Tougeki 2007 Super Battle Opera Games Lineup Announced

SBO doesn’t have to give spots to international teams at all. But they do, because they welcome international competition, even when in some cases they clearly pale next to every Japanese team in comparison.

CvS2 was not on the roster last year, neither was ST, why were you expecting that it would be back this year?

O I SEE WHAT HE’s TRYING TO SAY:

the japanese can’t stand being second banana.

because an old but classic game like kof 98 is in the line up.

did no one read tsc’s post? it explains everything pretty clearly

This shit comes up every year. Get over it. CvS2 ain’t making a comeback, ST and AE both have their own dedicated big tournies, and if I remember correctly, KOREA won Tekken 5.0 way back when, and Tekken is STILL in Tougeki. So, those demanding this and that, STFU or get your ass to Japan and make them really fear us. You got enough mouth to say you’re gonna rape them in their own country, DO IT. And don’t cry and try to strawman “man I know I’d beat them in marvel” they don’t fucking play Marvel.

And once again, TSC’s post sums all the logic behind the choices up. You don’t like it, stay home and prep for Evo instead. How many of you complaining are actually gonna be at the quals?

If people havent already noticed the pattern. Japan is FULL OF SHIT! Of course theyre gonna give the US 3S every year…so what else is new they know that the US will only get but so far and will not overlap them! ST they will not put in because every Evo the US come very close if not beat them every year.Hows it gonna look if an American wins SBO honestly! Of course this brings up why they totally disacknowledged Marvel after they got scrapped at Evo. Totally dismissed …to them Marvel isnt considered real game…typical right. I expect no different next year with AE…I highy doubt they will give the US a qualifier simply because one of theyre best Daigo… lost:rolleyes: I hope they prove me wrong but we’ll see!Thats great theyre at least giving the US Tekken!
Bottom line for me I have very little respect for Japan and thats no secret just based off certain things and ONLY if Korea started playing games earlier. Theyd destroy Japan in everything they touch but thats another Topic!
Just giving my outlook on the situation so Japanese fanboys dont flame me!

Thinking about kof98, seems like other countries have a pretty good chance of winning it. Finals might be pretty exciting if it boils down to 2 different countries.

Why do you talk about Japanese players like there’s some organization responsible for deciding who gets sent over to play at Evo? The guys who go are just the guys who want to/can afford to, so statements like “they chose to send 10000000 Yuns for 3s and nobody for AE” are fucking retarded.

Daigo lost in 3S too, argument demolished.

Arcadia owes non-japan players about as much as EA Sports owes non-american players. They sell, I believe, around 0 magazines and 10 DVDs (legally) to the srk community, and probably the same in other non-japan countries.

Not sure what the complaint is, that a japan magazine isn’t excited about spending their money on a MvC2 tourney? that ST players wanting a trip to japan only have one huge ST tournament to plan for instead of SBO as well?

If people are going to put their time and money into and event, IMO they at least need the leeway to cater to their own market and decide on their own rules (see TSC’s post).

I know i’d hate it if i worked to sponsor some big tourney and hold qualifiers across the US, and some japan people went “OMG HOW DARE YOU NOT HAVE ARCANA HEART, WTF ARE YOU THINKING LOSER”.

As an aside, is there a reason noone plans for the actual big ST tournies? are they not open to americans too? Are there actual entry fees or qualifications? Can anyone shed light on this?

You obviously didn’t read a damn thing.

If the US “will only get but so far and will not overlap them”, then that’s a fucking problem with OUR players, not Japan. ST isn’t in because it’s assumed that Capcom is supporting AE, and there are a lot more working AE boards than ST right now. SF2 will be in if there’s a resurge in interest(which there was thanks to Evo + other events this past year). If an American wins Tougeki they’ll give him props just like Nin got in Tougeki’05(HOLY SHIT I GUESS YOU FORGOT ABOUT THAT SHIT:rolleyes:).

To them, a game is a game, it’s just a matter of how involved they get. And if you haven’t noticed, there are good Japanese players but not enough for anyone to care about Marvel(or the rest of the VS series, like XvSF) kinda how there’s low turnouts for Guilty Gear and Melty Blood back in the states.

I highly doubt that Tougeki staff cares that Daigo got beat when he came over for AE, considering that their big show isn’t like our Evo where the staff is a bunch of people that are deeply, or were at one time deeply, integrated into the scene. Whether ya’ll get a spot or not is all dependant on risk-reward. They’re probably not gonna give the US a chance in Arcana Heart considering how many of you guys are asking what it is when some of us have been following the game since Lokes.

As for Korea destroying Japan in everything, that’s some theory fighter at best. Especially condsidering how Tougeki’06 T5DR went, and Korea had that shit for just as long(but single elim 1 match is so random!!! That means nothing even though Korea won the year before!!!). Nowadays Asia is fairly balanced as far as releases go, the only areas behind are the Americas and Europe, as they’re so spread out it’s hard to maintain the level of constant comp and forced learning they go through.

As for asking people to not flame you, if you posted up some facts and not your overblown opinion no one would need to break your shit apart. And this is coming from a fellow NYCer, whereever I may be at the moment.

I don’t know offhand, but the tourney included with the Yoga Book Hyper was an invite-only event. I doubt the X-Manias are tho. NKI may know more on this.

Besides the game being good still, the real reason why 98 is in next year’s SBO like others have mentioned is to help advertise KOF98 Ultimate Match for PS2 (and possibly the arcade as well, SNKP hinted that they may port the Ultimate Match version of 98 to the arcade if they feel like it).

If they have entrants from the Chinas again for 2007’s SBO KOF98 tourney, then random China / Hong Kong / Taiwan / Macau player will place really high or win KOF.

So people didn’t think that SNKP are looking to promote 98 because of the 98 remake coming out soon? sheesh~ _

And lol @ the prospect of MvC2 at SBO. Really, if they don’t give a shit about the game, why whould they add it to the line up? Only US players praise MvC2.

I think in general, if you’re wondering why Game X isn’t there and you think they’re doing you some kind of disservice, you should remember that they probably don’t care what you think, and they’ll do what they feel is best for their tourney.

I wouldn’t like it if Evo was affected by what a few random japanese people said.

We really shouldn’t give a damn about what SBO decides to do with their event, if usa gets a reserve spot for any game, take it, represent, and have fun. We got Evo and the other majors. Jpn doesn’t rule the world.

You got to be smoking some serious stuff DSP, as polarity already said Japan and SBO as a whole don’t decide who should go and play at evo, its up to the individual. You got to remember that most ST players are of a slightly older generation than most other fighting game players, which means they probably got alot of other commitments. Also they have own large ST tournament in Japan, X-mania.

And yes, your saying this because you want a better chance of getting into SBO, just like with that crazy system you got for a 5v5 with Japan in ST for evo2k7. Why not just say the top 5 americans in the main tournament qualify for the US team instead of doing this complicated knockout crap?

Your totally dillusional at best Jeron, if anything its the other way round. If US doesn’t recieve hsf2 qualifier its because they think the US has got no chance in doing any good, regardless of what actually may be true. Also i don’t see how Daigo being beat has anything to do it with it. Didn’t Daigo stop playing fighters for the best part of the year, and re-emerged not long before evo? All you gotta look at is the year before at ST. Gian, a true Japan ST player, and he cleaned house. Now he is just one of many good Japanese ST players. AE is a different story altogether though, and the only reason i think US or anyone else would do any good at SBO would be because theres CPS1 characters to choose. Which is ironic in a way, cause these are the characters people like you moan about but are the only characters you could use which would give you a fighting chance.

Can we stop crying about HSF2:AE being in the roster and not ST, my fucken Monkey’s banana, how could anyone hope that HSF2 is the same as ST. God forbid that this is a different game, and is going to be used at SBO, so what, from last I saw at Evo2k6, the rankings of various characters within the Top 10 (Even with CE. Bison in the roster) was for the most part a mixed group…so again, why cry about it.

I will be honest, I never ever liked ST, I always liked Hyper Fighting out of the entire OG series, that to me was the pinnacle, however even though I do not like ST, I have always supported it(around here), because it was the newest and competetion for it is high, now it’s HSF2:AE, and if what Kaneda says is true that Capcom is infact or supporting HSF2:AE, since it is the newest version, well then, shit, let the competetion fly for this game…imo, this game isn’t as broken or unfair as some people put it out to be (Hello…we do play MvC2 on a high level).

I would also love to see MvC2 in the roster as well, however the competetion in Japan is not enough from what I’ve seen to be able to have it make a landing in SBO. I already know if they “had” MvC2 we’d win no matter what, wether it be single elimination or whatever, however I would rather see us win in a fighting game in which we the representatives of the USA are considered UnderDogs.

I completely AGREE with the roster of fighting games going into SBO and even though I will never be there on hand to witness or see it face to face, I fully support it, we all need to stop whining, what’s said is already done, live with it, prepare yourself, up your game up, and represent your country proudly for the games that they allow a spot for the US to enter in. Enough Said.

r3ko, nothing wrong with using CPS1 characters…shit I’d choose HFRyu, CEGuile, HFZangief over any other version. I’m probably the only one on here looking forward to seeing what the competetion and the results will look like for HSF2:AE for SBO.

I got nothing against CPS1 characters, it just baffles me why some people piss and moan about em. If you don’t like it, don’t play it.

I for one use WW dhalsim, cause i am a badman.

I really don’t understand what the big deal is. People on these boards seem to have some sense of false entitlement. Let’s make this perfectly clear. SBO DOESN’T OWE YOU SHIT. Ever. Because it’s 100% corporate sponsered, the roster of games will ultimately be in the best interests of the COMPANIES (promoting upcoming KoF98, showcasing the newest games from gaming companies even if they’re trash, etc).

Also, who the fuck is the USA to tell Japan what games they should/shouldn’t have in a 100% Japanese sponsered event? Do the Japanese whine and bitch about Evolution (until very recently, a non-sponsered event) not having Game A or Game B? And even if they do (doubtful), do the Evolution organizers change their lineup, simply because Country X is unhappy with Evo’s selection? FUCK NO.

Seriously, people need to get over themselves and stfu. All this talk of, “Well, we PWN in this game, so SBO are pussies for not running it!?!” is stupid and pointless. If you’re so god damn good, then prove it at the events that run that game. Don’t complain when a different tournament doesn’t run it.

All I know is if they have a US Qualifier for **ANY SNK game **I am going…

Doubtful. SNK games arent nearly popular enough in America. And the only SNK game on the lineup is KOF 98. There’s prolly 10 times as many people at any given qualifier in Japan than there would be for an entire US qualifier.

Most likely, as far as Japan is concerned, the US has just about as good a chance for a spot in KOF98 as they do in Melty Blood, VF5, or Arcana Heart.

if the US had a KOF98 qualifier, i would outright buy KOF98 on NEO GEO AES, 2 MAS NEO GEO sticks, and i would break my buddy out of federal prison so we could train and then i would take him to Japan…
