To those trying to learn Guile after Daigo used him

because at one part in the video you can clearly hear seth say “as a favour to me” which i didn’t even notice at first. but that confirms it. i personally think he will stick with ryu. ryu kinda sucks now? give me a break. go find devil jin’s sig. that says it all.

i totally agree. i’m happy that i got to see daigo use guile, just to say it happened. also, he went even with justin wong’s main using a character that although he’s familiar with, he was still pretty rusty at certain points.

it’s unlikely he will main guile in super. and if he does, cool.

tastiest name, tastiest post

I am a lil salty but only cause you know almost none of these new players will have read the “how to be a Family Man” instruction pamphlet or more importantly, I don’t think a single one of them will have nearly high enough of a manliness quotient to utilize guile properly…

I don’t know. Had Diago put on his shades during the match, im pretty sure we would have hit 500 viewers.

Wow, Guile got all this attention just cause Daigo played him? It would have been better if Seth told him to play Gen, but then the Gen board would be just as salty as this one.

I’m sure there are a lot of people who picked up guile because they’re little snowflakes who gravitate towards underdogs so a little salt is natural. I wouldn’t mind myself if not for the fact that I HATE mirror matches.

Diago has always played guile from time to time. Wouldn’t surprise me if he did make the switch, but I doubt it.

Honestly though, what was so good and unique about Diago’s Guile play? He was extremely solid at offensive zoning, but that is what Guile can do now. There was nothing special about the game play and I didn’t see anything that I would call a power up for Guile. What exactly were the changes anyways? Besides for the dash - sonic hurrice against Valle that Diago did like 4 times in that set, I didn’t see anything that would make Guile a threat. Once you crack that zone, Guile still looks like a fish out of water.

And it looked like c.hp got some nerfs because I saw that shit trading a lot.

i think that “vanilla 4 guile’s being salty” is starting to get a bit over played. i don’t see anyone being that bothered by it whatsoever.

i personally embrace more players picking guile. because then we all might learn even more about the character in a quicker space of time.

you really think that you can just “flowchart” guile?

a thread just for trolling -__-’’

i’m surprised this is not closed…probably mods troll too…

lol…

I see way more Ken and Zangief players online than Ryu.

Does Daigo main Ken/Gief?..

People won’t switch to Guile.

And by the way, News Flash: Guile has always been a very good character. People rated him low tier because that’s how shit works: not enough decent players in tournaments beasting with him. I still consider Yazu, Yoshiwo, Fujisawa, and even Hiko Seijuuro to be quite shitty with him. They have the tricks and combos down, but they lack the talent that certain player have for the game. Daigo played guile either because Ryu is worse, or Guile is better (and he already used him in CvS2 and knew him from ST anyway). Whatever the reason, he doesn’t know the matchups for Guile (or he would’ve air thrown Rufus’ Dive kicks away more often… it’s free… just like the wake-up hands), and he didn’t do anything special.

I, too, like the majority of Guile players, have gotten Draw games from using that shitty ultra as an anti-crossup (1 hit only, and then you’re fucked), and that backfist into the slow SB behind rufus was nothing new either. Hell, you throw a boom, a fat hitbox character jumps, they land, you do backfist, they get hit. That shit happens all the fucking time.

Oh wait, and Daigo missed a c.jabx2 > c.strong link on a game that supposedly made that link EASIER.
Daigo played like ST, and won. Justin was predictable as fuck at times, and he’s probably not used to Guile matchups. There ya go.

If people start using Guile because of Daigo (which I can guarantee ya, it won’t happen…), then it still won’t make Guile high tier, and it won’t change shit.

Shiro is the only Abel player in the top 50 japanese players, if I recall correctly. He’s right up there in the top 10. Does that make Abel a top tier character? Nop. Boxer is top tier, check out pamyu or Maeda Taison’s ranking. Yes, very low. It means shiiieeeet.

Guile’s a very good character, but not high tier. The only two things he got that are actually very very decent are:
Ultra 2
Easier link.

Guess which ones Daigo used against Rufus. None. Then again, I eat Rufus for breakfast with Guile in Vanilla.
What mattered to me were the Alex vs Daigo matches. In those, the Ultra 2 made a difference.

Honestly, Daigo will keep Ryu. He’s just screwing around to please Capcom. If he does switch, he’ll switch to Guy. Which already had a big fat pile of followers picking him up before they saw Daigo yesterday.

lol. same thing happened to fei when wong started playing him.

  1. see top player do well with otherwise thought shit character.

  2. log on to srk character forum for strats. (lol 30+ viewers)

  3. x-copy xbox live flow chart some bitches in an attempt at emulation

  4. realize character is tougher than it looked

  5. realize you suck with every character

  6. back to whoever you sucked with previously

while i agree with 95% of your post, i totally disagree with the part about those jap players being shitty players.

daigo/justin would not get to the final of evo with sf4 guile. i know it’s all hypothetically speaking. but i just don’t think they would. so i don’t think it was down to the top players just not picking guile. he wasn’t good enough.

what were guile’s worst matches in sf4? well imo, ryu, sagat, zangief, akuma and c.viper are those matches. right? well how many of them have got better? i think:

ryu: see the daigo/valle video
sagat: see ryu, plus sobat kick now goes over low tiger shot. also lost 50 hp.
zangief: gief lost 100 hp, cant jump if guile has ultra 2. guile can’t flash kick/jump if gief jumps and has ultra 2. i’d say this is now more in guile’s favour.
akuma: roundhouse loop much harder. but can now combo into ultra 2. they also gave his combos more stun (and guile has 900 stun) this match is probably worse.
c.viper: i don’t know yet.

then you could go into the matches that arse classed as more even, yet still bad for guile:

el fuerte: probably got worse
chun: probably got worse
abel: unsure
balrog: probably got slightly better
rufus: definitely got better with ultra 2 able to punish dive kick a lot easier than ultra 1. which makes me slightly bemused that daigo picked flash explosion

so all in all, the way i see it is that guile can probably compete with the top tiers a lot better than he used to, yet some of the mid tier matches got harder for him.

it’s going to be very hard to out turtle guile now. that’s why he was shit in sf4. sagat/ryu and co could out turtle him for fun AND do more damage than him when they attacked. with bazooka knee into ultra 2, they can’t do that anymore. i think overall, this makes guile quite strong in ssf4.

people are going to flock to guile anyway cause it’s apparent he’s not going to completely suck ass this time around

fuck yall i been maining guile since sf1 -_-

lol guile scrubs all over the place now.

Hello naw, I have mained him since Karate Champ, and he was my secondary in Pong.

Seriously though; welcome all new Family Men/Women. The Guile Q & A Thread is the place for your questions.

Oh Mizuki…I may have to sig this.

I liked the part where Daigo whiffed a throw to fake an SB.

yeah. i peeped that too
