About the pacing, I think it’s fine. The pacing is about the same as last season, thing is people just aren’t dying this season. Last season people were getting fucked up left and right and it left room to concentrate on Bill, Sookie, Sam, Lafayette, Tara and Jason and him fucking dime pieces. Everyone else was pretty much secondary to those 6. Now we get even more cool characters like Maryann and Eric. I mean if Daphne was in season 1 she’d be dead by now. If Maryann was a human and not what she actually is she’d be dead too. Same with Sarah (preacher’s wife) and a few others. Last season every episode you expected someone to get killed in the next one.
Since it’s not like that atm anymore it’s become more character driven. We also have more characters to focus on since they’re not getting killed every episode. You don’t need to know every damn thing all at once. I mean we got to see a glimpse of Maryann at the end of season 1 and wanted to know more about her. Now in season 2 we get to see that:
- She can control Sam’s transformations.
- She feeds off people’s emotions and can inflict pleasure in them making then dance, get drunk and want to fuck.
- Sookie can’t read her mind because she thinks in a weird unknown language but isn’t a vampire.
- Uses magic.
WTF more do you want to know about her? Once everything is out there it just dilutes the character. We know about who we need to know about. There will be characters that effect others, be cool as shit and we’ll want to know everything about them. Since we know that Eric is 1,000 yrs. old we know that Maryann is older than she appears but don’t need to know her actual age. WTF is it gonna do for the story? Nothing. I think we know enough to move along and be perfectly fine. When we got to know more and more about Hannibal Lecter IMO it took the mystery and fun out of him. I seriously don’t think we are or will be “cheated” on knowing who Maryann is but I don’t think we’ll find out too much more about her than what we already know. I seriously hate when people have nothing to complain about except why they can’t know more about a character and are given a fair amount of information while keeping them interesting and a mystery.
I forsee this show lasting a good number of years w/o hiccups.
A witch most probaby, but what about the monster arms? could she be something else? maybe the show might expand on other creatures of the night.
Probably closer to a deity at least in the greek sense, she doesn’t seem like shes part of a race like vampires or shapeshifters, more like its just her, since even the vampires don’t seem to know what she is from the descriptions and the claw marks. If there were a bunch of whatever she is roaming around I think there would be more information.
Do you think this show will ever introduce a werewolf character or characters? I remember Eric mentioning someone getting mauled by a werewolf in a recent episode.
Edit: I didn’t know Brook Kerr originally played Tara. I remember her from Passions.
Probably… its just a matter of time. If that guy can transform into a dog then someone can change into the vamps natural enemy. Im surprised theres not a succubus/morrigan character in there yet…

Someone mentioned Circe earlier when the season first started. I mentioned maenad from the info I found. Michelle Forbes, the actress who plays Maryann, has said in an interview I read that Maryann is a maenad. I’m starting to think Alan Ball made her both. Circe and a maenad.
Hey that was me with Circe thing. I knew my Duck Tales knowledge would come in handy one day. Anyone remember that episode?

The pacing of the story is fine imo.
It just makes you crave more, which a show is supposed to make you feel if its being done right. I actually give a damn about most if not all the characters, not just Sookie/Bill/Tara/Jason, etc.
Maryanne definitely is some sort of ancient entity; since we saw her hands turn into those talon things, I’m wondering if she’s the monster that attacked Sookie.
Also, I’d love to see some succubus or vamp/human halfbreed character pop up sometime in the future.
EDIT: Yea Sano, Circe is a JLA villian, mostly an antihero-esque enemy of Wonder Woman; I’ve been reading the “Who is WW?” HC alot recently lol:olo:
Actually, Circe turned Wonder Woman into a pig. I remember this clearly, because Batman had to do something to make Circe change her back, which ended up being Batman singing some Sinatra-like ballad in a dance club, which I found to be hilarious. I never know Conroy was such a top-tier singer.
And my issue with Trueblood is still about the pacing with the whole MaryAnn bit. The show’s refusal to reveal MaryAnn’s true identity isn’t what’s bothering me. What’s bothering me is that the show is stuck in a rut with the MaryAnn plot. It’s not going anywhere. They’re not developing it. It’s stuck.
Because every other plotline is being developed. Bill/Sookie have been gradually been pushed towards Texas to search for Godric. Jason’s life, which seemed at a high point once he found his “calling,” is gradually coming apart because of his increasing unpopularity and fascination with the wife-lady.
But with MaryAnn. . .there’s been nothing. She’s just done the same stuff for the past 5 hours. She’s drawing power from people’s debauchery, she’s freaking out Sam, and she’s messing with Tara. We saw this back in the last season, and we’re seeing the same stuff now. This plotline isn’t going anywhere, and that’s what’s frustrating.
Yeah you’re right. I remembered the singing and thought “Wost JL episode EVER!” Looking back I don’t think that anymore and it’s kinda funny. I guess I just had a Bat-Nerd moment. “BATMAN SHOULD NOT BE LOUNGE SINGING GAWD!”
POSSIBLE SPOILER Just speculation on my part…
I dont believe Maryanne was the one who attack Sookie. The one who attack Sookie is a SATYRS & i believe the waitress Daphnee is a nymph. Im not sure if SATYRS can transform into human forms or not; if they can my guess would probably be maryanne’s butler…
the reveal for maryann would either mean the end to her as a character or that she is Aizen.
The reason shes still around is because her interaction has only been with Sam and Tara.
once they realize who she is she is either going to be hunted by bill w/ eric assist or shes going to kick Bill’s ass because in case anyone forgot she tried to kill sookie two weeks ago.
This whole Maryann thing is providing some expansion for Sama and Tara as characters and will probably get both of them laid. Otherwise what would they be filming at all in that town while Bill and Sookie were away.
I’m really hoping shes not Aizen.

It was Maryann. I read an article earlier about the actress talking about wearing the prosthetics and the having to be fed sandwiches when the head was removed from her costume. Also I think I was right about the part of her being both a maenad and Circe because in thisarticle when asked if Maryann is a hybrid Michelle Forbes answers yes. Also if you do a little search on the books and look at the synopis for “Living Dead in Dallas” it kinda gives that particular part away about her attacking Sookie.

On a side note I wanted to say whoever is editing the “Next time on…” trailers needs a giant raise. They’re perfectly balancing the hints with just enough mis-information so that when we see the scene, it doesn’t feel like retread.
Case in point: When Tara tells Mary Ann she’s moving in with Sookie.

It’s cool to see that Fighting game fans also like true blood. I just got in to this show about two weeks ago and I have caught up on all the episodes and even read the first book. We got a free 3 month subscription to HBO and I don’t think I wanna pay for it after that. So does anyone know where I can watch it online? Or should I just download a torrent?
Anyway this is one of those rare cases where I think the books are not as good as the shows. Being that the book is narrated by Sookie you don’t get to know the other characters as well and therefore miss out on a ton of cool stuff. It is interesting to read the book to see how everything is different. Reading the book first kinda ruins the story for the show though. I’d rather watch the show and have it surprise me than have the plot unfold in the books which I find less entertaining thatn the show. I do think the books have a few cool ideas that the show left out though. Like what about Bubba, the vampire version of Elvis who was turned vamp in the morgue the day he died and is a little bit retarded because he was turned too late to be a “healthy” vampire, oh and he eats cats he’s like half Elvis half ALF. He should be in the show, they could just get some Elvis impersonator to play him.
