Tucson's Bookmans tournaments

So who are these folks you speak of?

Also if anyone out there has the xbox version of 3S (AE) and wants to get in some online games in all its glorious lag send me a friend request while Live is still free (ends tomorrow I think). I only played one person yesterday because there was really no one there but it was fun while it lasted.

Roch (who used Akuma, I beleive. And am I spelling his name right?), some guy at the last tourney that used Chun, and a friend of mine who plays Yun that might compete Sunday. There’s probably more, but, I don’t know them.

it has nothing to do with the “arcade scene”…you can still play at get togethers or with friends…the problem is people here dont understand the game of SF…on top of that they havent played it long enough or have been exposed long enough to be able to understand it…and the tricky thing is even if you have been exposed for a long period of time doesnt mean that you will understand how to play…

im outi

Roberth

I would go to golf in stuff, its just to far away, and not worth the time that was me playing Chun

Word. Tilt at the Tucson mall was, imo, the best arcade we had until it closed down.

I think that you are kinda being a Presumptuous if you assume that no one in Tucson understands SF. I think you are seriously overcomplicating the game at an intermediate tournament level. People in Tucson don’t lack an understanding of the nature of how SF is played, rather, some lack a sizable chunk of mid to high level play experience. I sincerely doubt that people in Tucson have a hard time understanding your “high level Romanian mind games” but just lack the experience of playing with someone who has played more people, gone to more tournaments and has an overall longer, more in depth experience with 3rd Strike or any other SF game for that matter. I really think this is all a matter of match experience and reliable execution.

Really, this kind of elitist mindset is borderline pompous assholism. <—just made that up.) It keeps novice to intermediate players from wanting to get good at something for fear that there is some sort of unattainable 6th sense you must have to be considered skilled at a fighting game… Lame.

Knowledge/ Experience/ Execution

That is all you need.

For mvc2 that was it. They were going to get cvs2 but never did cause i guess they changed there mind? MVC2 got old after awhile since no one wanted to play vs top tier, every scrub there would complain about stuff being cheap

A buddy and I would go at least once a month and game for a few hours playing Mvc2, SvC, PJ, and some other random stuff but there was never any comp. I miss that Tilt, although it was obvious it was going to go under sooner or later.

Hey, Jorge when are you going to come down to Tucson again? I think its been 3-4 years since we played any games. I think you should come in two weeks for AC bookman’s tourney >.>. Or maybe sometime in November, Roman is coming back for a couple weeks in November and he wants to throw a tourney or atleast have a get together and play some games.

I see you there, ditching school.

Kyoku: I don’t mean to sound rude, but I cannot remember who you are… But I would like to come down and play sometime, cause I miss playing with people in Tucson and I would like to see Roman and Sean and Josh. I will see if it is a possibility. I am really happy that you guys have a place that is having tournies more often. That is really cool.

well if you come down again in 2 weeks is the super turbo tournament, cause I know how much you like super turbo.

No problem, this is Marvin haha, you pretty much got me and Roman into guilty gear WAAAY back in the day at Gamecrazy. I’m actually slowly trying to gather some people together to hang out and play more often, and of course for Roman’s home coming tourney. I’ll be going over to Rob’s on Sunday… maybe we can get in a couple rounds if you can go.

Jorge is right but I think Roberth has a point, too.

A lot of people I’ve played don’t understand basics of SF, like wake up game, or how to use dp’s correctly. Like, why is it that I can trip someone 4 times in a row before they realize to block? C’mon, that shit shouldn’t work.

A lot of people like to mash buttons too. It is a good strategy, I admit, but for a lot of players their knowledge of mashing is really limited, and will do it whenever they get the chance.

It’s also the fact that no one here goes to out of state tournaments. Tucson would be 10 times better if our players traveled OOS. It makes a huge difference. You see a lot of different styles so it helps break you from the patterns you learn from playing the same Tucson people all the time.

Well Tucson has a lot of scrubs and can only play by the book. Theres to many people here that are narrow minded and wont learn, people need to learn you have to use everything you have to win. And stop thinking about things being cheap. Those people never win

I think most players lack info as to where to find OOS tournies, where to find match-ups out of city even, etc. I mean anyone could find all that here, but somebody who doesn’t really know much about the gaming community (which we seem to lack pretty bad in tucson) might not be able to find forums like this. There isn’t much we can do about that other then: keep getting together and playing even if its only once a week, or maybe even just spread info like this outside of the forums.

not really ive tried to get people to play before at Gold n stuff and Tilit, there just scrubs that complain about cheap stuff.

Ugh…I hate the term scrub. Sorry but there is something about it that I just hate, probably because it sounds elitist.

Hawk, how is the SRK hate machine treating you?

LOL, j/p

I guess it sounds elitist, but theres no point in getting people to play if there just going to complain about cheap crap

Lately I’ve been trying to get my bros. into fighting games and I can’t tell you have many times they have cried “cheap”. What I do is I stop doing what they consider to be cheap (temporarily) and work with them on what they should do if that “cheap” tactic shows up again. I find that helping them understand how to counter what they find cheap through practice makes them more comfortable with playing the game and actually makes them more interested in the game. It all takes time.

That’s how it is today. If you want more people to play show them how to play and work with them when they encounter a problem in the game. When they cry cheap don’t just brush them off as a scrub, give them advice on what they can do to counter that cheapness. Practice with them. Tell them what their options are. Baby steps.
