I would expect the turnout to be similar to last time but obviously I have no way of knowing who’s going to show up. 3S is still one of the most popular fighters out so it attracts a large group, as compared to say, Clay Fighter.
Also when people “play to win” they usually use the best characters in the game, two of them being Ken and Chun so expect some more of them. I’m still surprised that I haven’t seen many Yun players though.
I should have said, why would he cancel it? Anyway im going to play at seans house to night play some 3rd strike and some A3 if anyone else wants to come, im going around like 10:30pm
This Sunday, Sept. 30th: Street Fighter III:Third Strike.
Sunday, Oct. 7th: Super Street Fighter II Turbo.
Sunday, Oct. 14th: Guilty Gear XX Accent Core.
This way, people have a little more time to dig up a copy and get familiar with GGXX-AC. I personally adore SSF2T so I wouldn’t mind seeing that ASAP.
Between all my homework and Halo 3, it’s gonna be Sunday before I know it.
:looney:
I’m NOT surprised there aren’t too many Yun players. Yun’s Genei Jin combos actually take skill, and many are position dependent. Hit confirming a c.mk into super is brain dead in comparison.
While Yun is a harder character to use as compared to Ken/Chun he doesn’t have a terribly steep learning curve. You can combo into his Genei Jin on a lot of things and his juggles can range from being very simple to complicated depending on what you want to do with him.
I was comin from rancho vistoso and oracle, a little further in… regardless, just as far… sucks, but I hope you get better HundredHands… Lookin forward to some 3s locally
.:wonder:
yun, now that is a funny character…fuck the bullshit all you need to do is jump back wiff attacks get meter and randomly activate and you for the most part will still do damage…
That’s exactly why you don’t see many Yun players; he’s an incredibly difficult character to play. His controls are fast and leave virtually no room for mistake (especially in Genei-Jin), and his basic BnB combo will screw you over if your timing isn’t perfect.
That, plus the fact Yun has a tendancy to use all six buttons more equally than, say, a shoto (I’ve played rounds against a Ryu that used ONLY :hk: and :hp: - who won), is an example of why people don’t start using him until they’re absolutely flawlessly accurate on the controls.
The “best characters” weren’t being used… the easiest were. The last time I attended I saw a glorious lack of the more complicated characters such as Urien, Yun, or Dudley (maybe there might’ve been a Dudley; I wasn’t paying much attention). Tier lists only get so far, IMHO. It all comes down to whatever character you can play better.
For example, even though Ken is a higher tier, personally I use Akuma for my main. Granted the low health, Akuma is stronger, faster, has better combos, and has five super arts (seven if you count aerials as seperate SAs) - versus Ken, who I see as having very low ranged combos (they all start out with a standing :mp:, I think?) , and is only decent because of his third super art. I pick Akuma, I win. I pick Ken, I lose. Skill can absolutely destroy any advantages/disadvantages a tier list might represent.
urien is NOT top in japan. part of the problem being that hes not easy to use at all. and he has some rather shitty matchups to average characters …cough…ryu…cough…akuma…cough
wish i could man, im goin outta town for my birthday, but i might come for super turbo… or i may stay in for two weeks and just play lots of AC and see how i do at that tourney… ill make it out eventually.
Dudley ain’t top tier, but he’s still badass. And yes, Urien is ridiculously difficult to play.
Because our arcade scene (besides a while back at the U of A) is, and has been, absolutely dead. I think Golf ‘n’ Stuff has SF EX and KOF XII in the way of fighting games, and apart from an SFA2 machine at this particular Bookman’s, that’s all we have. I personally have only been able to seriously get started with Third Strike since the emulation of CPS3 back in June/July; and now I’m so used to a keyboard my knowledge of the game doesn’t matter at all when I’m on a pad or a stick.
So speak for yourself, but I know there’s at least three decent 3Sers in Tucson. :lame:
