Does FFA even have HSF2? The only two places that are running US qualifiers are TGA and FFA, and I know TGA does not have it.
I do think that the US should get a team for HSF2 (especially since there’s the possibility that there is going to be a MB:AC team… the US having a MB team but not a HSF2 one would just be busted).
Yeah its doubtful that the top AE players were there. Cause it seems like for most of them, AE is their only/best game. Also keep in mind, maybe SC3 CONSOLE was played at Evo, but not AE. AE is very different. About as big as the diff between T5 console and DR.
Hopefully US sends some AE players here.
I thought KO had a conflict of interest that meant he couldn’t compete in at least SBO anymore… ? Somebody explained this to me last year since he was doing announcing there, but I’ve forgotten. =\
They seemed so incredibly nice when we were over there. They were actually going to let me, Phi, and Gavin have a spot in the 3S Last Minute Qual tourney over any of the actually-qualified Japanese competitors. So I’m sure that when people start talking to them about this that they’ll make something work out. And if bonus teams want to fly out, I’d suspect that if there is a Last Minute tourney the US people would be able to enter that very easily too.
The SBO people (and the US side) were generally just monstrously courteous, and even though it was in Japan it was the easiest to attend tournament I’ve been to (with the possible exception of Evo, where you can just walk downstairs in your pyjamas when it’s time to play/watch). Phi and I were pretty stunned by how courteous and professional and fun everything was.
Choosing AE over ST makes me cry.
But I guess AE is better than nothing…
SBO has always had a strange (in a good sort of way) lineup. Aside from the “main” games, there have been numerous games that kinda make you scratch your head, but when you see how high level the competitors play the game at, it’s all good.

And as for my thoughts:
A resounding HELL YES for '98. I have always considered this to be the best in the series. For those wondering why there’s no XI, it’s probably because this game’s a lot more entertaining at high level; the top tier is pretty darned large (Kyo, Iori, Daimon, Chris, O.Yashiro, maybe Clark), and you can get away with a lower tier on your team as well.
HSF2 = lame lame lame. It’s unpopular, it’s a bad game, and I just don’t get this pick at all. The only way I could see this is if they softbanned CE Bison, ala Old Sagat.
SC3 arcade sounds really cool, as I kinda trust Rob’s opinion on this. 
Supposedly there’s not much of a scene though, but this can’t be any worse than freakin’ Fist of the North Star…
Arcana Heart isn’t doing anything for me yet, as I don’t get the whole loli thing. But apparently the game draws big numbers over there, so it should be a crowd-pleaser.
Accent Core is gonna be OFF THA HOOK. Game looks absolutely nuts, as Guilty Gear should be. This alone will make the DVDs worth the purchase, trust me.
VF5 seems pretty meh from what I’ve seen, too much Jacky/Kage. But it is the newest one and all. shrug
Preppy: I believe it is KSK who cannot compete due to announcing or some other duty. I would figure this also applies to Kuni since he helps run the thing, not sure who else.
The US will definitely have teams for 3s and HSF2, and probably DR too. Dunno about anything else - VF5’s not even out here, Melty Blood doesn’t seem to have a big enough scene, and is SC3AE even available here?
All in all, I am very pleased and expect this event to outdo last year’s. They got rid of the total stinkers (Fist of the North Star, Neo-Geo Battle Coliseum), picked a better (imo) KOF, and will have a superior version of GGXX available. HSF2 will likely be crap, and Arcana Hearts I know nothing about, but everything else is sexy.

People shouldn’t look at it as ST or HSF2, completely different games, the sooner people realise that the more fun they have with it. HSF2 is big here in the UK and over the past year we have had alot of tournies for it, all with excellent turnouts. All the ST events here have been pretty dissappointing attendance level wise in comparison.
SBO is an arcade only event, so CCC2 is totally irrevelant.
Kula is what happened.
Makes sense to go back to 98 since the revamped game is comming out.
Some new high level 98 play, something to look forward too.

Not sure what’s up with HSF2 returning…Maybe giving it a shot and see if it will do better then when ST was last on SBO. But still cool to see some form of SF2 returning which is better then none.
I’m liking the new line up but Arcana Heart seems sort of out of place.
