How is it out of place, when you consider that Melty Blood is in the same lineup (for the second year in a row I might add).
What the crap is Arcana Heart?
Read up on it Shiki lol its a new fighting game I’m certainly gonna give a good look at when it hits home and start entering tournies for etc.
KOF 98?!
haha, wow. SC3 seems interesting too…
I still gotta check out Arcana Heart though.
Two, three
It all began in '94
Kept on goin’ thru '95
This is where it plays in '96
It came to an end in '97
And now it comes and here we go
Kay Oh Eff is here again
Nothing’s gonna stop it’s nineteen-ninety EIGHT
BAM
BOOM
DA NA DA NAAAAAA DANANAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
YAY 98 thats crazy man I hope their will be qualifiers for melty.
Good call, dude. Should be even less of a problem, then. Well, I’m disappointed, but I’m sure there’ll be some great matches anyway.
kof98 is a great pick. that game is always entertaining to watch at high level, more so than kofxi at least imo. im glad everyone else agrees.
sadly enough, i bet that for some reason, we will never get a kof98 qualifier here. NYC still has mad comp for this game.
if melty blood qualifiers are held in the USA, then it’s almost 100% guaranteed that Team Sp00ky (Vic/Saiyd) are gonna get to go to Japan. lol, that’s if. Hope that your practice for this game pays off in the end guys.
That’d be fucking insane, though I’ll sure as hell fight for the spot myself.
;p
Wow.
It’s like finding out you just won the lotto, but you can’t spend the money on anything you really want. Just some stuff you kind of maybe want but it’s all second rate stuff thats nothing compared to the best.
AE is garbage. I’m sorry, I said it. And I won fucking EVO East and I got 9th at EVO World. The game is trash. It’s flakey, it’s random, it’s VERY unbalanced. And a scrub can practice with CE Bison for a week and start knocking out veteran players.
We all witnessed this bullshit at EVO World finals, and after that, the entire collective competitive SF community decided to bury this horrible game. Partly because we couldn’t put up with any more GREEN flying across the screen anymore, and partly because we knew CCC2 with arcade-perfect ST was coming out.
Now, I’ve honestly never fully understood why SBO chooses the games it does. I mean, just two years ago they had CAPCOM FIGHTING JAM and we know how bad that game is, and how quickly both America and Japan destroyed their copies of that game after the event was over. At least up to this point, their choices have made sense…followed a common theme of “including whatever is the newest as a showcase of new games.”
But fucking AE?
The game is almost 3 years old. The game is trash. The game is hard to play (all those console versions we played at EVO? They’re significantly different both speed- and priority-wise from the AE arcade board they will be using at SBO. Which means, we can all practice until we’re blue in the face, and then find out at SBO that everything we learned doesn’t work at the event).
I am so taken aback by this ass-backwards decision by SBO staff that I am seriously SERIOUSLY debating whether or not I should enter the US qualifiers when we are given the opportunity. And this is coming from someone who has wanted to go to Japan for most of his life. By the way, they had BETTER give the US at least one, if not TWO spots for teams for this event, considering the only one of them who did anything at EVO World was that fucking 7-11 CE Bison user Tokido. I still owe him an asswhupping.
I COULDNT AGREE MORE
Two main reasons…
1) Corporate sponsorship/pressure - Being that Enterbrain/Arcadia are the organisers of this event they do partly rely on support from the companies that make the games eg; Namco with Tekken or Sega-Sammy with Guilty Gear. A company like Capcom does not want to support a game released in 1994 (ST) over a game released in 2004 (AE). I suspect KOF 98 is in there due to KOFXII not being out in time for SBO (Or not out long enough) and that SNK is re-releasing KOF 98 in the same manner they did with KOF 94 Rebout. (High res sprites etc) Supporting KOF 98 makes good business sense for SNK to help them sell more console copies of the best KOF of all time.
Same applies to the upcoming console releases of VF5 and Tekken 5 DR on the PS3 which will introduce these games to a wider audience not only in Japan but globally as not everyone has a great arcade next door to them. Having these games at SBO wont hurt their console sales and at the same time will possibly help increase these same games current arcade earning capacity. Same goes with Capcom’s support for AE when you look at it from a business and not a gamer’s perspective. Furthermore despite AE being lame, it has been held alongside X-Mania with ST this year and years past I believe… so in a sense, I guess the Japanese seem willing to live with it despite it being broken.
When I was at SBO this past year there was talk of ST coming back for 2007, however even then word was that AE would take its place regardless of wether or not the Japanese community voiced their displeasure. I think the fact that more arcades now have AE instead of ST in Japan also adds to their decision regardless of wether or not ST is more popular. Anyway, the Japanese still think of X-Mania as the main event for ST regardless of SBO, not evo or anything else.
2) Community popularity/support - This is one big reason why 3rd Strike is still in after being out for 7 years. However, arcade earnings in Japan also dictate which games will be at SBO. Even for a game like 3rd Strike it still regulary cracks the top 10 earnings in Arcadia magazine in the months leading up to SBO. In the end though, the first point I made generally dictates why games are chosen for SBO rather than the second point.
Of course there are other reasons but in the end it is the decision of the Tougeki organisers. I to wish ST could replace AE, but sadly I dont think it is going to happen.
I don’t really think any country outside of Japan should be given more than 1 spot for any game unless they have gone to Japan and shown that they are worth giving it to when compared with Japanese standards of play… and I also don’t think you should use results from a console (Note, not an arcade) tournament that featured no ST/AE specialists from Japan (Daigo a big maybe) as evidence of why the US should get more than 1 spot.
Japanese players work long and hard to qualify and all you have to do is look at for example this past SBO with 3s… RX, J, Sugiyama?, Hayao, Red and several other well known and top players did not end up qualifying. On the other side both the US and Europe sent 2 teams rather than 1. If they had sent 1 each surely those players mentioned above - who are generally better than any foreign player - would have been able to qualify. We have to remember we (non-Japanese) are in the end taking their spots.
Also generally speaking having more than 1 team per country for whatever game does weaken the strength of those teams overall. In theory it is better for a foreign country to send 1 ‘great’ team rather than 2 ‘good’ teams.
Oops, i thought something was fishy. ^_^;
Anyways, No, SC2 is way better than SC3. But the arcade version is still somewhat fun, so it gets my thumbs up.
Well, there’s a decent amount of diversity for SC3:AE, and lots of cool stuff that most people prolly havent seen yet. Should be fun to watch, and thats the main point IMO.
Well, it’s not the “loli” thing. It’s that its a fun fighting game thing…granted, the characters are all loli, but i don’t think that’s the reason why it’s big. It’s big cause its friggin fun as hell to play. Everyone who hasnt played it talks as if the only reason why its attracting numbers is the loli thing, but that’s not quite true. That prolly sparks attention initially, but its the system of the fighting game that keeps people playing.
Unless Kamui is playing, the game is fun to watch. Trust me on that one.
since i love all kofs i don’t intend to start a flame right now…
btw i have to say that XI is gameplay underrated…everyone pick and scub with the unholy trio forgetting that out there is a roster of 35+ charas with really cool stuff to learn/do and be really effective during vs…
how many QS combos you saw in the last SBO?or in every vid around craptube?how many ash’s sanscoulotte or duolon’s shadow ldm customs?
the same goes for kof2k2…without BCmode usage it’s only a kof98 revisited but when those cancel are in the game everything become fucking awesome
but again just pick athena billy and choi and the match become unwatchable
is the way those games are played that is crappy not the game balancement or coolness
98 is old school kof too long away from the scene…nice pick btw
Hahahaha, HSF2, that shit has my blood pumping now, I can’t wait to see how that turns out, there needs to be a TeamUSA for that now…so sad none of the Old OG’s will come out to represent, but come on, the lineup so far looks solid, I’ll be looking forward to this turnout, and I’ll definetly have to buy these set of dvds now when they come out.
whats an arcana heart?
i always liked 95 and and 94, but I did think 98 was the closest thing to 95 and 94.
cool choices. I hope TGA in Rhode Island dose it again.

New 2d fighter.
If people questioning the choice of Arcana Heart were in Japan, you guys would understand why its a SBO game even though it just came out 5 days ago.
thx a lot heartnana for your reply, it was nice and clear and directed me to the answer i was looking for!
