When I say his system dosent make sense it really doesnt, cause it’s not even round robin or brackets. Its just a system he made up him self. Like theres been a few times were people only got 1 loss the whole tournament and they still get 4th place? Which im like wtf I think he just doesnt want some people to win.
the quick, painless, scrubby win in a3 is just picking x-chun and doing crossup into s.fierce, then c.rh. and thats it. its a definite scrub/moderate player killer
Sounds like my A3 Chun. Her jumping short is such an easy crossup. Add in upkicks and c.rh as anti-air and a winner is you…
newsflash, thats EVERY x-chun in a3. =) every x-chun plays exactly the same. i honestly think shes the most one dimensional character ive ever seen in a real fighter, and can actually get some decent results. rising kicks are worthless btw. her normals are better priority and they cant be air blocked
only way youll get better is to play people not the cpu
Um…yeah. I would play more SFA but the only other guy who I game with regularly and who still consistently plays fighters hates the Alpha series so…
Also lseelba, I won’t be able to do any gaming with you this weekend, maybe next. I’ll PM you later.
i think his system is kind of interesting really…i havent really seen anything wrong with it so far…i dont know why you beat sean i didnt really watch that match but honestly i really cant play on jap sticks…like i cant dp on them so its hard to do anything without a dp, and i have issues with full half circle motions on jap sticks as well…i just never practiced on them to get used to them so its like a handicap…pretty big handicap especially when you do active dp with akuma and you get s.lp hahahaha…
i guess its better than doing qcb x2 punch and getting qcf x2 punch, that stick is amazing…roch bought some parts for a new stick but i hadnt seen him in a while, that tourney was the first time in like weeks, he is probably busy with school…

ya but theres been times when people only get 1 loss and they get 4th??? Kind of like wtf… Ya and I dont play fighters also only when bookmans throws down a tournament ive been busy with other things. Couldnt beat Roch cause I wasnt drunk enough lol
You should have snuck more schnapps into the tourney
ya, well all that matters is the semis, top 4 people, and if you lose there then you are out of luck and you would have to lose twice in the semis to get 4th…not sure how that person only lost once and got 4th, maybe it was ran differently back then???

see all of you tomorrow at 2!
3S tourney cancelled. Too bad too because I actually practiced for this one. I’ll ask James if we’ll be playing 3S next week or if we’re going to GGAC.
This is James, and I’d like to explain my system a bit.
It is the way it is because given the extremely difficult nature of attracting players and getting them to show up, it had to be built so that it could be run easily no matter who showed up. There’s nothing worse than organizing and bracketing something where 50% of the players don’t show. When players sign up, I do my best not to place people who came together right next to each other so they don’t fight their own friends right off the bat, as that completely sucks. The names are shuffled, we start off with the first two and then go down the list. You win five in a row, you get a bonus two points and are skipped over the following round.
The four players with the most points are seeded according to score and placed in the semis.
I can see the validity of some complaints because some people end up losing to the same people in the rotation, but that’s why someone who wins 5 in a row gets held out, so someone else can have a better shot in the next loop. Again, you should be focused on your tactics and why you lost, not so much “Ohmigod I have to play that guy again.”
As for the complaint where somebody only lost once and didn’t get in the semis, that is literally IMPOSSIBLE. In an average Bookman’s tourney, they’d have something like 14-21 points and would be a shoo-in for the semis. If you doubt, I’ll bust out a pen and do the math for you. Literally could not happen.
I think the semis are proof of the solid nature of the system. The really good peeps always end up in the top 4 spots. Maybe it isn’t as satisfying as a full-on round robin system, but again, I had to create something that would withstand a whole lot of flaky players. The few times OHT came out to play, he found the arrangement to be fair considering what I was working with. If my system was shit, we’ve been friends long enough that he would definitely tell me. If people want to suggest a better method of organizing things now that we seem to be gaining momentum and having a consistent pool of regulars, I’m 100% down. Has to be done some other time than right in the middle of a tournament though.
As for me “not wanting some people to win,” again, pure comedy. I get paid the same no matter who wins. All I want to see is a competitive tournament that gets people psyched to practice and play better. If the same friends of mine were winning week after week, that would be counter-productive, wouldn’t it?
Seriously, if you have ideas for how it can be done better, hit me with a PM here.
I’ve been registered here for a long time but seldom post, but if this is a way to work out the kinks and have better tourneys I’m all ears.
I dont think its shit I just didnt understand. Cause there was the one time that guy showed up for the Soul Cal 2 tournament and he lost 1 time the whole time there and he got 4th. JT also didnt understand.
Y was the tourney cancelled? I drove all the way from Ina and Thornydale. Fuckers!
I’m sorry man…I organize and officiate these events and I’ve got the flu.
I appreciate everyone who comes out…this is the first one I’ve missed since I had to go to Dallas for a convention back in July.
i honestly think the system is fine…josh is just tripping and like i said it is impossible for a dude to just loose once and get 4th…if you make it to the semis you HAVE to lose twice to get 4th…cause if you lose once you have to play for 3rd place…
anyway, you still having 3rd strike…this coming sunday???

Yeah that was my friend “other” Steven. He had the undefeated Nightmare. He only had one loss and that was when he played Voldo ONCE in the finals and lost and he finished 4th. Needless to say he was a bit confused, as was I.
Anyway, I think the Bookmans tourneys are great and now that I understand what you have to go through and the way your system works it makes more sense now.
Rolling Crystal Flash Edit: Here’s the message I received from James
“Yeah, it will be 3S next week…I figured I’d just delay it instead of
cancelling it outright.”
GGAC? But it’s so soon.
Anyway, just a little curious; what’s expected to be the turnout next Sunday? The last few Third Strike tournies I’ve attended were ridiculously packed…it was kind of hard to play under that pressure, plus it tends to get really crowded.
And hopefully there’ll be a more unique choice of characters this time - is everybody as sick of Ken/Ryu/Chun as I am?
why cancel 3rd strike when everyone is preparing for it?
