J1n, I meant that Chun can’t deal with giants ON HER OWN wheras Karas can.
Anyone can pick Tekkaman as their assist and auto-win against the giants.

Yeah, they may as well be counted as ranged attacks.
I guess I should have said doesn’t matter as much at high level… The difference in difficulty of the infinites themselves is negligible, imo. While Chun’s corner to corner set up is significantly more difficult than Karas’ brain dead easy loop till corner, it’s nothing that can’t be learned with a little practice; even the first part of the set up, which is just a basic Baroque/assist combo, will carry nearly half screen.
No doubt about Tekkaman having best meterless damage. His basic j.C, B, 2B, C, 3C^, sj.Bxx[2]8C, [2]8C hits for like 25K
So what does everyone think of Yatterman’s 100% 1 meter combo?
Pointless as fuck when they’re over 2 bars. Not going to last long if they’re at 1 bar. LOLTASTICALLY RAPE when they’re at zero.
Haha. Still, it’s a nice way to make them waste 2 bars, and does damage faster than some infinites for sure.
Yatterman is also not a bad pressure character, so it’s nice to know he can do this sort of thing,
fixed.
it looks hard as hell lol.
The truth is we actually have no idea with Karas will even be top tier in the long run. Cable seemed to own MvC2, Wolverine/Strider seemed to own MvC1, Chun/Cyc seemed to own XSF arguable), until people got deeper in each game. Cable sucks nowadays, Wolvie and Strider are strong but fair, and apparently XSF is ruled by Storm.
Patches are made for the sake of casual players. It is a cool way to give fun without much effort. Cable sucks today because people worked really hard in their games and reached levels far beyond what Cable can do. Most gamers don’t wanna do that. They’re casual gamers, but that’s actually no harm with a patch since everybody will be playing the same game. It is just a bitch against the good players who overpowered tactics from Cable, Wolvie and soon enough Karas.
The tourney scene is a whole other thing. When you ban something you stop playing TvC and starts playing TvCless or whatever. New people won’t be able to play TvC in tourneys - they’ll have to lean TvCless. If you know for sure that something means a win button and there’s nohng that the JWongs and Daigos can figure against it, then OK, the game sucks and we should play something else (or do bans and see if the game still sucks).
To know things to that extent you need many tournaments (it took like 3 years for Cable to be outshined in tourney results for MvC2). Right now we don’t know shit. Banning things at this point is stupid and childish IMO, and that’s exactly what makes communities such as SSBB get the reputation of stupid and childish alng more experienced competitve players (no GoW or SSBB players has more experience in competition than guys like Seth or Valle, just to make it clear)
To sum it up, say no to bans
It would suck. NO game bans infinites for a reason. And Marvel doesn’t even have true infinites because of undizzy. You’re just complaining about long combos, then short combos, then combos. Maybe you should stick to Gleam of Force.
Lol…‘it would suck’…nice explanation. You totally convinced me as to why broken elements should be allowed.
In any competitive fighting game, a combo that goes from 0% to 100% without meter or any other kind of special condition while the opponent can do nothing is an imperfection and bad game design/oversight.
If you’re so adamant on players learning to deal with problems, then why would it be so hard for them to deal with the changes that a patch presents? “oh dear, I can’t win by sticking to a single strategy/combo/character now? OH POO!”
And Gleam of Force is way more balanced than this game…well, besides Ruki and Negai maybe. There are no ‘broken’ strategies or combos. It’s all down to timing, spacing, mindgames and skill. If you get 0-death’d in GoF then you need to learn how to resist.
Either way, GoF is more combo-oriented than say…ooooh…SF4 >:/
But in GoF, you can actually do something about your opponent’s combos thanks to resists.
Infinites have always been allowed except for time wasting dead body ones. It’s an accepted part of competitive fighting game tradition that “hey! If you can do that combo, then do it.” If you don’t want to get hit by it, then either play smarter or try and catch them in your own infinite first. It’s not like Karas has the only practical one.
While this is a completely fair and correct point, I can’t see why you would bring it up here, because in the vs games that is simply not applicable. In Marvel an infinite is not going to kill more than one character, and there’s a lot of finesse to the system that means most really won’t even kill one by themselves. In TvC, there’s burst, so unless you get one right at the start because someone just sucks at defense it’s going to get bursted before you even kill one character. On the one hand, you can just say it’s just a matter of landing two infinites… But it really only takes 2-3 good combos to kill a guy anyway, so what does it matter? From my standpoint, that doesn’t really affect the balance of the game. They’re just better combos than most.
Admittedly, infinites present an unpleasant aesthetic, and they definitely can ruin more traditional fighting games, but the vs games there’s nothing terribly unbalancing with them. Getting rid of infinite in Marvel might make more combinations worth playing, but why would we try, when the game’s already perfectly playable as it is? As it is, the game is centralized around such shenanigans. To ban them would be to completely destroy the established balance, and that’s just a pointless move. In TvC, signs point to them not being broken, and while the game is still too new to know for sure, they also can’t be condemned at the start, and thus complaining now before we know how it stands is pointless.
Fighting against Karas is ridiculously difficult for me. I’m not saying to ban him, but discussion on what to do against him is encouraged. It seems once he gets in and has an assist that can help keep pressure on, its nearly impossible to get anything going.
Patience, Advance Guard, Super Jumps, Invincible Attacks, and Variable Counter all help greatly against Karas.
If Karas has a helpful assist you get one or two chances to escape from his pressure maybe once or twice every 5 seconds. You have to wait for those holes and take advantage of them.
Typically it looks something like he does a long string, calls out an assist, does another long string, then if you pushblock correctly you have an opportunity to SJ out before he can start another long string, call the assist again, etc.
Also if you think you have a hole it’s usually much better to jump away then try to attack, usually your attack will get stuffed or outranged.
Eh. You’re right. Besides, it’s a tag team game. Even if it all comes down to using Karas, people will still have plenty of options when it comes to choosing a partner. And there are other characters with silly infinites. (Yatterman!)
I guess I’m just sore because I wanted to main PTX.
I’ll give this game until Final Round…somebody is going to break this game beyond the point of forgiveness… Marn put Karas in TWO**** tiers by himself. I’m going to Sinsation next weekend so I’ll see what they all are going on about…but as much BS as marn spits out…he knows what he’s talking about when it comes to games. He’s not a top player for no reason.
You are sore? Really? No one could tell!
Seriously, if I could I’d start handing out infractions to people who keep derailing threads with this shit, I’m sick of it…The game’s been out a couple of months. If people are expecting us to make good judgement on something that as of right now, looks too strong, we might as well stop playing all together.
I’ve got a few solutions for you cry babies…
A - Accept it, learn to deal with it and learn to punnish it
B - Learn Karas
C - Stop playing, give up and GTFO
Karas will NOT be getting banned, so just get over it…
If Karas is corner presuring you then cant you just variable conter him?
I cant get on da wii to find out since the cpu’s dont visit the boards.
You can, the issue is that it takes a level to do and you might have a hard time getting meter if you’re not able to poke much. If you have a level one super with invincibility then you might as well go with that. I can see Ryu’s Tatsu super maybe coming in handy in this match.
Well the Karas talk is getting nowhere and it’s sort of splitting the community so we might as well stop talking about him and move on to other potentially good characters.
So has anyone found any more of those Japanese Morrigan vids? I tried navigating that Nicovideo site myself and I got deathly lost…
