Yea, I know exactly what you mean about players moaning about ports. To which I must say is pathetic.
I realize that I will take some slack for saying that but I honestly feel that many players are too hung up on the differences amongst the ports. Sure, I realize that some of those differences affect certain matchups, but ultimately if you are better than your opponent, you will win regardless. I love how everyone moaned about ST last year at Evo being run on PS1. Funny how the Japanese players STILL took care of business. And we all very well know that they don’t even play ST on console. I think players have over-used the “port card.” So much so, that I would dare say to the point of a crutch. Now before someone someone attempts to hit “quote” and chatise me for apparently not knowing how games work, I’ll put it this way:
If someone told me that I could play Champion Edition online on Turbo Duo, I would only ask 3 questions:
- Is there lag?
- Does it support my hardware?
- Is there comp?
That’s it. I don’t need to know how accurate this port is compared to the arcade. As long as the answser is “yes” to those earlier 3 questions. Sure the differences would have an effect, but if I’m good (not saying I am), shouldn’t I be able to rise above those differences and be victorious regardless?
As far as SSF2 is concerned is, well…the arcade ran too slow for anyone to even give the game a chance. The Snes & Genesis versions fixed that flaw. Love the arcade version of SSF2 all you want , but the consoles versions actually gave people a reason to play this game. On a related note, SSF2 mode on AE just might be the best way to play SSF2 since you can finally play the game on
speed 3. Now, if only the Evo Staff would take notice of that…
