I’m shoryucan’t put Alex in that tier list.
Those tier lists need more Japan…Ken not being upper is laughable.
Went to a local tournament at my uni this weekend. Nothing special but at least it wasn’t online! lol
-Most entrants were just Brawl players who had very little idea how to play any fighting game (very little blocking, bad/random mega crash and baroque, maybe only 1 or 2 combos into super per game), let alone TvC.
-about 25-30 person bracket.
-Single elimination. Semis 2/3, Finals 3/5
-I placed third with Tekkaman/Souki, have had the game for a week, and have never been to a tournament before.
With that said, some thoughts:
-Zero and Tekkaman Blade seem overrated. Obviously it is way too early to tell but I feel these characters just don’t do enough damage. Zero’s level 3 is easy to combo but it’s scaled pretty badly even after a few hits. With Tekkaman B his little crossover shenanigans are weak if you know how to throw and his dash super is fast but does only ~10k, which is pretty weaksauce as well. They are certainly flashy and very fun to play but again over time I think they will not be able to compete with the higher damage dealers. Again, hard to tell but they get waaay too much hype.
-The giants, while intimidating are not that bad once you learn proper mobility and how to break throws. PTX seems to have a lot more tools than Lightan from what I have seen. However, with various characters having specials and supers that just completely manhandle them (Giant Swing, Space Lariat, Roll’s level 3) I don’t see either of them being crazy abused in tourney play.
-Jun is very good! (first place person used Jun/Zero, nothing too flashy but he had his execution down. You could tell he played other games.) I think her ability to “slow down” the game with her really laggy moveset like her double-kick Cs, 421 A/C, etc. makes her pretty easy mode once you get her going.
-Characters I have not seen much of: Ippatsu, V.Joe, Karas, Doronjo. Out of these I think I am most scared by what a good Doronjo will be able to do.
-I still have not seen a keepaway playstyle with characters like Megaman and Saki done properly, so my thoughts on them are still up in the air.
Also I support the idea of picking one character at a time and going through the cast as far as matchups go. That seems like it could be very useful even apart from developing a tier list. I think this game is really cool and I’m glad it’s getting some decent recognition pretty much everywhere.
I think you guys are underestimating Karas. He got nerfed in UAS for sure, but he’s still one of the best characters in the game.
Please dont base your opinions off a 30 man bracket full people who dont know how to play. If blade touched you, you are losing 3/4ths of you life in most cases.
Why do people think it’s to early for a tier list to be out? If we base the new tier list where characters stood in CGoH and then look at the different adjustments they made in the game. Then factor in the new characters it should be pretty easy to come up with a tier list. It may be a bit premature but it should be a decent indicator.
I think you’re kidding me when you say that Tekkaman Blade doesn’t do enough damage…
I have only played this for a single week, so I can only give my opinion on what I saw…
I think ryu/chun/yatterman-1/zero are gonna have a high placing in the tier lists (not sure about yatter-1 as I just love playing around with him :P)
with that being said, the game is really awesome and almost perfectly balanced imo
“Too Early” and “Premature” mean the same thing.
The tiers from cgoh dont mean anything. Too many characters got too many changes, and the entire TvC system received tons of tweaks as well.
So here are two bonus reasons why its too early.
1.) The top tvc players (the players who actually competed at CGoH) do not even close to agree on a list yet.
2.) There are virually no results to use to help in the discussion. And only live, in person tournament results count. And most of the tournaments so far have 2-3 actual CGoH top players in them, and the rest of the entries are basically new to TvC. Being new to TvC and deciding that you think you understand how the tiers will shape up the 2nd week after release is beyond silly.
You’re right but it’s such a buzz kill. I’d rather speculate an unofficial tier list than wait for an official one .
I guess I’ll speak from real match experience and point out some stuff I’ve seen and feel about the characters. Not judging by videos but people I’ve played that did well int he previous game.
Batsu: They nerfed his fireball loop but now he has some dive kick loop that does a shitload of damage for no meter. Seems like he can get it mid screen too somehow and batsu has a really fast air dash normal that’s got a good hit box and can cross up. His ground pokes are decent as well and they added invincibility to his uppercut so it seems he has a few more options. His counters got nerfed a bit but they still have uses in the right situation. I’d say just because his raw damage got buffed and his best aspect (instant air dash game) is still in tact, he’s better than he was before.
Karas: He seemed pretty bad at first but after playing a good Karas I don’t think he’s as bad as initially thought. He still controls the ground game pretty well and he can get about 18k off a ground combo and since throws are better, throw into level 3 is a little more threatening. His assist is still great, and 2B is still one of the best pokes in the game. If you have an assist to cover the overhead it’s not bad either, adds a little more mix up to his game (although… not that hard to see if you look for it).
Souki: His damage got buffed and now he can use his 2B which helps him a lot. He’s still got the same old “don’t do anything the whole match, then hit them once and kill them” playstyle he had before but he just does it better. His 5B covers air dashes very well and he’s really hard to approach if your character has poor range on their pokes. You’ll need a good defense playing him but I see a lot of tournament potential with this character since he can kill so easy with very little red life.
Zero: I think the people saying he’s not that good haven’t fought a good Zero yet. People around here said the same thing but after playing my Zero it seems they’re saying he’s the new Karas.
Tekkaman: He still has cross up gimmicks and high damage. His pokes got sped up somewhat apparently. He was good in the first TVC and I think he will be good in this one as well. Seems otherwise, nothing got nerfed at all from him.
Megaman: I don’t get why people say he’s good. His pokes still suck and his zoning is not hard to get around. He does ass for damage. Sure his super is fast but it’s weak and so is Megaman so have fun getting hit after you just blew your meters on the gun super.
Joe the Condor: Don’t get hit. Granted it’s not hard if you know how to hold down back and stand up if they jump but just… don’t get hit. He’s got damage and movement going for him atleast so I guess we’ll just have to give it time and see if that’s enough.
IDK it just seems as though every character has combos that are very damaging so just say ZOMG his combo does X amount of damage isn’t even. I see on your list you don’t mention Ryu Chun Jun or Ken then Eagle at all. Why is that did no one play them? Also people need to realize that any character can look good in the hands of a good player. The same way good characters can look bad when bad players play them. Megaman zoning is legit.
Well particularly the ones I listed were almost all high damage characters. I didn’t list ryu and chun because the people playing them weren’t really good enough to comment on it… didn’t really give them a chance to press buttons lol.
But as far as I’ve played with Ryu, he’s still good… seems he can still do the same shit he did before really. So yeah he’s good. Chun… she’s got good pokes, but I don’t find her that threatening really for some reason… never did even when she had an infinite. Seems like her stuff is easy to push block out and whiff punish so she has to be careful with her strings. Plus she doesn’t really have any mix up. Haven’t fought a good Ken player. Our top ken player is still in Japan atm. I personally think Ken is good though. He’s fast, has good air normals, can combo off his overhead. He can’t run away so well but he’s still very mobile. Also his projectile is really good for getting in on people.
Megaman is legit. His control over space, mobility, meter building, and the amount of free damage he can get off simple shit is just really good. Hes a solid character.
Alex is S tier
A tierlist won’t be remotely accurate right now.
As far as I could tell, every character is viable at high-level play.
(besides maybe lightan lmao)
So what does it matter?
IMO Ippatsuman and Polimar have more potential than people seem to be noting,
so keep them in mind if you are going to speculate.
Joe the Condor has crazy potential as well.
Also, no statistics from netplay are not relevant.
So try not to consider what you experience online.
That’s my two cents.
Safest character in the game, if not, one of the safest character in the game. Is an all around advanced character that can be played a plethora of ways. A single poke can mean 15b easy and ONE HOLE METER, while might be below average, its still respectable for what he can do. Has the BEST keep away/camping game and THE BEST, hands down, turtling/defense. Can reflect projectiles, stall in air longer than most characters, has practically 2 air dashes in mid air PER JUMP. Build’s a fuck ton of meter. Can literally survive of a sliver of health by completely ignoring the concept of Chip. Can work with anyone’s assist, even blades, while sporting a multi-hit AA assist of his own. Has options for almost any situation. Hard counters 2 sole characters on his own. Has one of the best level one supers in the game that can even punish characters who successfully hit megaman with a special or a super. And all the while, this dude consistently carries around a projectile that does 12b and builds 90% of a single bar that takes no more than 5 seconds to charge and only requires you to let go of a single button.
Megaman is no-less than A tier. I swear to you this.
Super Super solid.
Does the S stand for “suck” by any chance?
Just kidding. I have fought some good Alex players, but I think Alex’s biggest problem is he’s too predictable.
My Tek B opinions are more encompassing than that. I think only one person used him at the tourney and he did not know how to use him. I’ve included what I’ve seen you do with him at the release party/FADC streams, how I’ve seen him used online, and the random youtube expositions among other things. I’ve yet to see anything that ridiculous.
You’re obviously more knowledgeable about the game so I will take your word on it, but I feel like people are giving him the SF4 Sagat treatment when he’s really not that high. He seems more like a Rufus if that makes any sense.
Tekkaman Blade and Zero are top tier :x
