WE WILL BE STARTING THE TOURNAMENTS @ 8PM IF AT ALL POSSIBLE FROM NOW ON - WE WILL NOT BE TAKING ANY SIGN-UPS OVER THE PHONE. IF YOU HAVE NOT ARRIVED AND SIGNED UP BEFORE 8PM YOU WILL NOT BE PUT ON THE BRACKET AND WILL NOT BE IN THIS SINGLES TOURNEY. I WILL TRY TO BE THERE BEFORE 7:30PM to start taking sign-ups.

Ok, just trying to see how many people are interested without getting this buried in the normal TWs thread. It’s looking like we will be able to run a small singles tourney before Tournament Wars, starting at around 7:30PM or so in the Lounge.

BECAUSE IT IS IN THE BAR/LOUNGE AREA - THIS IS STRICTLY A 21+ EVENT

So what this means is, you would have to be there and available to play AT 7:30PM, depending on turn-out we will be doing double-elimination tournaments up to 16-players per game, with possible room to grow depending on how things go.

Rules are planned to be identical to TWs other than this not being a league and there being no teams. Whether it is single elimination or double elimination depends on the turnout for that particular night.

Every week there will be a headliner game that gets priority for the tourney - meaning if 16 people show up to play SF4 on SF4’s week, we will only have a SF4 tourney - or if 16 SF4 Players show up for Tekken’s week, and only 8 Tekken players, we will have an 8-man Tekken tournament and then an 8-man SF4 Tournament. Depending on the number/ranges in between, which we will have to figure out, we will have a bit more flexibility, it also depends on average run-time per tournament.

I may allow more people into the tournament depending on turnout and how we are doing on time, I also might have to scale it back.

If the Tournaments end early, then we will just open up the setup for Casuals which will be best of 5, and no money matches unless there is no line at one or more of the setups. If you want money matches you can maybe bring your own setups for that, but I am not sure how much we will be able to fit in the lounge or if that is ok with Management at Best Western.

Buy-in for these tourneys will be 5$ - if we start to see tremendous turnout , I am not looking for this to be a giant thing, it’s more for everyone to level up and have a good time and also hype for Tournament Wars. Also, a chunk of the pot would go towards Fae in order to keep a good relationship between our scene and BW.

edit: Lastly, please bring YOUR OWN STICKS or arrange to have someone who is bringing one for you to use. I really am not a fan of loaning my stick out during these larger gatherings so people need to bring their own hardware. Controllers are fine too if you want to use that, I don’t mind and syncing them really doesn’t take long at all.

Please try to show up before 7:30PM, that’s when I would like to get the matches started to make sure we get some casuals in afterwords and also make sure everything is all done by the times Tournament Wars starts @10:30PM.

THIS IS A FRIENDLY TOURNEY - please don’t be an ass, we are all just trying to have fun and get better at the games we like to play. I won’t put up with any stupid drama over a 5$/tourney.

Here is what we need for Tournament Wars Singles Tourney #2 on Dec. 5th:

  • SETUPS, I will provide 1 360 setup with both Tekken/SF4 games, I do not have joysticks for people to use for the most part so if anyone wants to offer up a stick or two that would be greatly appreciated We probably want atleast one PS3 tourney because we have a lot of ps3 pad Tekken-heads that aren’t huge fans of playing on 360.
  • PEOPLE, please let me know if you are planning on attending, and PLEASE try to make it by 7-7:30PM so that we can get started I’d like to get a much better turnout this week, we ended way earlier than I was expecting and as long as we have 2-3 setups we won’t have a problem doing a decent sized tourney. Priority at this one will be SF4, so I will likely want it as 2 SF4 setups and 1 Tekken Setup.

Even if you don’t feel like you are tourney level or anything like that, please show up and learn. We will have a lot of good players around, and they will certainly be willing to help out anyone who is new to the scene or just fairly casual so far. We also run casuals after the tournament with atleast one setup going through Tournament Wars matches.

Good stuff Danny, I’m making a post about this on TW’s right now. Although I think that since it is week 1 for Tekken, I think Tekken should have first crack at this.

Also making rounds 2 out of 3 for SFIV would be a good idea too. Tekken’s tournament default is 3 out of 5, but the game is a lot faster than SFIV imo so yeah.

I posted on TZ to to spread the word around, maybe get a SV.com article going for this???

I don’t mind that really, but I don’t know if we have the numbers for Tekken. If enough Tekken players speak up I’ll be all for that. My thinking was since SF4 people have been showing up, a lot who aren’t even playing at all have showed up regularly, they finally get a chance to play against other people in a somewhat organized fashion instead of just sitting on the sidelines.

How about if we have 2 setups (one for SFIV, one for Tekken) and run them both? I already know that the Tekken kids will want to play on PS3 instead of 360. So if I can get one of them to bring a system and monitor maybe we can find a way to hook up another set up in the upper part of the lounge? Not on the pool table though.

That sounds awesome and I don’t mind running both brackets - as long as we have room for both setups. I’ll be bringing a 360 with both games, and if we get enough Tekken heads interested I don’t mind running it as a Tekken tournament at this point, I just don’t really care much for Tekken at a tourney level yet because to be quite honest that game is absolutely no fun against people who know what they are doing in a serious match when you’ve only been playing the game for a week or two. :\

edit: Sorry Riki, maybe if we bring in enough business Best Western will let us start using one of the conference rooms or something during this time window.

I also have SF4 on PS3 if we need a copy - if we have two setups going we could even easily do two 16-man brackets, I’m really just trying to keep us on schedule so that we don’t overlap the singles tourney with Tournament Wars. Though I think most of the SF4 crowd has 360 sticks nowadays.

I only recall the big TV next to the bar and pool table.

Either way, SFIV please, I’m going to all the TW and not being able to play is putting a damper on my inspiration to come as of late seeing as it costs so much in gas, and I’m tired for work in the morning.

what happens if there are people in the bar? you cant kick them out, or make them move for you guys. what if they want to play? you CANT tell them no, because this is during normal buisness hours.

wont happen unless you want to pay for the room rental and for someone to watch over the room (liability issues). also no outside food or drink allowed in those rooms usually. and you have to go through the banquet sales to get that (not ians dept)

that TV, btw, is an SD. so its not been tested for lag or quality.

@ Josh: I was thinking the 2nd set up being in the lounge as well (there’s a little space off to the left of the big TV), KKF or Pat can bring in their monitors and they can play from there.

For those that want to play, we can always let them know that a tournament is going on, and if they would like to enter they can pay the entry fee. But I do agree that if casuals are going to go on afterwards and people want to play, they should get to play, Josh is right it’s technically not tournamentwars so we can’t exclude them (maybe have some extra 360/ps3 controllers on hand for them so ppl won’t be wary of someone going fuck wild on their sticks lol).
