TvC: Tier List Speculation

Well since yatterman has a infinite and a pretty crazy one at that he might get more attention.
Doronjo is awesome, she can almost control the stage with her assists and she does a gud amount of damage.
Hurricane = combo Freak but I havent seen any ground-breaking combos with him in an actual match.
Megaman is a bitch to deal with when he goes on the defensive, plus he has an infinite as well that i guess works in corners only.
Ken has almost no unsafe moves, some problems with his standing hits not connecting cuz of how tall he is but i believe he has potential.

There are NO combos like that whatsoever in MvC2, BTW.

Both WM and Wolverine owns Strider now that the game is well developed.

Lately I’ve been playing Yatterman and Morrigan more and I like them both. Morrigan can actually have a good rushdown with her funky instant overhead jumps and she’s pretty versatile.

By the way, about Karas…the thing that bothers me most about him is that beating him is so problematic that he feels like 2 characters. If you were unlucky, you’ll have expended a lot of your character’s energy defeating him, and then the opponent still has another partner for you to deal with???

You have to deal with him differently that most characters, but you can do it. Like, don’t you love how karas players say that Alex cant fight him, when all Alex has to do is turtle until karas gives him his 3rd level and then find a tiny tiny hole to land hyper bomb in… mega crash out of that!

You guys have to think outside the box. VC him right away, make him scared to attack after that. Mix up your areal approaches so that he cant stuff it for free each time. Find moves that beat his standing B (they exist).

I have had decent success jumpblocking a lot as Alex and then punishing Karas’s whiffs with a dive roll. Like a lot of sword users in fighting games, Karas’s attacks for the most part are not meaty. So sometimes I can get through the gaps. It certainly seems to work well against his low sweeps to some degree. (other characters triangle kicks too.)

But I don’t like Alex much. He scares me. Something about him…

I’ve yet to see any combos in SF4 so far that string like good GoF combos. Especially not if it’s Madoi Takeda or one of the other combo-oriented characters. However, resists in GoF can reduce the number of hits in a combo significantly, meaning that the person who’s on the offense needs to moderate their combos to accomodate for the opponent’s skill at resists.

Also, why does nobody take GoF seriously besides the art style? The gameplay is rock solid and it’s an excellent game!

THANK YOU! Not only does Alex have that, but he can air block Karas’ standing C, push block it, and counter with his dive attack. What you do after that is your own business, but you should get at least 13K.

Tonight I learned that Daimo beats up on Karas rush down pretty nicely. His QCF+AB super can be used to punish just about all of Karas’ ground moves. You often don’t even need a push block.

If this is true, then Karas would be proverbially fucked in this match-up because DHCing out of that super on the 4th hit leads to mega damage, AND you can dash after the animation of that super’s over and net Daimao’s DP Super for free during your opponent’s recovery state (timing’s a little strict, but it’s completely possible), which adds up to something like 28-30K damage. I’m going to go to training mode to confirm this, but if this is true, then Daimao with bar is the vain of every Karas player.

EDIT: Yep, push-blocking anything, except 5A and 2A, will net Daimao a free QCF Super. Nice find; the only down-side is that Karas can perform his 5B and 2B pokes outside of Daimao’s super range, but so long as you know the ranges then you can screw Karas for getting too ansy.

Speaking of Daimo…anyone else notice doing combos on him is kind of different? A lot of things don’t work on him, he has a weird ass hitbox.

For what it’s worth, Daimo is a stupid character. I hate “wacky” characters like him lol.

Yeah, Daimao’s hitbox is unique. Sometimes that’s a blessing in that some combos don’t work so well, but other times, as is the case with Karas’ infinite, it’s a detriment.

alex can not beat karas and i seen you play wit your alex against a weak karas. VC will not work he can get around it. when karas starts pressuring wit standing b and cr.b from a safe distance.VC wont work cause what will happen is your character will come in trying to counter a long safe poke and the character will just whiff or get hit. VC only will work on karas if he is in your face playing unsafe and dumb. even up close when he is doing cr.a you VC its safe for him. i think karas is just broken and i dont know what they were thinking when they made him…keits want to mm at evo?

That’s the inherent problem. If Karas does nothing but attack you with 5B and 2B from a safe range, guess what, he’s doing nothing. Who cares if he can hold you down with those two moves from a safe distance when it doesn’t lead to anything productive. He absolutely must play “unsafe and dumb” if he wants to actually hit you, and, as playing “unsafe and dumb” entails, he leaves himself open to counter-attack, to punishment; the sort of thing he isn’t equipped to handle with.

Guy with Naruto name: If you think Karas is broken, it is you who lacks decent competition to show you otherwise.

He is good, yeah. But he doesnt sit in a tier alone.

I actually think that Karas deserves to be in a tier of his own, but I’ll wait until the tournament at Sinsation passes to see (I think Marn will win with Karas)

Someone winning with a character doesnt put that character in a tier of their own, mind you. Chun wins most US 3s tournaments, but its still widely agreed that she sits in the same tier as Ken and Yun.

daimo is weird. i havent sat down and practice against him, but when i just be spazing on the computer for shits and giggles, the karas infinite fucks up for me everytime. i thought he was one of the characters you could do on both sides.

today im going to sit down and do combos on small characters, and daimo. i honestly need to read up on giant stuff, and get in some practice time on the characters, so i wont get beat by some random giant scrub. i just hate even facing a giant. so stupid.

i dont like goofy characters either. are people forgetting that if you have it, you can just call in your assist to have your standing c safe from punishment, and then just play safe karas until you can assist again and put on the string pressure. jump in on karas wildly, standing b, c, launcher, air raid, for quick damage. to easy

It’s obviously a waste of time to argue with your extreme views and fanatism, so I’ll just go ahead and watch everyone else disagree with you on this thread, and the Matchups thread. And no, I have no plans to go to FR.

There aren’t. Marvel has undizzy, which is basically a megacrash that always happens no matter what if you’re comboing normals. Without supers, it is impossible to kill. You can go through the thousands of vids on Preppy’s or on the Internet and you won’t find a single time where Mag does a 100% combo without bars. You never saw it because it is not possible. It is impossible unless you use a gameshark.

It actually can be done in very specific situations, like Anakaris infinite that can be undizzied or some unblockable stuff, but nothing close to what happens in TvC if your opp has no bars.
