The game hasn’t been out that long, but I think what’s making everyone get really impatient and mashy on wakeup is just the direction the metagame is going. The top tier is populated mostly by rushdown characters, with tremendous damage and really potent mixups; particularly ones that beat down-back. Dunno what it is with Capcom and post-command grab combos in this game, but it’s a pretty big deal.

The fact of it is, you can’t sit still for too long in AE. In Super, down-back was a safe haven. I mean really, what were Bison/Chun/Honda gonna do to you? Throw? Yeah, Chun had an overhead that would link into crouch short, but it’s easy to see and her combo damage was never terrifying even with ultra. Honda’s got a command grab, but it’s still just a straight up knockdown, not 220+ damage meterless and a whole bar for the effort. In AE, blocking for too long will get you killed. Between the command grabs, overheads, ambiguous crossups, safe pressure/mixups, combos into knockdowns, and nutty damage that define the upper tiers, it’s too dangerous to hole yourself up and wait for some breathing room. You have to move, you have to read, and sometimes, yeah, you just have to make a wild ass guess.

I’ll be honest, that’s why I really like it.

The only game I’ve ever had negative edge issues with was CvS2. You could let go of a punch button, do a qcf motion a whole second later and still have a hadouken come out. You had to learn to use negative edge or your combos were guaranteed to mess up at some point.

It may just be me but every time with Akuma I just do cr. forward into light tatsu it comes out as medium tatsu.
