Marn was not really overhyping anything. The combo that he found, and subsequently was posted by someone later on when those Kubo vids came out is serious. That shit will kill you and you will get almost no meter for it.
People need to stop just bashing on Marn cause everyone else does it. His Karas is the real fucking deal, and what he found was a big discovery. He was just trying to sneak a win with it, and someone else found it before then. AND HE STILL GOT SECOND AT SINSATION ANYWAY.
Marn’s Karas is serious business, yes, but he was overhyping it. He said himself, he doesn’t like the game and he wanted people to stop playing it. He had already lost a bunch of rounds to JWong even when he said that his Karas was invincible on the boards. We don’t even know if those combos were what he was talking about because he still hasn’t come forwards and said so. He also said he thinks most people on SRK are scrubs, and that’s a big reason why he felt fine talking shit. So, take that as you will.
The point is, he, and others, said that Karas was unstoppable and we’d all see when anybody who won would just play Karas. That didn’t happen. This doesn’t mean he’s not a serious player, those matches with Jwong are some of my favorite so far, but Karas isn’t unstoppable, as long as you know what to do against him. Like I said before, learn your matchups.
Agreed! I’ve got to learn how to set it and forget it. I do have the whole video, including the end that YouTube cut off in 1080p. I just can’t find free software that will split it.

SRK is a bunch of scrubs and this just proves the point. Do you guys travel to tournaments? Do you guys ever show results? Keits goes and talks like he’s on my / Justin’s level, saying that that video looks a lot like him / j1n’s casuals … SURE. He play the game for mad long, and floe’s 2nd day playing, and he gets 4th and floe gets 1st… But when a top player loses to a top player, everyone is like NAH FUCK THAT KARAS ISN’T THAT GOOD BECAUSE IF JUSTIN CAN BLOCK IT, WE ALL DEFINITELY CAN BLOCK IT. You guys can block Karas’ shit but not Floe’s day one basics right? OKAY.

Sorry I’m busting this out in a tier speculation thread, but quite frankly, you guys are just bashing on about how Karas is nothing when he ran through the whole tournament EASILY, I 2-0’d everyone and they all died within 30 seconds. I said in the interview, my shit was basic, it’s just all about smarts. Listen man, nobody’s saying Karas isn’t good or shit, the point is if you’re a better player than your opponent you can beat him. Yeah I’m not JWong, neither is anybody but JWong, I’m not gonna hit psychic lvl3s on anybody, but this shows that someone can win even if they don’t pick Karas, so long as they know wtf they’re doing. I’m not trying to disrespect your shit or anything, but really, we gotta go off the results, i.e. best there was a jun/chun not a Karas/something. Maybe not because they’re better characters, but because they’re able to beat Karas with a better player behind them.

See this shit is the real problem with the community. The reason people don’t come out to tourneys more might be because nobody’s interested in forming a good community of players around these games anymore. Most people are more interested in talking shit about how this person will get owned or how that person will get owned rather than trying to help these people get better and encourage them to play the game, which, if I’m not mistaken, is the point of SRK. This is not the kind of shit we need, particularly for a game with a built-in limiter for the audience.
I don’t care who you are or how good you are, that shit doesn’t matter if nobody wants to play anymore, so stop being cocks.

I didnt play vs Floe in the tournament. I also choked in every game all day that day. Bad days, man. We all have em. Remember the first vids of you playing that got posted by Ski? I mean, I lost in j1n in tournament… whom i have a 80% or better win rate on. It happens.
The difference here is that you are talking shit on me, and Im just talking about a character in a game, not your level or anything like that. Solid play in the finals video, sure, but nothing that we havent seen before, or that we dont know exists, or anything that even looks remotely invinicible. No one is saying you played poorly. They aren’t even saying Karas is a bad character. The two camps of thought on this are really similar. Half of you think Karas is in a tier of his own, and the other half of us think he is tops, but he sits there with other characters who are also insanely dangerous and solid.

Your gameplay does look like me and j1n’s casuals. You may have more tournament placings under your belt than me, but that doesnt change the fact that you are playing the same game we are playing, very similarly to the way we are playing it. Obviously, there are things that can separate you and I, like being able to handle tournament pressure, or having access to a variety of real competitiors (while I only have one)… and that doesnt mean im going to come beat you or start winning all tournaments, either. You gotta learn to actually read what is in front of you and calm down for a minute, man. What are you doing here? What are you trying to prove? Most of us are here because we love the game and want to compete, simple as that.

I respect what you’re saying man, it’s not just top players, it’s a whole mentality here. Idiots taking shits on pros, idiots taking shits on idiots, good players taking shits on other good players, what we need to do is use this board for what it’s intended, and try to improve our game overall, regardless of where you stand. There are a few of us here who are trying to have legitimate discussion and figure out things about the game, while a majority of people here are just interested in saying “you don’t know shit you’re a dumbass.” This applies to good players and idiots alike. I’m just trying to get people to see that this shit is getting us nowhere, and sometimes I feel like it’s the good players who should be able to be confident enough in themselves to move the discussion away from that rather than having to pound their chests all the time, but maybe that’s unfair to them.
Just so nobody comes back with the “back your shit up” defense, again, that isn’t what this thread is about. I’ll be the first to admit I’m not a top player. I like to think I’m ok, I’ve had a good amount of experience playing here in Japan, but I’ve never won a tournament. I’d definitely get beaten by Marn or Jwong, sure, but I like to think I wouldn’t embarrass myself, and I’m here interested in discussing things and improving my game.
Back on topic though, do you guys think Casshern deserves a bump in the teirs now? He can do around 20k off of a knee now (invincibility) with baroque, or go into an otg infinite from it with 3 levels.
Maybe I’m just old school that way but I’ve always been of the belief that players who can’t beat others shouldn’t be offering them criticism, regardless of whether they feel it’s constructive. I’m all about community building, I’ve spent the last six years helping develop and grow the scene in the Greater Toronto Area of Canada. New players are the life blood of any scene. However, I don’t see where someone new, or less experienced gets off criticizing those of higher talent levels. Even being a major figure within my own community, I don’t criticize certain Toronto players because I simply can’t beat them on a consistent basis. I don’t feel I’ve earned that right. I’ll work hard to improve my game and if I can start to beat them sure I’ll say “well I can take you now because (fill in the blank here).” In any case, I see your point that we all need to work together and I agree in principle but I believe we disagree in execution.
