. 2nd match happens frequetnly, but first match?
Jason: Yeah I hear what you’re saying. I’m fine with playing anyone at any time, I really am. There have been many tournaments where I play hard hitters 1st or 2nd round in just to get thrown in the lion’s den to fend for myself. I just think it’s a bit nasty when you got team mates playing each other 2nd round in (especially when one of those people had a bye) and random’s making it to top 8 without anything to show for it due to shitty seeding. As far as people wanting me to come out and play…I hear that man…I’ll probably have to hit you up on the phone concerning that though.

^I’m a little personally mad that the most frequent singles tourney is one I can participate in because of a year of difference in my age…I honestly can’t wait for the tourney-wars interim singles ranbat season…Believe I will be there every week and I would be at the singles tourneys at twars but I’m not allowed which I think is weird because there are a couple of people I know that are very good that are under 21 (Riki-Delucifer-GW Chris…maybe me lol) its sad that what frank said at twars last week with the Portland crew there about what he expects of the new blood (hope we didn’t disappoint hahaha) and what he’s lookin to do when it comes to our gettin better and we’re not able to participate in the most frequent and best thing we have going in Seattle right now singles wise…I think what Danny’s doin is a really good thing for the scene and it shows initiative (which is something that is desperately needed) it just irks me that some of what would probably be the top 8 consistently can’t compete and that’s bad when it comes to the overall competition lvl which the future is talkin about.
Bottom line I can’t wait for Twars ranbats and I guess I’ll have to just participate in what I can get for the meantime between Tanaka’s awesome shin-digs and the Udub tourneys (ejdge is tight for startin this)…Hopefully most of the 21+ crowd can lvl up a little bit at these tournies to challenge us young-ins at the other events (lol jokin don’t get your bullocks in a twist).
Also lookin forward to the Afro dojo…40 min car ride is definitely something I’m not looking forward to but hey…if I have the time I’m willing.

Although, I must say, I don’t exactly agree with what you’re saying. I don’t think things are as doom and gloom as they seem. People are playing each other regularly, there are house sessions everywhere. If you’re talking about an everyday at the arcade thing, then yeah, only the GW crew is playing together regularly. As far as the mindset, yeah it’s terrible, that’s been terrible, for a while now so I can agree with that. Hell I’m like you, I hate losing. I’ve never been one of those people that can break a smile after losing, never have, never will. Not to sound rude or anything, but to me, the idea that someone up here is better than I am in a 2/3 set, is simply laughable. Hell even outside of the NW. I have that much confidence in myself. And to be honest, I bet you, out of everybody here, I took the regional loss here the hardest. Easy. But I think we need to help foster that sort of killer mentality here to help other players. It’s easy for us to think that way and to approach the game in that manner, but what about other people? But to say the scene isn’t on the same page or that there’s a divide doesn’t make sense to me when we’re in the middle of a 3v3 tournament season. This event was coordinated to bring competition and unity to the scene and it’s done nothing but good. After all, TW is the reason there are weekly singles. It’s not all bad when it comes to this scene.
The regional tournament blowout, wasn’t because of mindset alone though. That was skill related also, easily. We just weren’t on their level. Weren’t even in the same galaxy. Mindset would’ve done us well, but the skill just wasn’t there, and how could it be when people who are on the team didn’t even go to the sessions we had? When it comes to things like this, everyone’s accountable, even players of our skill level. Me not going to GW for sessions is as damaging as you not going to house sessions. Cause and effect. We’re the ones people chase after, we’re the ones people gun for, therefore we have to pull through for the good of the scene. Cause I was disappointed when you didn’t come to NWM, and that was the biggest NW event we’ve ever had.
I’m definitely not above criticism when it comes to my participation in this scene. Been lazy since Evo, don’t like playing at house sessions, hate playing at GW due to long waits and the sticks there, don’t like entering singles events because I don’t really see a point during these days. Plenty of shit I could (and have been) be drilled for and I understand and accept that. But beyond all that, I want to see this scene reach new heights, that’s why I’m around. But yeah, wasn’t trying to get at you or anything, just saying that there’s more we could do, you’re the homie Jason. :rock::rock:

It was the same for every human being that was 20. You’ll get over it when you hit 21, like every human being that turns 21. It’s just something you have to deal with. It’s the bigger picture here, letting you guys in puts the entire venue at risk. Now honestly, do you want to risk losing TouranmentWars and everything that we have all put together for a singles tournament?

Alright, so here is some important things for this Saturay:

NEED SETUPS as always. I will be bringing two (counting Mike’s TV, I onlyh ave the one monitor). I have also started using HDMI > DVI for my 360 rather than the VGA cable which seems to look better and as far as I can tell further reduces any lag we may have ha on it before with the analag > digital conversion.

I will be starting the tourney @ 8PM this week. And @10:30PM we will be tearing down most (probably all but one) of the SF4 setups and getting them ready to be setup in the restaurant AFTER Tournament Wars. I’ll try to show up @ 7PM to get everything prepared.
